heres a pic of what the e code lenses do. mind you this not HID and they plug into your stock harness with no modification. the lens has lines in it the direct the light in specific directions allowing them to control where cutoff begins and how far you throw light side to side. they utilize H4 bulbs with a shroud and the housing and lenses are engineered to direct light properly. as opposed to most which have no shroud and the lenses are just plain. heres an example
THE RED LINES DEPICT WHERE YOUR LIGHT IS GOING
on the e codes you can clearly see the engineering that went into properly managing the light output. at the top you have the cutoff, bottom you have the light directed to the ground, left side puts light side to side, and that nifty thing on the right will actually throw light farther and slightly higher to give the side of the road visibility (i.e. a sidewalk, bike lane, etc) however this does mean that you have a left and a right headlight, if you swap them around your nifty sidewalk vision is now blasted into oncoming traffic so please do take this into account.
HELLA E CODES VS STOCK HEADLIGHTS (not vs the ones i have pictured above)
bottom line, $100, no modifications, engineered to actually work, awesome performance from a company that is more than reputable. the choice is pretty clear for me. HELLA E CODES....BUY THEM
