Throwout bearing noise

How bad is it to continue driving a car with a squeaky throw out bearing? Mine squeaks...and if I just touch the pedal a little bit it goes away.

Will the bearing damage other parts as well while its wearing out?

Can it make the noise and not break, or do I have a limited time to replace it before the shit hits the fan?

thanks!

damn, another prob? that sucks. How did u daignose it as a TOB prob? Does it make a sound when u depress the clutch pedal? if so, then it's the TOB bearing. U said when u "touch the pedal" It goes away but that doesn't makes sense if it was a TOB. just my .02

the throwout bearing should only make a noise when your pedal is pushed in if it is bad. i have no idea why your tranny would make a noise only when your pedal is out...does it make noise when you are in neutral?

yeah, what gets me is that he's saying that it's a "squeaking" noise. lol idk what it could be. It's so hard to diagnose a prob over the net.

My TO sometimes makes a buzzing/rattling/whirring noise as I let the clutch out in 1st and 2nd...it's been doing it for over a year now, no harm no foul. Just an annoying noise. I'll be damned if I'm gonna rip out my tranny just to replace a $20 bearing, I'll get it when I do a rebuild...syncros are going anyway...

Ah, computer dating. It's like pimping but you rarely have to use the phrase "upside your head".

My t/o bearing does the same thing as pball. Its not even a week old and I greased that bitch up real nice. Yesterday, it seems like it got stuck on the pressure plate and I heard it whining like a 14 year old girl.

How do you know when your sychros are going? Sometimes when I drive and I shift gears in second, third, or fourth, I can hear almost a popping/ratteling type sound. It sounds like loose metal in the tranny, almost like a snare. Yesterday, I wound out some gears and the ratteling type sound lasted for a couple minutes, then went away. I also dont have a rubber boot, so I can hear the gears downshift and every sound the engine makes.

syncros or "syncronizers" help the transmission mesh the gears on the front and rear shafts together smoothly. when they go you get grinding when you shift because the syncro fails to sync the two gears.

i'm half tempted to make a video "how your transmission works" because i have one torn apart at the shop... i think it'd be good knowledge

Will trade crazy 6point cage for RB20DET swap!

dude, the gears are always in mesh. And what's the front and rear shafts? there's an input shaft, countershaft, and a mainshaft (output).

Schwag: A usual symptom of bad synchros is hard shifting. If it's hard for you to get into a certain gear, then that gears synchro is bad.

front(input) rear (output). said it that way so it might be alittle easier to understand. by mesh i meant the collar sliding to connect the shafts... get it?

shwag. i am willing to bet that you put your tob in backwards and now it is seized up so when it engages the pressure plate the whole bearing spins. not good for the pressure plate.

wha? you have to put it on so that the side that spins freely is against the pressure plate.

I definetly put it on right. The bearing was an odd one. Once side had a closed tin like face and the other had a steel lip with a smooth surface(which i faced towards the clutch cover). That side spun freely. The bearing was a peice of shit but I dont care.
