Red 240Sx Build

I know it may be a bit premature to start a build thread. However, I have already started ordering parts so as it sits right now I feel like it has already begun. When I do a build I go the more expensive route. I start replacing factory pieces that are broken and get the car running properly. After I get the car functional I begin the mods .

So here is a picture of the car. It's a bit rough but I think she has great potential.

Interior

Some of the damage I have spotted so far.

Notice how black the CMC fluid is. Ewwww

and finally the engine bay.

I ordered the following parts
  • Primary O2
  • Turn signal switch
  • SunRoof gasket
  • CMC
  • JDM mirrors
  • Door panels from ebay
  • e-brake sensor
  • Crank angel sensor

Once I get these new parts on and installed. I will clear all codes and take it out for another test drive. From this point I know I will have the following items to fix.
  • Front brakes
  • Struts / Springs

I have a clicking in the dash I am trying to figure out what it is. If anyone is in the VA area I can sms you the file I have from my iPhone. I recorded it. Very weird. None of my other 240's did this.

I removed this post. I found a place to host my images for the build process.

I called CarQuest today because waiting until Oct 16th seemed so unreasonable for an O2 sensor. I will have that today at 12pm. I am also thinking about spending my suspension money on my trans instead. Long story short I found a reasonable price tranny for my swap. So I want to snatch it up before it poofs. I am still looking for some place to host images other than photobucket.

Also all parts from Japan have been shipped. These include the following:
Door panels
Turn signal switch
Windshield wiper switch
JDM mirrors (folding)

Welcome to the forum

What cam angle sensor? Are you talking about the crank position sensor?
Our cars run off of a distributor and its probably much easier to just replace a distributor cap, wires and spark plugs than to mess with that. Just finish all the basic maintenance outlined in one of the stickied threads.

what is the extent of your mechanical abilities? What is wrong with the transmission? Whats wrong with the ebrake sensor? I've never heard of anyone replacing that and if that sensor is more than $50 I wouldnt even waste time on it.

-Just do the spark plugs wires and distributor cap
- if you are doing the clutch master you might as well get a stainless steel clutch line and a new slave and not need to mess with that again
-Good luck and God bless with the sunroof gasket. I had them cut out my sunroof and weld in sheet metal

An S14 transmission should go for around 150-250. I sold mine for $250 and I had everything on it still.
Decent coilover suspension should run you about 1000-1200
Stance, BC racing, Part shop max (what I have) are okay. Dont buy any of the cheap Tein suspension, Isis or Megan racing shit
Whatever coils you do get, dont slam your car to the ground

Definitely save up for suspension ASAP because driving a stick shift on blown struts is terrible. Driving a slammed ass 240 that you have to worry about even the smallest road bumps is horrifying as well

I'm doing a swap. I never stated which one. I'm not replacing the factory Nissan tranny.

There were two codes that popped when scanned the ECU.
1. Crank angle position sensor (on the trans)
2. O2 bank A.

This will be my third swapped 240 and I have decided to do something a bit different this time. I want to repair some of the mechanical defects before I get into the actual swap. For example:
1. Blown struts
2. Clanging while driving
3. Clicking in the dash
4. Turn signal is broken
5. CMC is shot
6. Front disks are warped
7. Determine which rear end was installed
8. Discover source of vibration
9. Repair CEL's

I must apologize. I got cam stuck in my head. It's Crank angle position sensor.

**Update**
So I was out and about today and I like I said earlier I cancelled my order via advance Auto parts and went to car Quest. When I came home I took a deeper look at the car after I replaced the O2 sensor. Here is what I saw.

I found this vacuum line tapped (I literally mean tapped) to a small piece of dry rotted vacuum line.

I also found this dry rotted vacuum line that looks like coolant line and collapsed.

Finally, I also found this. I was a bit bummed about finding this.

So off to CarQuest I go again. I was going to take her out for a test drive when I realized she had only 1 Quart of oil left in her. Not good. So the following items where done today:
  • Oil and Oil filter changed
  • Spark plugs
  • Primary O2 sensor
  • 2 vacuum lines
Here is what the first vacuum line looked like when I was done.

Here is the upper vacuum line

When I was done with all that I swapped on half a set of rims and tires I had laying around. Here you can see the fronts

I cleared the codes and took her out for a spin. I was able to replicate the codes only drive about 3 miles the first time. So I took off down 17 and then came back. I was not able to replicate the code this time. Also I found I had a bit more more power. Something I was really surprised the vibration in the car has been really reduced. so I'm not sure if it was the blocked vacuum source or the rims or a combination of all the above.

My next tasks to tackle will be removing the tint from the back window. Also pulling the head unit. I can't seem to figure out how to change channels in the one that is in it now. I have a spare POS laying around I can use for now.

