ok, so i was putting my turbo manifold back on my RB25 and the top left stud snapped off so deep there is no way I can grab it or anything. I tried to drill it out and put the EZ out stud remover in it, no way in hell its coming out, even the tip of the stud remover broke off inside of the bolt. So, does anyone have any ideas whatsoever? I'm not sure that I want to ignore it and just slap the manifold back up there, I would be afraid of it leaking...am i right?
if its as deep as you say, then just put another stud in there. As long as you have the other bolts, the only purpose that bolt will have is mechanical compression, which it can do. so do it, other thing you could do is drill through the bottom of the flange, to the back of the bolt and get at it that way, but that depends on if you can get at it from the right angle
well i took the manifold back off after i broke it and and there is definately no way that I can get another stud in there, i cant see any threads. So i guess it isnt that deep. but too deep to do anything with
you are referring to the stud in the head right? or on the manifold? either way the best thing you can do if you can't get it out with an extractor is to drill the hole completely out and use a heli-coil on the hole.
I had 5 out of 12 broken studs on my motor. I took the head to a head repair shop here because I too broke a stud remover in the bolt and he used very small bits. Can't remember the type but he said he broke like 8 of them getting the one out with the broken EZ out. He ended up using a heli-coil on that one.
yeah they are super weak. lol It is broken on the head side of it...
an yes i am using a stud remover...they same ones u posted a picture of...Is anyone running theirs without one of the studs in? What would happen if I did that?
Is the motor in the car or out of the car? If it's still out of the car I would definitely recommend getting it fixed before putting it in. Wouldn't want to get it in there and running good only to have severe exhaust leaks. If the stud remover is broken in there then chances are you're going to have to use a heli-coil though. The guy at the shop where I took mine said he drilled a lot of holes around the stud remover until it was broken up around it so he could get it out.
it is out of the car, fortunately, but the only problem would be that I dont want to haul the whole engine down there, and IDK if i want to do the hassle of taking the head off. taht would suck
if you run without the stud you will most likely end up with a warped manifold and a big exhaust leak. helicols are not hard to do, just make sure you drill straight

I would agree. If you're worried about drilling straight try to get a drill block or something and use tape around the bit to make sure you don't drill too deep lol or check around locally to see if anyone could come to your garage and do it. Might have to pay them obviously, but I would feel a lot better about my motor getting it done right the first time.
Sp this sucks, now I have to try and find a mechanic taht knows what they are doing and have this damn broken ass bolt taken out of my head. Anyone know of a place where I can get all brand new studs for my Exhaust mani.
