Well, if you hate American cars get rid of the Vega. Duh! If you are really dead-set on keeping that ride you could probably swap any I4 or V8 that Nissan has produced into it. I've heard of a lot of guys swapping in SBCs into Vegas and a few BBCs. If I were you I'd post up some pics of the engine bay and let us look things over.

Hey im new here and im interesting in knowing if swapping an 2jzgte motor in an 95 or 98 s14 or even an s15 silvia, would be an ideal swap or an rb26 would be better, and which of both would be the cheapest with good results also????

Question new lol

Ok well here it is i am 16 living in auburn washington. Got 2 more years of high school plan on buying some sort of 240sx hatchback by the end of summer. should have bout 3,000 ruf est. Want to know ware the best plase would be to get it at? I have no place to work on it really. Wanna do most the work myself as much as i can. If i have to i will take it to a shop but that is last thing if i can not go anywere els i will take it there. I plan on saving for a RB20DET or a SR20DET not sure what one yet. Anyone know what engine would be beter over all? Not just speed but also getting part for it stuff like that to. But iv ben looking around on every thing there is trying to find out what i wanna do. For now tell i get the money keep the stock engine in. But i wanna put a few things on just to get the hp up a lil for small racing stuff like that so what stuff should i do to it?

For sure im going to do to the car is:

1. Flush every oil out and put new oil in.
2. Take out the back set .
3. Role cage.
4. Racing tires/brakes.
5. Racing sets.
6. Someone said something about the trunk? if ther is i might like to do it too.
7. Timing in the engine how ever you do that.(NOT SUR HOW)
8. Body kit that is real and not one that will mess the car up. im not a fag punk kid just to let you konw.
9. Was thinking about some kind of dash too light waight.

ya i know this will take alot of time and $ but i got nuthing but time dont do anything in any of my classes but auto shop that is it lol. and as for the money like i said end of summer i should have bout 3,000 for a summer job then i wanna find one for when school is going to work after school too. but please any help with all of this will be grate. i am 100% into geting this car and doing everything to it. thanks,
Logan

Supra swap???

do u think it would be possible to fit a toyota supra engine inside a 240? I know it seems ridiculous but a heard of it being done a 95 so i was wondering if it would work in a 91. Any info/ suggestion would be awesome.

CA laws????

Does anyone know what happens if your caught with a SR red top in cali? I really really want one but im afraid of what might happen, Some say they smash it, some say they give you a ticket and you must do all of this shit just to remove it, I have a KA in it now stock 92 ok and its going bad but im just gonna drop the red top in for getting to work and back and really as my driving car. Some of you might be saying well if your just gonna use it as a driving car then why not get a new or rebuild the one i have, well i want some hp and to have some fun in it, and well SR has alot more parts out here and then so i pretty much want a SR red top and use it for transportation purposes with alittle fun here and there, and i know if a reg cop pulls me over then he might not know anything about it, but if its one of those racing cops then i might be fucked, so does anyone know what happens if your pulled over with a SR20DET Red top? Please help, i kinda want one no matter what but i would like to know the facts.

i hear that your car will get taken from you and impounded and/or smashed. is it realy worth the risk anyways? you can get the same power with about the same, some say less money, just by rebuilding and turboing your ka. i hear that most cops can recognise sr20's. if you get caught with a turbo'd ka your going to get in shit too but at least you can rock a bottom mount manifold to hide the turbo and try to hide the piping a bit. your way less likely to get caught with a ka-t then a sr20

You'll get a Ref Ticket. The only way cars can be legal-ish-ly crushed in Cali are if you have stolen parts.

Yeah, it is just a ref ticket, unless you have stolen parts.

Is it worth it? That's a question you are going to have to ask yourself.

I mean i want to do it..but would you and or others do it. I have exhaust that my friend says a cop would pull me over for and well i have had cops behind me for miles and miles down the road and nothing. i have had the car for 5 months and well not one ticket for the exhaust i have. I think it wouldnt hurt to have the engine. I think if i get a ticket it would be for not using my blinker. And maybe speeding. So you tell me, Would it be worth it for you to have?

research bud. there is a huuuge difference between those 2 engines. your totally looking at opposite ends of the engine swap spectrum.

on one end your looking at a cheap, easy, cost effective, turbo'd decent hp but not much torque(compared to ls1) engine (sr) then on the other end your looking at a expensive, hard to swap, high torque engine, and naturally aspirated.

do you know the costs/work involved with a ls1 swap? im not meaning to shut you down or anything i just think you need to research alot more

KA-T- Cheap at first, expensive later if it has high miles. A rebuild would be wise to run with piece of mind. Not as common, becoming more common. Pretty good aftermarket support, nowhere close to the SR.

SR- More affordable, but very, very common and mundane. Red Top is the cheapest, Black Tops are more advanced in technology and have more power, S15 being the "Mack Daddy" of the SRs but is very, very unreasonable as far as cost. Most choose the "RT" based on the fact that the money you save can go back into the upgrading. Great aftermarket support.

CA- Cheap for the engine, but very limited aftermarket support compared to the SR and KA. Swap is relatively easy from what I've researched. Older engine is where the downside comes in. Not as common as the SR, but I'd say more than the KA-T at this point. Time will change this I'm sure.

RB- Expensive, but different. One of the highest cool factors because of size (6cyl), and exhaust note. RB20 is a lot easier swap that RB25 from what I've researched. RB25 and 26 require quite a bit of fab. Expensive but very, very solid aftermarket support.

VG/Q- Don't now much about, but I believe it is expensive. VERY different compared to others, more rare the RB. Not as a common.

Any V8 I'm not sure on. Pretty popular though. Going to get the most power here for obvious reasons. VH sounds very, very nice if you want to be different. Don't know much about it though. Always remember, "There is no replacement for displacement."

I personally have reluctantly choose to pursue the SR for my personal feelings. Going to have one put in by a local shop. Estimated cost is between $4000 and $5000 turn key. Gave all of them a good look with exception of the V8s, serious consideration. Research them all and find out for yourself. It's harder than you think to pick. And someone telling you which one to do is not what you want.

I'm basing expensive on if you have a shop put it in and cost of aftermarket parts cost. DIYers make off a lot better as far as swap cost are concerned. And deal finders will save a few dollars on aftermarket parts.

Do your own RESEARCH, it will increase your 240 IQ and instill pride in you and your ride.

RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH, RESEARCH...........You get the clue right?

My .

I believe you can. Rather difficult from what I've read. Might want to post in the RB section and see what they say, or even use the search feature.
