Clutch or Tranny? My car won't go into gear.. Help Please

I have never had a clutch go bad on me before so I'm not exactly sure if it's the clutch or the tranny.

My problem is when I push the clutch down and try and put it into gear it just won't. I have to play w/ the clutch and and try to fiddle so it will go into gear. This first happend to me on the highway then on the street. It's like something is blocking me from going into gear. The clutch pedal feels fine.I have to get lucky for it to go into gear. I was lucky to make it home today. As of now the car is not driveable.

the clutch may not be disengaging when going into gear which causes hard shifting. The cluster or main shaft gear dog teeth could aslo be worn down which could also cause hard shifting. I guess the first thing u need to do is find out if the clutch is disengaging. If it is, then you're probably having a tranny prob. It would be easiest to just put in a different tranny in that case b/c taking one apart is somewhat of a PITA.

If it goes into gear fine when the car is off then its not the tranny.

I have had a few clutches go out, and when it happens you cant get the car into gear (without rev-matching and grinding) because the clutch may not be disenguaging fully.

If the same gears have trouble getting into when the car is off then the tranny is messed up.

Could also be caused by a throwout bearing failure. Especially since you said you could fiddle with the clutch and get it in gear. Either way you'll be taking the tranny off to fix it.

possiblty. lol. I know that's not the answer you're looking for but I've noticed that there are many things that can go wrong in a car and it's hard to just say, "yeah, that's it"

I hear ya dude.
Ok I just took the car out and there is no doubt that I have to push the clutch in then let off the clutch a bit to be able to get it into gear. Also, there is noise still coming from the shifter.

Ok, playing with it some more today I noticed that if I press the clutch all the way down the car wants to stall, but if I let off the clutch a bit it feels better. Like i said earlier I have to let off the clutch a at least half way to get it to go into gear.

I had the same issue with my car. Engine running, clutch depressed the trans would no go into any gear. Engine off, trans goes into gear. If i started the engine the clutch would engage but i couldnt get it our of gear.

When i took the transmission out, i found that one of the springs on the cluch disc came loose and was in constant contact with the pressure plate. (would not let me disengage it)

End result - replaced with ACT clutch kit.
