Wink Greetings From Australia

Hey guys, actully came across this site by mistake and decided to sign up

My names Andrew, Im from Sydney Australia

As i said i found this site by mistake looking for a part for my s13, id heard the 180sx/silvia's were known as 240sx's in the us but i diddent realise how different they actully were. Figured id sign up and learn all about them. I still have a hard time imagining an s13/14/15 with a pintara engine!

I currently own a JDM S13 Silvia with a CA18DET, its the 3rd one ive owned [ones half built and the other one was written off]. Im currently imployed for nissan as a mechanic [Apprentice] and ive also heard in the us that mechanics specalise in 1 feild [ie they only do breaks, or they only do oil changes], as in australia we have to learn and know everthing to get our trade certificate

Ive also been into drifting for the last 5 years, im a memver of several drift clubs over here in aus and ive gotten pritty good over the years, ive got a fair few mates in japan and get alot of stuff sent over now and then as i need it

so yah thats my introduction, ill dig some photos of my cars up in the near future, i figure i can put myself to good use around here, s13/14/15, R32/33/34 ca18, sr20, rb20/25/26/neo, if you have a problem i can more than likley solve it

Anyways ive ranted on a fair bit, but thats my introduction and i hope i can hang around for a while expand my nissan knowledge

Hey there and welcome to the forums; just about everything you said is true besides the fact that American mechanics specialize in only one thing.

mechanics don't specialize in one thing
to get an ASE (american service excellence, i think, my brother is one) certification, you have to have VAST know-how of various interworking of vechiles not just any one specific part or job

what you might be thinking, is in the service field... likely, when you get a job at a shop, you're likely to get stuck doing one thing over and over... just due to easy on the management... and the fact that you'll get 50 cars in a week to get an oil change, it would be easier to have one person doing that job, then 10 people doing random things, and causing them to pull off of other projects to do something else

those wheels are really common on AE86s and Hondas. They look nice too. Especially liking the charcoal ones with the machined lip

cheers guys, ill take some better photos when the weather here clears up

wheels are 2 piece Watanabes, they were on the car when i imported it

i think the little CA's are under rated, dono about the usa but over here most drifters and tuners are SR mad, so i like to be different haha. i prefur the rb26 however as im finding out fitting it to an rps13 is not an overnight job

Welcome! 240's over here aren't really any different except for the motor..the ka24de, which itself is a good motor. Most people will swap to the SR or a RB. CA's are now gaining more popularity over here. But you may know this but we have the s13 240sx hatch and coupe (180sx and "One-Via's") and the S14 240sx (zenki and Kouki). Unfortunately we never had the S15 shipped over.....but, you should enjoy your stay.

Yeah many folks are SR fanatics in the states as well. It's been glamorized to be the elite engine for the 240. For the s13 there's nothing better than the CA18 imo, especially if you wanna keep your car on a diet.

CA18 > SR20

IMO, CA18 > SR20

Maybe not over all but it is in some aspects. Sure the SR has the HP. But the engine is heavy. Could create more understeer if not tuned correctly...

But that is why we have performance parts to eliminate stuff like that.

when i went to nissan school [work sends me every month] i learned the sr20 was actully designed for a light truck, and that technologically its a step back from the ca18 because they were trying to keep the cost down. While it makes more power, it makes alot more torque [as it was suppost to a truck enging] which is why it has such desiarable down low power

ca18 has te 4>8 intake manifold, cast iron block [and its still lighter than the sr20's alloy block], 16 cam lobes [sr20 had 8 and rocker arms] just to name a few of the ca18's up side

but they both pale in comparison to the greatest engine ever made, the rb26, which is pritty much flawless [asside from the weight]. These engines are the bane of all Exotic european supercars! The only way to really build the ultamite s13 is to have the ultamite engine, because when its all said and done, the ca and sr dont even rate a mention
