the 180 was only offered in Japan and when it first came out (and fastback s13's were sold in europe and south africa as 200sx's and came with sr's) it did NOT have a sr20det in it, it actually had a ca18de(T). That is where it got its name originally. The ca18de was offered in either naturally aspirated or turbocharged and could be automatic or 5 speed. Same with the sr, it was offered in naturally aspirated or turbo and auto or 5 speed.

So maybe the person that said they were getting a 180 actually is getting a 180 and it might have a ca and want a sr20det or maybe it came with a naturally aspirated sr and he wants to throw a turbo engine in it.

Just because here in the states the only 180sx's we care about are the sr powered ones, there are several options and I think it would be possible to get one of the less desirable naturally aspirated ones allot cheaper and do some of the engine work ourselves.

You might be right though, he may be from America, getting a fastback 240 and is mislead thinking its a 180 because it might be badged that way. I know someone in my town that thought he has a actual z32 farlady z and I told him it was just badged that way and its just a ordinary 300zx and he quit making payments on it and let it get repoed. He was getting his asshole ripped because he thought he had something special.

in response.... i am from America, Seattle actually, and yes i did know a 180 in japan is a 240 in us with a KA.(i just thought it would be cooler to call it a 180, seeing as how its mostly interchangeable, i suppose i was wrong) all be it i forgot/didnt know that it came with an sr20 already in it. the fluid for a cvt transmission on a honda civic can only be bought from a dealer, or so i am told by most everyone.. they could be wrong. but thats nor here nor there, im getting a 89 fastback black 240sx with a blown engine in it, planning on replacing it with a more powerful, yes sr20. thanks turkishmonkey for helping point out the error in my previous post, i was clearly wrong.

Hi I'm Nick. I'm actually looking for a car to buy soon, a first car. I've heard things from friends and others on the internet about the 240SX, but I'm not sure if it would be a good first car, so hopefully these forums will help me make a decision.

hey nick. I'm joey, I just bought my first car and it's a 240, and I'm pretty happy with it. The only thing that everyone tells me is to be careful, becasue it's not a front-wheel drive car, so it handles differently and it's easier to loose control if your not careful. especially in the rain. It's fun as balls to drive though

Anyhoo let me introduce myself to everyone.

I have been a forum member for about 2 years now and have used the site just for my viewing pleasure;
but i just bought my first one, a 1993 se, and am ready to sink my teeth into it.

It has 220,000 miles on it, but the interior is perfect (besides the expected rip in drivers seat on the left hip area) and even has an uncracked dash.
Has brand new head and new valves and such and the only rust spot is... wait for it... under the spoiler!

Hey my names max. I now own my first 240. A 95 base model. I was pretty excited about it, but now I see how much money im going to have to spend to convert it to 5-speed, get lsd and camber kits. Im not sure yet if I want to give this base model a brighter future. I kinda want to trade it for an s13 or s14 that is a stick already, so ill be halfway there. What do yall think? Yea im new to drifting, and yes even though i have an auto tranny, and open diff, I can still get my car sideways enough to make me somewhat happy. Still not enough though. u can check it out in craigslist in tacoma seattle area under 240sx 95. it looks real nice.

Hey, im from SC and i have been the proud owner of this 93 S13 for almost a year...i bought it as a barely running RB20 swap, I am now going through it front to back to make it right ( at least under the hood)) I now have the basic wiring right (it runs good) and am working on hiding the wiring and shaving the engine bay, to some extent.

^^ my suggestion for that is to get yourself a snappy avatar and sig so people remember you. something that speaks of your personality.

Then from there just do your best to help out. Remember, there's always a grip of people waiting in the wings to pour on the flames, but if you're the one guy who is patient and consistent in providing helpful info, you'll leave noobiness behind quickly.
