Hi guys, new to this forum. Nice to meet you. Gonna blow up the ka.
Just got a '89 240sx with a KA24E @ 89k for $1200! (old guy original owner recipt for everything).
I have a sr to swap to. BUT in the meantime mind as well try this turbo kit from MAXRedline for the ka24e and @ $1250. Says it work on all stock, LETS FIND OUT. Did testing on the KA everything checks out, compression at 190`191. Will post the complete project from stock before and after, Till death. =]
Enjoy. Kit comes on the 22nd. THis will be fun lol.
DONT KILL YOUR KA! Well, good luck trying if you must.
With that low of mileage (relatively speaking), the engine ought to be perfectly fine at moderate boost levels. I'd keep it below 10PSI for a while and have fun spanking SR's. You should just keep the KA turbo setup when your engine dies and throw in a rebuilt long block from rockauto (~$1000). The KA is a much stronger engine and has 400cc's more displacement which will give you shitloads more torque than the SR.
KA>SR.
PM me when you get this done, I've been interested in that kit but am afraid of the turbo.

I'm kinda afraid of the turbo too. Made in China they said, I'll put it to the test for sure lol. I know the KA has a good bottom end, and the kit runs @ 7psi. WHo knows this might be a great kit and a good bong for the buck deal. I will keep this post updated to let every one know if is good or not. When I bought the car it was just swap to a sr or try this kit for cheap.
If I kill the KA so be it. It won't be the end of it's life =]
Blowing up a perfectly good engine is pointless. Not to mention your putting in an engine that will make less power with more boost.
Theres a vid on youtube (i'm too lazy to find it) with a stock KA (ECU, Injectors, ect.) making 232whp with 7psi.
Adding almost 100hp from just 7psi of boost, and to make it even sweeter it actually has torque through out the rpm range!
I seriously know that. The whole point of this is to test this kit for me. I have the ka24e in the car one in the garage, th sr and a rb26dett in the garage. This is my brothers car, and he was curious about 5this kit for so cheap. the rb is mine for my s15. I have this thread for feedback on what you guys think on this kit for so cheap. I'm not planning on blowing it up, but if it does either cheap parts from the kit or something internal goes wrong you guys shall know =]. I run cars hella hard. Will let you guys know.
Definitely keep us updated, I've been contemplating turboing my KA-E myself but I'm just afraid that it has too many miles on it. Mine has 170k non beaten highway miles and I'm the second owner.
Counting mileage on a car, or basing the worthyness of the car on miles is stupid. If you had a old guy who drove it for twenty years to work and back, followed all the rules of the road--- Or if some 19yr old kid hot rodded it as fast and hard as he can for the same amount of miles BIG diff.
So all in all you never really know. Just do tests, everything with in spec use your judgement, or don't. But for sure, if you have doubts it's a great idea to have a back-up plan like we do. =]
I'm going to try to make this build the most in-depth installation guild for a ka24e so far. I've seached and searched and not found someone buying a kit and installing from start to running yet. I'm gonna post alot of pictures ALL the issues and the preogress of solving them (if any). So cheers~updating begin on the 22nd.
i'll be watching this..... good luck man, as much chit as everyone talks about the ebay kits and china turbos and what not, i can't imagine many more than 1-2 of the 23094230423984023982 who say that the kits are junk have actually used them... i've heard from a few people that they've run their ebay set ups under moderate boost for over two years...
thread subscribed... keep us updated....

Drive hard.
Agreed, the general rule is if compression is good go for it, just have a good tune but I usually like to start with a fresh build if funds permit.
yeah good luck i was thinkin about turboing mine once i get done the head gasket which the dink that i bought it off of sold it to me that way and didnt know it but i was going to try to buy the kit off ebay but yeah definetly keep us posted

Subscribed! I decided to just order a stock rebuild kit for mine for now. Wanted to try one of the ebay rebuild kits. I figure worst case I'll have to do it over by next winter. Plus the kit comes with water and oil pumps!

1989 Piggy Hatch-status: Stripped car and tearing down S14 KA for a rebuild
Just got the shipping detail from FedEX. Online on their site the said the kit wieghs at 69.0 lbs. FedEX said it wieghed at 40 lbs. This has me kinda worried, I don't know what a Turbo with piping and everything should wiegh.
but what if you have a s13 with a STRONG ka but a weak transmission, (im lazy too) rebuilding the trans. is out of the subject with a daily driver and a turbo for the ka isnt much more than a SR with a tranny.
Stuff is estimated to arive on wed. hopefully tuesday. It was shipped in two packages, I was freaking out when the tracking came to 1 box at 40 lbs. I couldn't call and ask cause they were closed on the weekend. When I called today the guy laughed and said there are two boxes one @ 40lbs and one @ 26.lbs. I'm a tard. Will post pics when the toys get here
Dude KA's are good engines. I love mine but i guess if you HAVE to have an SR20 do what you want. All im saying is that you could sell such a healthy engine on ebay and buy parts fro your SR20 swap later on. Blowing it up is pointless

if he has the money he can do what he wants. and if he has a rb26 swapped s15 i bet he has the money
