A Newbs Plans For The Future (Advice Please)

Stephen's 1995 S14 240SX Life Stages:

Stage One (During College - 2 year span):

1. General Fix-up and repair of broken stock parts
2. New Wheels/Tires (A. (Finished) Stern Beast 18x8.5 Front 18x9.5 Back) (B. Volk Gram Lights 17x7.5 Front 17x8.5 Rear for track/dyno days)
3. New Suspension (Tanabe Seven Coil-overs)
4. Find/Buy OEM Stock Front Lip/Paint it Black, mount it to car (Found Seller, waiting on final price)
5. Cold Air Intake/Relocate Battery to Trunk (Currently Researching Required Parts)
6. New Exhaust (APEXi GT Spec)
7. Front and Rear Strut Braces
-----------------------------------------------
Total Budget: $4,500

Stage Two (Post College/First Job - aprox. 6 months-1 Year)

1. All New Bushings
2. New Control Arms All Around
3. New Brakes All Around (300ZX Big Brake Upgrade, Twin Piston calipers)
4. Steel Brake Lines
5. New Fuel Lines
6. Start Buying Small Parts for RB26 Swap
------------------------------------------------
Total Budget: $2,500

Stage Three (Good Job, Steady Income, Aprox. 2 year Span)

1. Buy New Car for Daily Driving
2. Strip down 240SX to frame, Media Blast, Paint, and Rebuild (Full Resto)
3. Re-Upholster Interior (carpeting, seats, headliner)
4. Buy RB26 Clip And Any Other Parts Required for Swap
5. Customize RB26 Clip
6. Tear Down RB26 and Replace Internals with Racing Parts
7. Twin Turbo the RB26 (Fab up custom parts where necessary)
8. Assemble RB26 and Place into Car
9. Pray I Don't Kill Myself
---------------------------------------------
Total Budget: $18,000

Final Stage (No Set Time Limit)

1. Add Roll Cage/Racing Seats
2. Add Quick-Release for Steering Wheel
3. Buy and Mount OEM/JDM style Sideskirts/Rear Fender Accents (still only front stock lip)
4. Anything else I probably forgot to add to this list.
--------------------------------------------
Total Budget: No Set Budget

If Everything goes as planned, the final cost should look like:

30,000 + Cost of Car + Cost of Initial Repairs = Aprox. $33,500
Forbidding any major mistakes that cost alot of money, 33,500 seems pretty reasonable for a 600hp car

This is basically what I have planned for my 240. Im hoping that when its all said and done it will be a show-quality 600ish hp well-balanced car thats easily trackable. You'll notice I was pretty general with alot of stuff. This is because these things will done over time, and technoledgy in these areas will most likely change between now and when Im actually going to be doing these mods.

You can also add (research for hours every day of my life to get to know my car better) to that list. lol.

So what do you veterans think? Any major flaws in my plans, or things you think I should add?

sounds like youve put a lot of thought into this man. I hope it goes well.
But with a complicated motor swap always be ready just in case you run inot problems and most of the time youll at least run into a few minor problems.
good luck.

Sounds like you got your plans set. I hear Full Sail sucks (friend goes there, says that sometimes he gets calls at like 3am to come in....). Oh well. BTW, I live in Kissimmee, just incase anyone was wondering (prob not....).

Its not that the education itself sucks, its that everything at fullsail is so freakin un-organized its just rediculous. They dont even have chairs and tables in the classrooms, they have these f*d up "student desks" from like 1982 thats just a really uncomfortable plastic chair with a foldover "desk" that you have to sit in for 8 hour straight, sometimes more. The teachers are usually late, all the resources are never organized, and basically you have to really want your education to get it here, cuz they really arent giving you much. TBH, if I'd known it was gonna be like this, I wouldnt have thrown 58 grand at it. So yah, go traditional, cuz fullsail needs to get their act together in a big way.

Yea, I considered going there until I heard that it isn't as great as most think. I settled on going to Seminole Community College. Have to say, its not too shabby and there a few 240's there (besides myself). I'm majoring in Game Design and more than likely Web Design.

Im in the new DAD Bachelors program. If I was gonna go to Fullsail now, I would take either film or recording arts (the one you're talking about). They are the only two decent courses there because they are the only two full sail actually has decent facilities for. They have massive sound stages for film, and the best audio equipment of any college in the US, the closest facility that even comes close is a recording studio in NY, lol.

Problem is, us Digital Arts people dont get shit because full sail focuses all there money on film, audio, and advertisements.

Sounds good, but the RB26 is twinturbo'd stock. Unless you're upgrading to bigger/better twins.

Well if I wanna make 600hp Im definitely gonna need "bigger/better twins".... which btw sounds really wrong.

My problem right now is that, while Im researching, Im finding that its almost impossible to get the engine that I want (I want the R34's RB26DETT), so I might have to settle for the R32's.... *sigh*. Once I get this thing built, I'll probably drive it for a year or two, then completely rebuild it, and put it into storage for future generations, so I really wanna do this right. Maybe when Im like 85 I'll sell it for millions of dollars in the Barret-Jackson 2067th annual car auction.

anyone know if its even possible to get an R34 RB26DETT engine over here?

Nice writeup, gave me a good idea of what sort of lines to follow when I get mine. I don't think i'll need 600 HP but it's very impressive to hear that sort of power rolling down the road beside you. GL with the project.

Ok guys, update on part of my plan. Just trying to dial in budgeted expenses etc. Feel free to correct my pricing where Im wrong. Kinda cool how my guestimates where almost exactly right

Stage Three (Good Job, Steady Income, Aprox. 2 year Span)

1. Buy New Car for Daily Driving
- No More Than $1500 for a POS car
2. Strip down 240SX to frame, Media Blast, Paint, and Rebuild (Full Resto)
- $???? <~~~Not sure of price, mostly time input for stripping etc.
3. Re-Upholster Interior (carpeting, seats, headliner)
- All Leather Interior/Labor For Install = $1,200
4. Buy RB26 Clip And Any Other Parts Required for Swap
- Low Mile Engine + ECU/Harness/Etc = Aprox. 7,000
5. Tear Down RB26 and Replace Internals with Racing Parts
- NISMO Oil Pump = $360
- NISMO Fuel Pressure Regulator = $125
- NISMO 2WAY LSD = $250
- Carillo H Beam Rods = $1,452
- OEM Water Pump $169
- Gaskets - $275
- RB Motor Mounts for 240 S Chassis = $350
- Koyo Alum. Radiator = $320
- Stage 5 Drag Racing Clutch Kit = $495
6. Twin Turbo the RB26 (Fab up custom parts where necessary)
-Dual GT40 Turbo's ($1,675 x2) = $3,350
-Greddy Intercooler = $1,121
7. Assemble RB26 and Place into Car
- Lots of Wrench Time
8. Pray I Don't Kill Myself
---------------------------------------------
Total Budget: $18,000
Used So Far: 17,967 <~~~Haha, $33 off by guessing, damn Im good!

Actually Im pretty far off when you consider that I still need the following:

- New Chamshafts
- New Cam Sprockets
- New Belts
- New Alternator
- Paint/body work materials
- New Lifters, rockers, springs, etc for engine rebuild
- Prolly a million other things Im missing cuz Im a newb

If I remeber correctly, the stock mounts (or just pick up some Nismo mounts) will bolt right up with some fab work. Personally, I have no clue how much fab work is needed. I saw a video of a guy who had to make his own mounts, so maybe I am wrong. If I knew where that thread was, I'd post it...... I'll look around right quick.