I can't put the rear tires on until I replace the rear struts. Sadly they are completely blown. I also noticed a clunking when shifting. I can't tell if it's pilot bearing or something else. I think I have a loose heat shield that is rattling.

I am very excited. Even though my struts are blown I had a nice fun little drive this evening. I really enjoyed it. I definitely feel I made the right choice returning to my Nissan roots.

I almost forgot. My CMC should be in tomorrow. I am not sure when my braided break lines will show up.

Red 240Sx Build

Crazy thing about spending money in a whirl wind type fashion is when you stop to do the accounting. You realize that you spent some money and that you have a bunch of parts coming. LoL, talk about pressure.

I know these are the unexciting mods / repairs but I have a bunch of stuff coming in shortly. Here is what I have:
  • Turn signal
  • Wiper switch
  • Door panels
  • CMC
  • JDM folding mirrors /w switch
  • Break light switch
  • Agency brake line upgrades
I think I ordered the wrong part. I needed the e-brake switch so the parking brake light shuts off. Sigh.

Tonight I am going to tackle the CMC and pealing the tint off the back window and removing the glue off the glass.

**Update**
So tonight my focus was on replacing the CMC and pealing the tint out of the back window. However, things took a turn for the worse shortly after starting the CMC. Here is the first thing I ran into.

So I went below to drain the system and found this. I was not overly happy with this turn of events.

Remember how I have mentioned I have worked on 240's before? Well as I recalled I had to do the CMC in my 1993 240. I purchased a slave cylinder. I wonder if I still have it???

But are they compatible??

The 240 gods were smiling on me tonight. My last 240 was back in 2004. So to still have that laying around is really lucky for me.

Now it's time to take this..

and

I think tonight I will take the night off. I still need to adjust the clutch so that it engages / disengages in the middle of the peddle like I like it. Thursday I will start pealing out the Purple tint and removing the glue. The glue makes seeing out the rear window nearly impossible.

I know over the next couple of day I will start receiving parts from all over the world. You have to love ebay for connecting people.

Actually, there are folks out there that put down a lot more money than me. I had 600.00 bucks left over when purchasing the car. I tossed that into my primary account and started purchasing parts to fix things that were broken. I save a lot of money by installing my own stuff, do my own body work, welding, and assembly. Things like alignments I go to shops for and I use the same machine shop for my engine builds for hot tanking, planing, balancing and so on.

Once that money is gone it's back to saving and spending for me. With all the parts I got off ebay and the parts I purchased locally I might have 700.00 bucks in the car so far. Most expensive piece was the door panels.

All that being said. That is not the most expensive pieces to come.
  • Transmission 1,200.00
  • ECU 1,500.00
  • Rods 800.00
  • Pistons 800.00
  • rebuild kit 400.00
  • Coilovers 1,800.00
Non of this includes paint, prep work, motor assembly or anything else. It's a project car. So I have time to work on it and save up money.

Yea, I don't really do stance style drops. The roads in my area are not very accommodating for it either.I like some clearance between the bumper and the road so I don't have to worry about bottoming out or ripping body pieces off.

I am not really driving the 240 yet on a daily basis yet. I take it out every so often to test to see what all is still broken. Right now I have am just trying to get it to a point where it's stable enough I might be able to take it to a meet or something. Hang out.

As far as the struts go. I'm looking at the BC struts RE's I think. They are about 1800.00. We have summit point in West Va and I want to go up there and play at bit. So I am going to get some Nicer struts. I've been practicing on and off driving for the last 2 years. I am not ready yet for an event but definitely want to find a place where I can put in some practice time.

The new switches are in. I am really happy about that. I had three boxes show up yesterday but I forgot to put the signature card in the mail box. So I will not be getting the third box today.

As it turns out the front head lights were not activating when the switch was turned on. I realized last night when I put in the new switch. I was wow it's so bright in here now. So it's a good thing I pulled the switch. I should have one more box coming today and on Friday. Tonight I would like to peal that tint out of the window.

I am going full stand alone this time. So most likely AEM V2 because the 2JZ gets cranky when the weather changes. Now that I have said 2JZ you should be able to understand the other prices

So I was finally able to pick up the box at the post office that required a signature. I got these.

I also started working on the tint. Anyone have any better ideas than a razor blade and lots of time???

I picked up this paint for the mirrors. This is a 2015 Nissan paint. Holy crap was it expensive. Sigh, nothing I like is ever cheap. Somebody teach me to have lower standards...Lmao.

Ok, I am seeking some advice. I need to seperate the cover of the mirror. My first instint is to cut the wires and solder them back together. But they had to have a way of assembling the damn thing so I am opening up for thoughts.
