Ok guys clear this up for me. When you are saying "get the full front clip" that's meaning everything for the motor and tranny? Where I live people say the front clip as in the body panels from the firewall forward, or is this what you are meaning by front clip? I've been lurking this site for a while and just registered a couple days ago, cuz i finally had to ask. This is refering to an SR20DET REDTOP swap into a 240sx coupe. I've read you just have to swap it out as if it was the stock motor, and I've read that you have to change body panels and everything to get it to fit correctly. I'm just tired of looking for a def. answer and this seems to be the place to ask it.
front clip meaning, front half of the car (firewall up to the bumper). most of the times the dash is there, speedo, engine, tranny, and body panels, and everything else thats in the engine bay.
So an SR20DET swap won't just drop in under the stock body panels? Or the intercooler/piping won't fit up front? Or people just prefer to swap the whole front end because of the intercooler/piping?
They say get the full front clip because that way you shouldn't be missing ANYTHING you need from the engine. SR will fit in the 240 I don't see how you would think the fenders would need to be changed. You need to modify the battery tray to get the inter cooler piping to fit.
Oh well I've read both ways on this forum...lol i've that's all i've been doing for the past few months is lurking and reading. That's why I finally posted because it was driving me nuts reading both ways.
Edit: I was mainly talking about the rad. support, bumper for the intercooler and piping to fit correctly without swaping body parts.

^thats the reason people say get the whole front clip, so your not missing anything for the swap.

dont need the radiator support or the bumper for the intercooler piping you are going to have to cut holes anyways for the piping. body parts have nothing to do with where your piping goes.
hi, i have a 98 240sx le, and i was woundering what kind of engine would be the best to put in without fooling around with alot of rewireing and everthing.
the people at teh garage said the crankshaft is gone and the pistons are fried and the valves are gone , so i wanst to get another motor , and i was thinkin s14 but i dont want to fool with alot. so i was woundering what woudl be teh best to put in my car
honestly if you dont want to mess with a lot of wiring. get another KA. or if you want get an SR or RB and have somebody do the wiring (it will cost) but it can be done. honestly swapping in the SR was pretty easy. i didnt do any of the wiring. i bought a pre-wired harness of somebody and it works fine. i just have some idling issues right now. but if you go KA there is a lot of aftermarket support and they can be pretty stout.
my son and I are new to the 240sx scene and he has swapped a SR20 from the ka24e into his 1991 240sx. We have a wiring harness plug near the throttle bottle with 8 wires in it that we do not know where it goes for this engine. Can anyone help us out. We have been able to start but it seems these wires are needed.
i just recently bought a 89 240sx with a ka24de but its missing a canister and some hoses plugging into the engine (says the smog guy) would a 89 canister fit a 93 engine? the canister is next to the filterbox which i dont have)

I have a 93 240sx se auto that i just bought for 900$ it has like 170,000. I thought it would be a awesome project to spend on and race. I was wondering if someone can make me a complete list of all the parts for a sr20det swap. If you do that i will be really...really...REALLY! happy! i wana get the swap done in a couple of days i dont wana miss any parts or anything...my limit is 5000$ in parts i already ordered a engine 5speed tranny redtop.
I'm not sure where to put this question so here it is. I am looking for a replacement flywheel for an AUTOMATIC CA18DET engine swap in a 1990 240sx. Please don't bust my chops about the automatic thing. My kid learned to drive on that car and trust me. A teenage girl with an auto tranny is scary enough without having to add shifting to the mix. lol Anyway, I can't seem to find one anywhere. I heard that the one that comes on the CA18DE on the 1988 Pulsar NX SE is smaller. Are there any other flywheels I can buy in the US that I don't have to modify (like the SR20DET one)? Any suggestions are appreciated. My engine is already out and taken apart so I need this thing like yesterday.
i just bought sr20DET s14 engine with tranny which is going into a 95 240 sx
it came with all of this
-engine
-5speed tranny
-ecu
-harness
-turbo
-cam angel sensor
-alternator
-starter
-a/c compressor
-power steering pump
-intake manifold
-exhaust manifold
-throttle body
-clutch
-fly wheel
-pressure plate
CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT OTHER PARTS OR WIRES I NEED TO SWAP THIS IN AND WITH DETAIL ON WHAT WIRES AND PARTS I NEED OR IF THERES A PLACE WHERE I CAN GET A KIT TO COMPLETELY SWAP THIS IN?
just took out the engine rebuilt another ka and dropped it in in like 4 days..not bad for a noob like myself and another guy,but sure as hell am saving up for the sr swap blacktop fo shizzo! thanks this thread was very helpful!
Something else worth mentioning: the S-13 engine (both redtop and blacktop) come with a high port head. This is more effiecent than the low port one s14 and s15, so if you plan on changing the turbo anyway, the s13 is your best bet, because it can flow the most air (it was changed for s14 and s15 to meet emmissions standards, but if you're running an SR, chances are you aren't worried about emmissions) If you just want to max out the stock turbo, S15 blacktop is your best bet...
I learned that from "Nissan Sport Compact" Yes, its a book about tuning front-wheel drive cars, but it has a lot of info useful for SR tuners.
