Besides, on a CA18 and KAE why not just emulate ? Not to mention that on a KAE, there is no consult, which is a no no for tuning, so you need to switch to a U12 anyways to get it. CA also does not have consult... not sure on a good swap for it.
You can just emulate, but you dont get maptracing which is essential. Moates emulators do the hardware maptracing which we support inside the NIStune software, not too sure about other packages like tunerpro with that yet. but as you mention, you still dont get your consult feedback which can be great for data logging and display

Whilst these ECUs dont have consult natively with the Type 1 board we add it in. You get the guages and DTC codes report / clear. Basically I had to figure out where all the consult RAM values were for each ECU and create a new table and report it out. This allows for maptracing and logging on these older ECUs which works fantastic in cars like my R31 skyline

hey, who is this? Are you one of the designers of nistune? It would be great if we had one of the people that work for the company on here.

Im very willing to help you so dont get me wrong, but if you dont understand something or know about tuning and chips ect, just say it. If we think you know about emmulators and burners ect were going to speak a language to you that you dont understand so instead of trying to get on our level, allow us to get on yours.

I know I sound like an errogant prick right now but Im just tired and being blunt.

Let me just say that the only pre tuned tune I would trust would be the stock one. Just alter it, dont mess with someone elses honestly. If you need the stock bin file for your ecu I can send that to ya

Oh, I am in love with this thread. I just was playing with my ecu for my turbo setup and realized that it has a stock chip and one for the boost application. So I will prolly be slowly picking up some of this stuff so I can play with my tunes a little.

Im getting frustrated. Nobody supports my ecu! I have a late model s14 sr20. My ecu code is NA. The only company that tunes it is Jim Wolf and their turn around time is almost a month. I dont want to go with a Power FC but looks like I might have to if I cant find another solution.

nistune can support s14 sr ecus but im not positive on your model one. If not it would be easy to get one that they do support.

Ok, a couple of questions, because I'm new to tuning ECUs and don't want to pay $100 for a reflash.

My ECU has already been converted for an EPROM. I had a shop install the daughterboard on a brand new SR20DET redtop ECU. They then tuned the car (but not too well, because it runs ass rich). I do NOT own a wideband O2 yet, but I'm going to be buying one before I get to any tuning. I'm kind of unsure what components are hardware and which are software. I downloaded Tuner Pro and will build the ConsultCable. Do I still need the chip burner if my ECU has been converted already? And I will still need the data logging software? Thanks for the support everyone!

*EDIT* When I plug in my laptop and fire up one of these programs, do they delete the current tune from my ECU? The ECU we use for our SAE car at school does that. Since I'm learning, I'd rather not have that happen the first time out...

Your gong to need the cousult cable and emmulators. You dont necessarly need the chip burner if you can find someon (electronics repair shop) that can burn you a chip. If not after you get the tune your happy with you could e-mail my shop the bin file and we could burn it on a chip for you and mail it out for pretty cheap.
When you plug into the consult cable in your car you wont loose your bin file, You actually need to download it though, then your going to have to remove the chips and plug in the emmulators. Your going to want to emmulate the bin file that you pulled from the consult cable and make your changes to that file untill your happy with it. Then save it, then get it put on chips.

I would like to try to interest you in nistune. It is much easier of a program to use because it will do all the things you need and its just 1 program. If you dont have your emmulators yet or your chip burner it would probably be cheaper to get nistune and a nistune board and then you can do all your tuning throught the consult cable and not have to worry about emmulators and chips ect. When your happy hit the burn button and it saves it permenatially to the ecu and hit save to save the file to your computer.

does anyone know what unit live edit and tuner pro are using for boost?

For an SR20DET basemap in tuner pro, load varies from 10 to 104. The only indication I've seen of units is TP/MS. Any ideas?

Live edit's load varies from -.89 to .62, no unit specified. Seems to be KG/CM2?

Any help is appreciated!

The ECU has no concept of 'Boost' in the conventional sense, just the TP, which is load.

So, all timing and fuel go off of RPM vs. TP maps. Load (TP) can be kind of thought of as boost, as you increase boost, you will also increase load on the engine. The exact formula for TP calculation is unknown though (atleast for the KADE/SR), but, you really do not need it. TP is a scale that is generally a smaller INT value, IE between 0 and 128 or so. You can adjust the scale itself to allow for higher upper boost (ie max it out at 150 instead of 120), but this also lowers resolution as the scale's scope is increased... Hope that helps...

yep, and what I like to do is is extend the ends of the maps like you said, and I try to have the lower resolution down lower pre boost where it dont matter as much.

Very nice, thanks a lot for the help guys. That's what I thought the TP was.

I have another question, is there any worry about fuel cut? I'd assume it would cut fuel at the end of the TP, maybe?

It dont cut fuel there, It just carrys on with the map if you reach the maps limits in either tp or rpm. I suggest scaling your maps so you have some resolution in that area

but its better to just scale the maps so you dont have to carry out the max value

A quick way to make a linear LOAD/TP scale is go do a log and record your max TP and divide it by 16, generally this will put your boost in the middle of the MAP.

Ofcourse you can play with it and make yoruself have more resolution for the boosted area if you like.

Heres a better example however im using a MAP sensor when I log so im able to know exactly where ZERO vacumm/boost are.
