I came across a great deal on this clean title 89 hatchback. Maryland Emissions have been annoying the hell outta me so I'm just going to swap my sr20 over and register the new piggy as HISTORIC. Cheaper insurance and no inspection is needed. I posted my fucked up Sportmax 962's on craigslist and got a random offer to do a trade for a clean 89 shell. I inquired more about it and talked the dude down to doing a straight up trade. The rims were a little fucked up so I defintiely think I lucked out on the deal. I rented a tow dolly from U-Haul and drove 4 hours to pick it up. I plan to basically strip the whole chasis down, give it a nice clean, some paint, and swap the motor over. It will be used as a daily driver in my collection of old raggy cars.
This is what it looked like fresh off the trailer. A few door dings but no frame rail rust, hatch rust, or dents.
It came with I would say half of a KA24e. No head but intake manifold down to block. I'm parting this stuff out so if you need something just ask.
I started cleaning the engine back up a little bit to see what I actually had and the condition of everything. The chasis has about 230xxx, but the parts actually look in working condition.
Here is a pic of the wheels I traded for the dirty ole pig.
I started to strip the interior down today to clean it up and refresh the smell. Overall it was in perfect condition minus two cracks on the dash, but I have another dash I will be using anyway.
A bunch of random stuff just left in trunk for years.
Good to go
Here is a picture of the dash. Anybody want it?
Random interior pieces.
The worst part about it was the smell. It smelled like old vasoline and must. After further inspection by taking out the carpet I found a dead mouse under the passenger seat carpet. It had been sitting in a field in VA for years so I wasn't too suprised. I ended up taking the carpet out and cleaning with dishsoup and fabreeze. It sitting in my basement wait to be put back in.
Nice. Glad to see this is finally up. In the update on your other thread it looked like you flat blacked this one. Can I ask why? It looks from these shots like the paint was fairly good and with no rust, as you said, it wouldn't make sense to flat black it in my book.
EDIT: How much for that dash? It looks like brand new compared with mine.

1989 Piggy Hatch-status: Stripped car and tearing down S14 KA for a rebuild
Decided to take the motor out today with the help of 2jzge, if he even still posts on here. He is in the middle of a 2JZGE build on his is300, but anyway it came out nicely after removing the driveshaft and transmission. I basically took the tranny off and pushed the block down through the subframe. It wasn't the safest, nor most effiecent way of doing things, but hell we are both engineers.
To the junkyard it goes. I know SOHC's don't get alot of love, but this one didn't even have an oil pan so it wasn't worth salvaging.
A/C is out and for sale if anyone wants to be cold and weigh more.
Took the front bumper, support, headlights, fenders and other random nonesense off.

Yeah my other thread is confusing considering I've gone through numerous different color body parts. I'm going to try and keep this one the same color.
If you wanted to come pick it up I would do it for pretty cheap just PM me if you really interested.
Took the subframe and front suspension components out. I plan to re-paint the subframe and sand down any rust in the engine bay. There was a little patch by the steering column hole, but that was it. Here is the stripped down chasis. Sorry for the blurry pics my camera was going nuts at the time.
I masked everything off and primer it with some Rustoleum Automotive Primer. Took about 3 full cans to cover the whole engine bay.
Next I layed down 2 nice full coats of flat black Rustoleum. Took another 3 full cans. Came out pretty good I would have to say.
your flat blacking the whole pig? or just the bay?>
Just the bay. The paint it has on it right now is pretty nice minus the flakes under the drivers side window. Other than that I've always hated red cars, but this will have to do for now.
Yeah my birthday is in a few hours and Secrets is waiting for us. I think Suckface and DOB are actually going to be in Ocean Shitty this weekend too. I hope to be able to get the motor swapped over and everything register in running condition before I leave for Europe July 23rd, but I doubt I will make that deadline.
Damn.... do work son...
What ya doing with the crashed 40?
I'm pretty much just parting together all of the best parts from either chassis. IE dash, interior panels, hatch, tails. After I put the red one completely back together I will be parting the rest out and taking the bent chassis to a junkyard unless someone wants to pick it up.
Gah, I don't really have any way to drive to MD. What kind of shell, suspension and stuffs or just the body?
I mean I basically have two of everything at this point so I'm in rush to give it away just yet. When the time comes around and I really need it gone I will basically give away what I have leftover. I'm using the front suspension (ie LCA, tension rods, etc) from the initial black car because I replaced it all less then a few months ago. After I complete putting the red one back together I need room for the s14 zenki I just got. I found it on here for free with running motor out of the car. I'm going to pick the motor up when I return from Europe and put it back together. I haven't decided if I will build it yet though or fix it up and sell it. I want more time to choose between the VQ and VH and even more time to build it with higher compression. I have a buddy that works at a shop and found me a great deal on a VQ so I might have to go v6, but we will see.
Well, this is prolly a stupid idea on my part, but when you get to ready to get rid of the "original" let me know, if we can work out a good deal I may just make a trip to MD. I might have my buddy tag along. Ya think a single slammer 240 can tow a car dolly and another 240? Lmao
I was going to post that picture, but I didn't want to clutter up the build thread. I don't want people thinking that I am the haggard one that welds two cars together and tows them. Edit that shiz to a link not a full picture. I could tow it with my expedition, but I would need gas money and of course no other offers.
Oh and I was puking as well when I returned home. I tried to eat cream of crab soup and failed.
^yea, that distance, would be hella expensive, in the expedition. I am more concerned about the extra weight of a car dolly, plus anything that might be left of the shell.
Sorry for the thread jacking, that was more of a thought that got typed out. Rotfl
I liked the overall style of the wheels, but fitment and weight was horrible. They are probably one of the more common fan boy wheels on the 240 market these days. I had gotten them as a gift so I really didn't mind about how they fit. I've always liked to ride on smaller wheels because of my honda days in the past so the 18's felt huge for me. Not to mention that they weighed heavier then my car. Haha.
Sorry I haven't been updating recently. I just returned home from Europe on the 15th of August and I'm pretty much broke as of right now so I've been working everyday to save some money up. I'll start progress again shortly. I'm in the middle of fixing my powerwasher so I can clean and paint my front crossmember and get ready to swap the motor.
Yeah sorry guys. After returning home from Europe I was left completely broke with barely enough money to live for the past few months. I've just been working and saving up for my move in deadline at the begining of November. I hope to have the car running before I move out. I went out the other day and did a few minor things when I had the time. I relocated the wiring from tire death in both fenderwells. Sorry for the crappy blackberry pics, but my camera was dead.
I also ran the new wire for the battery relocation.
After getting the wiring out of harms way I put the fenders back on. While I had the brake master cylinder, slave master cylinder, and brake booster I decided to clean them up a bit too. The brake booster had a little bit of rust from fluid over flow. I sanded all the parts down and primered them with some high heat auto primer. Afterwards I hit them with a flat black high heat engine enamel. They turned out looking pretty nicely after being completed. I also put all the engine bay trim and windshield wiper assembly back in.
I also put the headlight assemblies back onto the chasis. I love perfect fitment!
The passenger side fender fits perfectly, but because of the wire reloaction the driver's side is a little offset. I decided to make new mounting bolts for the bottom two points. The pic is from before I tightened the bottom ones down to reposition the fender.
A giant computer had been fed all the knowledge known to human kind, and then asked the question: Is there a God?
The lights flashed, and the circuits hummed, and then came the answer: "THERE IS NOW!".
Yeah I'm pretty sure I still have it sitting under my back deck. I will look for it this weekend and get back to you. If you were local I would just give it to you.
