sr20det spark plugs misfiring?

ok yesterday i changed my oil, and my spark plugs. and last night i was driving around doing whatever, ripping the car around and it seemed like it wasnt pulling as hard as usual and it was like studdering a little while floored, almost like it was misfiring. I replaced the plugs with NGK v - power plugs for a 92 sentra se-r. and the gap was the same as the ones that came off my SR. Did i buy the wrong plugs, or should there be a different gap? i think the gap was like .35 or something, but they came that way. Im running stock boost (about .5 bar) if that matters. help me out, im thinking about puttin my old plugs back in.

The gap was probably incorrect, it should be 0.90mm or 0.035 inches. Did you torque them in there properly? What is the code of the plugs, hot or cold?

Definitely sounds like your plugs arent gapped low enough. As is gets colder out side i have found (through my winters with the SR) that the motor likes you to lower the gap. I ran mine at about .028. Try that and you should see improvement. Also, make sure the heat range on the plugs is 7 and not 6. 6 is too hot of a plug for a daily driven turbo motor. Get NGK BCPR7ES-11, thats the ones the SR likes.

ok, the ones i bought are bkr6e's, like i said those are the ngk v -powers for a 92 se-r and came gapped around .35 inch. The plug that was in the SR before are ngk's also, but are PFR6G-11's. those are gapped at .34. The SR seemed like it misfired with the old plugs a little, so i replaced them with new ones, and it does it worse. I take it that im obviously gapped too wide and i need 7's.

"Get NGK BCPR7ES-11, thats the ones the SR likes."

I'll look around for those, thanks.

also , i have that idle problem when you put the clutch in and the rpms drop real low and then go back to normal...
i checked and cleaned my aiv/aac, found a leak in my intercooler piping but fixed it and i checked all my vaccum hoses. do you think the car is just misfiring when it drops down like that, cuz it doesnt do it every single time.

How low do your RPM's drop? If you have an atmospheric BOV then it is normal. If you have the stock recirc its still normal, its not a problem, its just that the ECU is a little slow to catch on sometimes, happens on my car when I run the recirc, as long as the engine is not stalling your fine.

my idle is set high right now at like 900-1000rpm. the rpms drop down to about 400-500 just for a second, if i had my idle lower then my car probably would stall. Usually when the rpms drop and then come back up, a cloud of blackish smoke comes form the exhaust due to richness.

Sounds like an atmospheric BOV common occurance. If you dont like it, ricirculate it, thats what i did. You can still hear the pssshh (not as loud though) but you get rid of a lot of backfires when you let off the gas, and you get rid of the almost stalling problem.

Definitely get rid of the plugs you had in there and install the ones i listed above at a .028" gap.

Good luck bud.

I'll be installing a good sized Spearco FMIC soon and was a little worried about the stalling problem that might come with it....any advice on a good recirculating BOV? And I'll be getting those NGK plugs too....

The HKS SSQV, Blitz dual drive and I beleive both Greddy's have recirculation kits. The ApexI dual chamber does not.

Cars run off air and fuel mixture. Well since our cars have the maf crap. When you run your bov at atmosph you're letting out all your air, which leaves your engine with a crap load of fuel, thus it drowns and wants to die. Just tap the gas after you PPSSHHTT so you give it a little air. Next step = getting an afc to tell it "i have a bov, so when i let off the gas all my air is going out, so Mr. AFC, what I want you to do is, close the fuel when I let off the gas = problem solved. Aubrey what you driving now? I bought john's s14, he working at BG now =]

your plug wires fully seated? i know it sounds stupid but that could be part of the problem.

Naw no muffler yet >_< , I got a walbro 255 for it, and some eibach springs for $50 GG! I also changed the exhaust manifold gasket and tightened all the bolts in that area. Other than that I haven't gotten to do anything yet. I'm so friggin poor. Rack and Kao stopped by Andretti's for a little. Kao's got the front half of an r32 coming for his ps13. Message me with your email cause I have a lot of questions to ask ya.

They are heat range 7 (turbo friendly) and you can get platinums for less than $25 at some local parts stores.

well would platinums be worth the extra money?? And another question...what would I have to do or upgrade to run a straight up atmospheric BOV? -- granted I have a fmic?

You wouldn't need to do anything, but your car will want to die sometimes because of what I explained earlier in this thread. You can get an afc to fix that problem, or just live with it like my can't afford crap for my car working 40 hour weeks for almost nothing broke mofo ass =]. Just so you guys know the little 11 on the end of that just means it's pre gapped to 1.1 ( .044 ) , which is very wide but the sr will run fine off that, I'm still searching for the gap my sr likes atm. The B means it's 14 mm , the 7 is obviously the heat range, and I forget what the rest of the numbers mean. What is the plug code for the NGK R BCPR7ES 11 in platinum? Every friggin auto place I go to doesn't stock it , "but can order it", and when I ask for the bcpr7es in platinum they dunno wtf the code is. They keep trying to give me some auto light or champion garbage. Oh and by the way try to keep anything you buy from Napa to a bare friggin minimum. I bought one of their oil filters and the next day the focker popped off and spilled all my precious mobil 1 10w-30 everywhere. Uber ghey.

The "Napa silver" oil filter stripped. It was still on the threads when I stopped cause my oil light came on so I tightened it with my hands and it stripped itself looses. Maybe I just need to get some pussy LOL, dunno my own strength kakaka. My SR loves .035, Yay!! I had another problem with a napa part this week too, only buy oil and plugs from napa, basically anything they don't manufacture LOL, that's my 2 cents
