All you stick shifters..
So Im at the beach with my family, Im skimboarding the shoreline, take a nasty spill and end up at the ER with a seriously sprained wrist and fucked up elbow. Now Im back at the hotel with my arm in a cast held by a sling..and I have to drive 4 hours back home sat morning. Not looking foward to this at all...anyone ever been in a similar situation?

My brother got in a bike accident and broke his right wrist and forearm, we all have stick shift cars and he drives to and from work (50 miles) with the cast like nothing.

I had a similar situation after Riding my dirt bike once. Like Gabo said try to predict the road as much as you can. I was shifting with my opposite arm as much as I could too.

+1 on shifting with opposite hand. That seems to be the best way.

I broke my right collar bone in a bicycle wreck about 15 years ago, had to drive myself to the hospital in a 5 spd S10. If you ever broke it you'd know how important it is. You can still use you arm a little but no real strength. I.d rest my right arm on the wheel, lock the wheel with my knee from underneath, and reach across and shift with my left hand.

That's the idea right there. Luckily my injury wasn't nearly that extreme so I still had some use of my shoulder.

I dont think I could trust someone shifting for me...escpicially if theyre sitting shotgun. I can imagine them trying to go from 3rd to 4th and accidently going back into 2nd and then bye-bye trans/motor.

I let my girl shift all the time. I just tell her when too shift and what gear to shift in to. No biggie.
If I pick up the phone with the wrong hand sometimes I find myself shifting with my left almost unconsciously. lol

while shifting, hold the steering wheel with your knee and quickly shift with your healthy arm and then grab your steering wheel again.

my ex would do the same thing, she even had it down so I didnt even have to say shit. I would push in the clutch and she would shift to whatever gear I needed, upshift or down shift.
