im so baked right now.
got a new oil pan gasket and oil and shit so maybe ill finish putting my car together.
and i smoked the craziest weed today... OR is weed pwn
ugh. i started diligently putting it together today, and my ziplock of waterpump bolts has disappeared. good thing i bought i front cover + bolts from a friend the other day, otherwise id have to buy more than just those gay ass nuts for the waterpump pulley. i wish i could not have one.
everythign else seems to be going well, everything is got siliconed and double checked, my timing is on and my distrubutor is kinda on. ill deal with that bs later, but it should be enough to get the car running.
i noticed that my rotationg chain guide is like.. insanely tight. to the point where it has the tensioner completely pressed into the body of it. suppose ill see how that shit goes. only thing im worried about is the valves, but rotating it by hand i got blowby in all the cylinders and none of the valves look to be low.
also i only have 2 bolts on my passenger side transmission-engine coupler thing.. somehow those dissappeared to. fucking hate my garage. hopefully i can buy some nuts tomorrow, put ym pulley on, put my vc back on and it will run like its supposed to.
hell You sound like you are doing this way more organized then how I did it. I spent hours searching for bolts. Then said to hell with it and went down to the u-pull to get those missing bolts. good luck with it though.
anyways i got it all together and #2 is compressionless.... im taking it to a shop. i just dont want to turn wrenches anymore. i just put fucking 25$ in new oil in my car. fuck this shit
What up man i see the build is going in great directions
Keep reppin for us single slamers

well did you do a wet compression test to? did you have the head tested after assembly? there is always down turns to a build, shit it almost took me a year to build my motor. I know it sucks, especially when got all these light things add up. These are the points you ask your self if the ends are worth the means.
my answer?.?.?.?.?. Well I know that my car right now isn't 'fast.' I did build mine for high boost though. Still I would rather drive my 240, then my 03 v6 exl accord. not to say that my accord isn't sweet as hell. It is comfortable fast, and reliable. Still the 240sx gives me such a sense of pride. At that point I don't care that it is not as fast, that it has left me walking two times, that it shakes a bit with the solid trans mount, that my tires are bald, and it sucks to control in the rain, ect.....
I made it! I spent the time, sweat, blood, tears, and yes even the damn money. I am so proud of my 240 that to me it is all worth it. I can't wait to do the next step. I hope this will either give you the encouragement to either continue, or see the flaws in my thinking, and get out before you loss to much.
well regardless of conditions you never get 0 compression unless shit is wrong. considering i just spent 200 on getting headwork done, then 3 days later my timing chain breaks, and im only on unemployment getting 160 a week with no dd, im gonna say fuck this and take it somewhere. im tired of losing bolts and nuts and tools in my tiny ass garage straight up. someone else can deal with it for a while.
It's more than likely just a bent valve. I would just compression check the good cylinders and if they are all within spec take the head off and replace the intake or exhaust valves that are bent.
Personally, I could have the head off, valve replaced and back in running condition in a day or so for far less than what a shop would charge. I don't know what kinda prices they charge in your area but around here there is a shop that says it takes 3 days to change a timing guide on a SOHC. The labor alone would be in the thousands, and that's just a timing guide, lol.
Don't give up tho man, if car's were easy to work on and everything always went smooth It wouldn't be any fun.
Best of luck.
+1 every one would do it, you don't know how many times I have heard that. the best quote for any project car,.,.,.,.,.,., ' it was the best of times, it was the was the worst of times.....'
What I would do is pull the head, push the car out to the street, and then get the head work done as soon as you can. After that you wait till you got the money, and the head is done. Then push the car back in, and slap the bitch on.
You don't need any special tools to change a valve. The last head I built (which revved well beyond 7k with all used OEM valve train and it's still running better than ever) was done with a universal valve spring compressor ($15), valve lapping compound/lapping tool ($7) and a torque wrench.
I would just do what pet240 said, use the money you'll be saving doing it yourself for a cam.
i took the head to my buddy today. hes leak testing and then hes replacing the valve and guide as long as its the only one with a problem but my compression has always been pretty consistant so im not worried about it.
when i took it off my #2 exhaust was super bent, but that was the only contact
ya its running pretty well. today i started having lifter noise and shitty valve lift, and i really just need my solids. too bad i dont got another 100$ to get mine.
my oil pressure is funny now, when i start it up it takes a sec to have oil pressure, and progressivley long the longer its been off. i dont know why, my oil pressure is kinda low, but everything else seems to be running great. i need to set my timing though
yeah i dont know if its actually a problem anymore, just maybe something you dont see with the stock dummy light. It just takes a bit to build up, but it catches everytime.. but i also park on a hill upwards everytime.. since i dont have reverse anymore. maybe all the oil is just in the back of my pan, either way it doesnt matter. its running good, i still havent gotten to time it but it runs really well.
