I don't know if I have really good luck or just shitty luck when it comes to dealing with electronics and customer service departments.
Most of you know about my shit with FYE recently. For those of you that don't, search for threads I started recently.
Today is a new one. My LG VX9800 has been a walking nightmare since I got it back in February of 2006. It's a great phone when it works properly, but it seems that either I'm getting every bag LG there is, VZW lies to me and gives me refurbs instead of new ones, or LG has shitty quality control with those 9800s. I'm guessing D) All of the above.
Anyway.
My latest problem (and this is my 3rd LG since then, they all break within 4-6 months, this one was bad since day 1 and I just now got it changed out after a month and a half) involved the camera on the phone. The first two phones had great cameras for the little 1.3mp that they were. But my third one was an absolute POS. It didn't know what focus was and the actual slider on the outside of the phone to allow you to focus didn't even slide the whole way. It would stop about 1/3 of the way from portrait to macro.
So I go up to the Verizon store in town that has a service department to try and get this shit exchanged for an entirely different model. Meanwhile, you should know that we have insurance on this phone because I am somewhat rough with my phones (my old V60S was indestructible) and I don't trust warranties lasting. This woman tells me all they can do is give me another 9800 or an 8300. The 8300 is a standard clamshell and I bought this 9800 specifically for the keyboard. I tell her no, I want the 9900 (The EnV) or something different. She tells me tough shit.
I demand to speak to a manager and she ignores me and disapeared into the back on some pretend attempt to the get the manager. I waited but then gave up and got a different associate. I told him I needed to speak to the manager immediately. Apparently I wasn't the only one having problems with Verizon phones and their tech service. The same woman was trying to help one other woman and this associate I am positive is totally mental.
But I finally get a manager and get my mother up there (her name on the account, I needed her there to get me a new phone to sign off on it). I calmly explain to the manager what my problem was and she tells me no problem and that she will handle it and get me the 9900. The reason I asked for the 9900 was because it was the only one that had a keyboard, it was newer, and the current cost for one is $50 less than I paid for my 9800, and they don't even have 9800s on the shelf. She disapears to activate it and charge it up for me. I even got a free microSD card out of the whole thing because the 9800 uses a miniSD and she gave me a 512MB micro (I had a 256 mini).
I just love, though, how bitching can get you almost anything you want when it comes to customer service. This is one thing I am going to miss about America when I move this summer. No other country has this kind of customer service. But a warning to anyone using Verizon - I hope that your local store has more knowledgeable people than mine. If not, get the manager and hope the IQ scores are higher at the top of the food chain. Hope you don't have to wait 2 and a half hours like me, too.
Funny thing during the whole thing was that the manager was really hot and had a rack I could've set my Dr Pepper on top of ...
Cliff notes:
- The LG VX9800 is shit and I've now owned 3 of them
- The LG VX9900 is cool and I hope it works better than a 9800
- Verizon's policy on exchanging phones is shit (you must have 3 change outs within 90 days to upgrade to a new model)
- Bitching at the pee-ons and being nice with the manager scores freebies
Nerd 1: Why do I get the feeling that this is really a mob, just waiting for someone to say something they do not agree with? Nerd 2: That's the best description for the Internet I've ever heard.
Shit man im sorry to hear that.. phone problems really do suck.
But ive had the LG VX9800 for probably over a year and no problems, the camera isnt that great but other than that i love it.
But yeah the EnV is nice my buddy has it.

yooo what would cause none my like keys to work? the only key that works is the one on the side of my phone. i can get calls cause all i do is open my phone... but can't type, turn off absolutely nothing. not even turn the volume down
After this 9900 which I'm only going to have for 3 weeks ... I just want some normal shit. Just something like a color Nokia or Sony Ericson with a camera on it and that's it. Some of these phones will all these features ... damn. I'd never use even half of 'em. 1) Too cheap 2) Ain't got the time

has the phone been dropped a lot? has it been in direct sunlight for awhile? is your phone water damaged? have you updated your phone with the latest firmware? it can be a number of things

since your using a 9800, i take it that you have verizon or some sort of CDMA service. i would highly recommend getting:
LG VX5200
Nokia 6236i
Samsung SCH-A670
those three phones are very basic, they look nice, and works perfectly as a mobile phone.

well... i am a tech and i talk in the shower lol
so the water damage... i pretty much need to get a new phone? this happened before when i was talking in the shower except just said "rescue mode" but worked later. lol and yea i was talking in the shower when happened was hoping you wouldn't ask.
That's the phone I have. The camera isn't what i'd say great but it gets the job done. As far as the durability, it's indestructable. I've thrown it down 2 flights of wood stairs, submerged, dropped it at high speed (about 20mph), and a number of other brutal akts to it and all it's suffered are a few scratches.
I'm sorta trying to kill it to give me an excuse to upgrade before my contract is up. It just wont die on me.
