180SXw/CA18DET: Reliable low-mid 12 sec drag, autox, show, all year car possible?

Well like the topic states.

I've been thinking alot about this, and planning my budget and so forth. Now my goal is: To transform a 180SX with a CA18DET into a low 12 second drag, autox, show car, all year reliable car. Now people have been saying this would be too unreliable.

Now I'm trying to compete with my friends, some of them are show, some of them are go, and some of them are drag. Some of them just do everything There's a FD RX7 it'll be running 10s soon, but it'll still beable to outhandle anything on the street, and in autox

So I'd probally want to be atleast mid 12s for drag, and autox I don't think that will be a problem, and show is pretty easy too (not extreme, just good looking I should say)

So With an engine rebuild, with new cams, lifters, valve springs, metal headgasket, a new flywheel and clutch. With other upgrades like a Disco Potato Turbo, FMIC, tuning etc...the engine SHOULD beable to handle mid 12s reliably as a daily driver right?

I mean does this sound unreasonable? Having this work? What kind of problems do you forsee, what should I change as my goal? I want something that will do everything not perfect, but good

PS This car WILL be driven in winter, but under low or no boost.

Now I've already chosen what I want for suspension, brakes, rims, tires, and the "show" aspect. It seems to me that people are saying maybe the engine/tranny won't beable to handle it. I dunno :/ Does the CA engine really need so much of an overhaul to handle that kind of power needed?

People have wondered what kind of plan I have for suspension:
Zeal B6 Coilovers, Maybe Nismo S-tune, Maybe JIC, but I really like the B6 solution so far.
Nismo Powerbrace
Cusco front/rear strut bar w/floor mount for rear
Whiteline anti-roll bars front-rear
17" Volk Gram light rims
Khumo MX tires.

Hell, look at the Project Silvia on SCC, it runs high 12s, and STILL handles well.

spend money, you can get it do whatever the hell you want it to. "What kind of problems do you forsee" you need money.

250hp should give you 12's and it will be reliable and easy to street drive too.
Better go 300 just in case. Easy to do with boltons - turbo, injectors, afm, fuel pump, remap

Yep I got that all planned out Turbo (either Disco Potato or 2530 should be enough), Power FC, Apexi AVCR (sp?) with 3 boost curves for snow, summer, race, cams, valve springs, metal head gasket, injectors, fuel pump, Z32 MAF, HUGE FMIC, maybe custom exhaust work, Greddy or HKS downpipe, hmmm do I need an external Wastegate? Maybe...

PS Joel your 180SX is SEXY, although it's a little too low for my city damned potholes, anyways, I love the interior, how did you do those guages?

all i can say is that you will need more than one set of wheels/tires. snow tires, street tires, and race tires. you could probably run the race tires on the street but they will wear out pretty fast, and with your engine (assuming you are from the states where the ca isn't stock) you will be in street mod where any tires are legal so you might as well get some slicks for autoX and drag.

Well first I'll have just Summer/Winter tires/rims

(I'm in Canada BTW)

Then I'll have my dedicated AutoX and Drag rims/tires as well

You shouldnt need the metal head gasket and for 250-300 internal wastegate works fine and is cheaper. FMIC doesnt need to be massive either. My housemate as a 300rwhp silvia and his intercooler is a 680x300x75 mack truck core - cost him a carton of beer for the core and $100 for the end tanks.

Its not that low - it sits around 12mm at lowest point (exhaust) which is 2mm above legal limit here. I dont have big problems with speedbumps or pot holes and Perth has some of the worst roads in the world!

Gauges? hehe trade secret Ill just say the pivot gauges have a really slim profile so they are easy to put in places autometer gauges just cant go.
