S13 red and black

Ok, i know this has been beaten to death, but i have yet to see someone come out and say this,"S13 redtop and blacktop are identical except for the year and car that it came from."

is this true??

Are the mounts the same, wiring, and the such, if so then the only diff. is the strong possibility that the S13 blacktop has fewer miles on it than a S13 redtop and this is why one would pay more for it??

thanks to anyone who can confirm or deny this.

first off.. use search.

second...yes they are the same. the blacktop is just more rare. This being that we are talking about the S13 SR20DET. Then yes, they are the same.

Wiring differences between 1991-1996 SR's and 1997-1998 SR's. ECU change in 1995 and 1997. Went from 62,63 ECU to E5,E6 ECU, then finally to J3,J4 (iirc) ECU's. Only minor difference in pinouts to accommodate new stuff on the 1997's like digital odometer, airbags, etc.

Engine diffs, all trivial crap like the holes on the redtop hydraulic lash adjustors are smaller than on later blacktops. Vertical gills on some of the blacktop SR's heads.

so does that affect the wiring procedure in comparison with the S13 black and S13 red since the S13 black was from 95-98.

Listen... you guys are confused... The S13 Black/Red was up until 94. From 95-98 they made S14 blacktops with VVT. And in 99 they started making S15 blacktops...

i believe ur the one thats confused... 91-94 was the S13 redtop SR20 in Silvias and 180SXs. 95-98 was S14 Blacktops iin Silvias and S13 blacktops in 180SXs. then in 99-02, S15 blacktops were only in Silvias.

USE THE SEARCH, or try www.heavythrottle.com, yeah try it and you wont give out wrong info,

so, does it affect the wiring procedure at all, this is what i was getting at originally, is the S13 blacktop harder to install than a S13 redtop?? or is it the same,

sorry for being an a$$, but if you are gonna try to spank a noob, make sure YOUR info is right b4 you share it, that was why i posted, b/c if you go through the search you get the same common confusion we have here,

Wiring from the 1991-1996 SR20DET's is different. The 1997-1998 wiring is pretty much the exact same, the difference is the pinouts on the ECU. From what Jeff at HT has indicated in the past, if you end up getting a late model ECU and have a redtop/early blacktop SR then you dont need to acquire a new ECU, you simply have to repin a couple wires. I dont know which but just email Jeff unless someone on here knows. BTW if you use the late model ECU on an early model S13 SR only the first cylinder will fire.

Layed out in uber obvious terms (Turbo models only):
1989 S13 Silvia CA18DET
1989 S13 180SX CA18DET
1990 S13 Silvia CA18DET
1990 S13 180SX CA18DET
1991 S13 Silvia SR20DET Redtop
1991 S13 180SX SR20DET Redtop
1992 S13 Silvia SR20DET Redtop
1992 S13 180SX SR20DET Redtop
1993 S13 Silvia SR20DET Redtop
1994 S13 180SX SR20DET Blacktop early model
1994 S14 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 370cc's and BB turbo early model
1995 S13 180SX SR20DET Blacktop early model
1995 S14 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 370cc's and BB turbo early model
1996 S13 180SX SR20DET Blacktop early model
1996 S14 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 370cc's and BB turbo early model
1997 S13 180SX SR20DET Blacktop late model
1997 S14 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 370cc's and BB turbo late model
1998 S13 180SX SR20DET Blacktop late model
1998 S14 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 370cc's and BB turbo late model
1999 S15 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 480cc's and S15 BB turbo
2000 S15 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 480cc's and S15 BB turbo
2001 S15 Silvia SR20DET Blacktop with VTC, 480cc's and S14 BB turbo
