Ok guys, thought I'd post something that's actually car related to something I've done.
I made mention of my first build in the noob introduction thread, but hey we get a grip of noob posts in there everyday, so I didn't really expect much of a reply.
Anyway, for the record my name is Jordan, but you can call me Jordy or Jords. I grew up here in SoCal, but spent the last couple years living in Las Vegas, where I built my first car, a 96 Nissan Sentra aka B14. About a year and a half ago I got married and decided that Vegas was a sucky place to grow a family, so I made the move back to SoCal. Unfortunately my turbo B14 is rather emissions unfriendly and it had to stay behind as there was no way it would make it out here, short of tearing the whole thing apart again.....
Sooo I perceived a golden opportunity to finally make the switch the RWD. So I traded my B14 to my buddy in exchange for his old s13 (he had way to many projects going on) and some credit towards parts, as he has a lot of good connections with vendors and fabricators. So my B14 is now serving as his DD while he works on converting his original B14 into a track monster. As for my S13 it will be towed here this June or July.
But anyway here's the story of my B14:
After sorting through a long list of possible beginner project cars, I decided via the urging of my afore mentioned friend, to get a Nissan Sentra. I had been thinking of hondas, and maybe an eclipse, and was pretty much "riced" as far as my thinking was re tuner cars. However I really fell in love with Nissans when he took me for a ride in his turboed b14. I'd been in some turbo hondas before, but his car was a cut above as it had been built properly, and had been run previously out of San Diego in several drag races placing times in the 11s and 12s
So i decided to pick up a similar B14 and the plan was that we'd build it up together. Now being the noob that I was i picked up a rather ricey B14 out of Ohio. The seller gave me quite a bit of grief in that he neglected to send the title to me by priority mail, and because of this, Murphey's law struck and the title was lost in the mail for almost 3 months before it finally showed up. Anyway here's some pics of the car a couple months after I got it. These are not digital pics, so excuse the grainyness.
Specs of the car at purchase as best as I can remember are as follows
Drift Body Kit (badly cracked in spots)
Connoisseur rims 17x7
Tein basics
crapola exhaust
Nismo front shock tower bar
some sort of cheap cold air intake
lightweight flywheel
Sr20de motor with about 160k miles
As this was my first project build ever I stayed pretty simple. I purchased most of my buddy's setup from him and together we swapped that into my car.
Again from memory what went in:
Sr20det motor w/ 89k miles T3 turbo and sorry I don't remember the intercooler maker
Jim Wolf Ecu
MSD ignition control box
ACT stage 3 clutch (i liked it stiff and it was always funny to watch everyone stall the car when they tried to drive it)
Aquamist cooling system for both the motor and intercooler
and of course the small things like tubing, gagues, etc.
and had the flywheel resurfaced
Apexi 3" exhaust
Powerslot brake rotors, and the front calipers were upgraded to a larger size from the Nx
I dont have any pics left from when we did the swap, but I have some taken from several months after the fact. You'll notice the body kit was starting to fall apart on me. As such I took off the bumpers, patched some of the fiberglass, did some lousy bondoing and painted both of them with truck bed liner for durability and just to see what the heck it would look like lol. Also I took a spare black b14 hood i had and threw it on. mmm looked like a ricey red and black police car....but at least it was fast..very fast. More pics
And my car as it sat w/ two of my buddy's other Nissans a sleeper B14 and a show car G20 that his wife drove before it was vandalized
Okay...well once I had saved up funding once again I set out to correct the exterior deficiencies of the car. I basically went for a more JDM look:
- I removed the body kit and replaced the side skirts w/ the OEM Se-R side skirts. I replaced the front and rear bumpers w/ their oem counterparts and added some lip/canard goodies to the front bumper
- Replaced the wannabe black hood with a real CF hood
- Replaced the headlights w/ a black housing headlight that is common on B14's in the Philippines and other parts of asia but not here.
- Got a genuine Lucino grill. If you know b14's you'll know what that is.
And for the interior I got some new mats, a quick release steering wheel (picked it up for $20 on one of my trips to the Philippines lol) and Yonaka racing seats.
And I had the whole car repainted for groovy price of $500. It had orange peel, and some overspray, but I was happy.
Here's some pics I took right after paint:
And pics of the interior after I installed seats etc:
I have some cool road trip pics that I'll post in a bit. But that's about it for this car. It's now happily living on as a DD while I research my s13. Can't wait till it's delivered! Hope you guys enjoyed.
Peace
