KA24E valvespring and cam upgrade?

I've seen the power potential of the KA24E engine series and have decided to go a different route tha most. I've chosen N/A for a couple reasons.

Number 1 is that I'm broke as a joke and will be modding my engine with the insurance money I could have otherwise used for a silvia conversion

Reason number 2 is that I don't want to reduce the amount of space in my engine bay that makes these cars so darn fun and easy to work on.

I'm planning on getting a custom camshaft made by O&J performance, does anyone here have experience with them? They have good customer service and have great prices (their prices are honest, not like those crazy asians trying to charge $500 for a camshaft).

I plan on getting somewhere in the range of .500-.520 lift at the valve and maybe 5-10 degrees more duration than stock. I really need this engine to pass smog though and I HATE rev-happy engines so that is my reason for the rather low duration.

Are there any aftermarket valvesprings available for the KA24E? I don't want to cause my stock valvesprings to coil bind and destroy my head (or atleast the rockers), I also don't want any valve float in the 6000-6500 RPM range. I will not raise my rev limiter so there shouldn't be too much risk of valve float.

Other plans for this engine "build"

Chipped ECU, preferably tuned for my custom camshaft and to keep EGR permanently closed and pollute like a mofo.

I plan to buy another intake manifold set from the junkyard and port match everything and clean up the casting flaws. I've ported motorcycle cylinder heads before and had GREAT results with just a little work removing the casting flaws and port matching the intake and exhaust.

Possibly buy another exhaust manifold and port match it so whatever gasket I choose to run, if a gasket is needed (probably fel-pro).

I may add a small (20-50 horsepower) shot of nitrous later down the line. I'd like to add power without adding an unsafe amount of strain on the engine.

I will not buy a previously designed camshaft, but you may show me links if you would like to help sway my camshaft design a bit. I've checked out the Nismo cams and PAECO cams and really don't like any of their grinds. They have far too much duration and never enough lift for my taste. I want an engine that has more midrange but doesn't lose the low end grunt that made me fall in love with my 240 in the first place.

Opinions?

I'm off for now.

this is my... "old testament" of motor bibles
My Home Page

Colt/PDM cams have a multiple grinds, with some not much high duration, over stock duration and some with very high duration, but i know they do custom grinds. the nice thing about their technology is that they have designed their lobes to have staggered opening on one of the intake valves, so as to still make the swirl effect, or the high velocity air movement needed for the low end you want. im sure if you wanted one of their lower duration cams, you could tell them you wante dmore lift, im sure they would accomodate..

Other than the cam, that website has the link to the company that sells their stiffer valve springs, with a part number.

Now dont go to the j/y my friend, check this stuff out first
http://www.xcessivemanufacturing.com...l?id=16&step=2

if your going n/a, i would totally go with some headers. the torque loss wont be noticable and one you get the cam, they would probably help

Thats a pretty good deal for a custom intake manifold but I'll need to pass smog in CA (unless I register my car to a PO box in a non-smog county and have my mail forwarded to my real address).

Thanks Mike! It turns out I didn't have that injector... I saw it in the junkyard and forgot it while scavenging for other parts.

Don't you have to run a solid lifter conversion with those cams?
