Well I don't know about anyone else, but my carpet is covered with stains and is ugly gray. So I decided to dye it flat black since I had it out of the car anyway. So here's a nice DIY for dying your carpet. Your Welcome
1) Remove Carpet - Really a no brainer. Yes you have to cut the front part that goes under the dash if you don't plan on taking the whole dash out. There is a line indented into the carpet so it not hard to cut with a knife at all.
2) Cleaning the Carpet - You can clean the carpet many ways, but just make sure that its as clean as it can be before you start dying. I used Woolite and scrubbed it in with a brush, then I power washed it out.
3) Weapon of Choice - I used Duplicolor Vinyl&Fabric Dye 2 cans for $12
This stuff works awesome, didn't try anything else so I got no clue what else is good.
4) Before Pics - EEEWWW THATS UGLY!!!
5) Process / After Pics - Its basically just like spraying paint. Light even coats and stop when reach your desired tint. Here are the pics!!!
In car pics coming soon!!!!
And their you have it..pretty much a brand new carpet for $12. Next im looking into dying the headliner. Hope that goes as well as the carpet did.
Comments/Questions Welcome
I redye carpets everyday. I own a company the does reconditioning of auto interiors. Your spray can job looks pretty good. But we use custom dye designed special for carpet and we color match each color to the carpet. Most of the time spray can jobs look like shit and the carpets dry hard. Just a warning dont spray your headliner. If you have any questions regarding any thing with redying or any interior work feel free to ask.
^^^
then what can be used to redye the headliner if not the spray dye?
also...how much does something like that cost to have it done professionaly. I own a turbo jetta right now and have a two-tone beige/black interior. I'm looking to redo the beige stuff black. The problem is that they don't have premolded carpet for my car yet and custom job is too expensive ( i think...depending on how much you charge), new seats are EXTREMELY expensive...like about $3k for the front and back.
-Yea im gonna take the in car pic tomorrow, ill do a before and after.
-Yea KAM240 your right it is a little stiffer than stock but its a carpet, its only getting stepped on so I dont care.
-Why couldn't I do the headliner? I'd like to know before I do it.
-I did my trunk carpet yesterday as well and it came out great too!!!!> pics will come on tomorrows post.
You can spray the headliner but make sure you hold the can 12" or more away from the liner. It is totally different then carpet b/c the headliner is different fiber and is cardboard backed. With the headliner you may get dark spots b/c the paint will soak in different in spots. The company I own is franchised and there is one or more in every state and every major city you can find us at www.autoqual.com we dont charge all that much for a redye of carpet like 25-40 dollars.
just called my local autoqual.... pretty decent guy on the phone.. gonna come to my job and dye my carpet black. 25 bucks he says.. ill let u know how much and how it turns out.
well. thats it, from my first post untill right now. They came from stratford to here at my job, dyed my carpets and left, 25 bucks, gave them a tip. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!! really good customer service. number is on their website (dont wnana plug them too much hehe). All together a great transation. they did two coats of dye, cleaned all my interior pieces, and sprayed a "new car scent". try them out... for 25 bucks, you cant go wrong...
not bad at all, if my carpet did not have rips and holes in it I would just do that. I found that you can a full precut carpet for the 240 for 110 bucks! to me thats not bad at all

thats awesome news, I will have them come do my headliner!
headliner may come out slightly botchy... i would take it out of the car to facillitate the spraying. also, your gonna wanna cure it for likein hour in your house... it wa humid today, and kinda cold here in ct, and it took like 2 hours to fully dry...i idled my car with the hood open and the heat on for 10 mintues, and it went from really wet, to almost dry.. but didnt fully dry for like 2 hours... also, they painted the heal padding on the carpet...they used a adheision promotor, but it didnt work out to well, was still tacky after like 4 hours.. so i just windexed it off and sprayed it with plastic paint and then some cc. providing even they used regular spray paint. ( which they didnt, becaues it doesnt stick to metal or plasstic.) i would still pay them to come do it. y? well its only 25 bucks, and its worth not spending the time going to get paint.. paying 12 bucks for paint, doing it for 2 hours... and still possibly not having all the tools...
