So im debating on either getting a 240sx, 91-94 or a celica 90-93... any opinions on which is better? Im after quicker 1/4th mile time without any engine swamps and comfort... I know those 2 dont really go well together but any suggestions on which I should get? ( Im also 18 so insurance is a major factor) I have about 5g's to buy and drop into one of them...

if you want a safe car thats reliable but has moderate power - get the celica.
((safe factor))
if you want a unsafe car (rain, snow..) with moderate power that is reliable - get the 240 - ((fun factor))

insurance on both will be about the same

240 over celica hands down. i drove a celica one time...didn't like anything about it; the interior isn't as good (wear on the interior is a factor of course...but that has nothing to do with the model) the performance of the 240 is much better on dry pavement...and i actually prefer FR to FF for snow driving...you're going to want snow tires in the winter for either and if you find yourself without steering in an FF car, youre fucked, with RWD you can at least turn the car if you need to avoid something. plus its just plain more fun to slide around and save tires :0

plus the 240 is just plain beautiful compared to the celica...ick

you can get the celica and swap in a 3sgte and still be reliable. but its still not as fun as driving a 240sx. i had both and i prefer my s13 over my 5th gen (90-94) celica. both cars can be modded its just that there's not much aftermarket for 5th gen celicas. best you can do for suspension is spring strut combo, strut bars, sway bars, and bushings. there's also the possibility of doing a 5sfte or 4afte. its all up to you.

I'm assuming this is going to be your first car. Get the celica (FWD) since Beginner Driver+ RWD=Disaster. Get used to driving first, then go get a better RWD car, which you will appreciate way more because i guarantee your first car will get damaged somehow.

actully it will be my 3rd car, celica had too many miles so engine blew and i didnt have time to change it so I bought an 86 camry to get me to work and back for gas mileage, but I cant stand how slow it is and getting passed by semis going up hill lol

thanks, I live in So-cal so snow and rain really isnt a problem for me :thumbsup , so which year 240sx would be best? 89-93 models i believe are the same right?
well in that case no question! lol
yes, besides some minor stuff 89-93 s13's are all basically the same. i'm sure theres a write-up about chassis differences on this site, but i haven't looked for them.

i currently drive both a 93 240 and a 95 celica.

to tell you the truth the celica was never made to be a fast 1/4 mile car. if you do the basic bolt ons for suspenion it is a very fun car to auto x. but passing power and engine mods are hard and a pain in the ass to do.

the 240 to me is a lot quicker and fun around a few corners and the after market support is insanely available.

if possible get the celica for a daily driver and the 240 for a weekend beater car.

im just wondering... dont mean to flame ... but how are you going to come onto a 240sx forum and as this question lol But i agree with vspec15 about the whole first car thing the last thing we need is another wrecked 240 :( either way GL. ( if you promise to treat it nice and not like a grain of rice get a 240 )

didnt really read the posts other than yours but id say it all depends if you have to worry about harsh climate changes and what not and what you really want..... and it depends on the celica were talking about.... is it the awd turbo? 2.2? 1.6? what? 1.6 is terrible, the 2.2 is fairly quick but unreliable, the 2.0 turbo is 200 hp and fairly decent, but at the same time its heavy due to awd so its not quite as fast as the mr2 with that engine. the ka motor is deffinately better than the 1.6 and 2.2 but a 240 is rwd so that may be a little much in the rain or snow... oh and the ka is quick/faster than both the 1.6 and 2.2, but obviously not the 2.0 turbo. 5g's will however get you any of those cars, but the 2.0 is hard to get...
hope this helps...
oh to answer your question no
89-90 ka24e
91-94 ka24de
figure it out plus minor cosmetic differences
watch your years guys...

if you're going for a turbo celica might as well look at the 89-93 eclipse GS-x turbo awd. you can't compare a 240 with a celica cuz its just 2 whole different cars. fwd celica against rwd 240sx. both pretty cheap (celica non-turbo fwd) but i think if you get lucky for 5000 and if you find one you could get a turbo awd celica or eclipse which would be quite quick and a good winter car but the best deal around would be 240sx (dont forget, 4 wheel disc brake and independent suspension all around from the factory, plus displacement)

Hi , well having owned a celica 92(2.2 litre 5sfte) and a 240sx 93(2.4 Ka24de),here i what i have combined for you:
Celica GT 92:
Pros:
1) Very nice comfortable ride, stable
2) Good for beginners not used to car reactions
3)Toyota cars are Very reliable cars !
4)It looks awsome
5)Affordable

Cons:
1)Not alot of aftermarket parts for ST,GT and GTS mostly parts are for Gt4(3sgte)
2)Rides performance not as good as looks
3)Expensive parts
4)If u like DIY and swaps Not many can be done on this most comon swap is (3sgte) only SWAP?
5)In place where snow exists RUST!!! on the frame rail (NOT STRUt Towers tho )

240x 1993:
Pros:
1)Great looking and Handling
2)Affordable
3)MANY aftermarket parts
4)Many swaps available (From Silvia to skyline to Supra to 350 :p )
5)Very Stable and Confortable ride

Cons:
1) Respond differently then a Fwd car (Snow and Rain)
2)Car interior space not really made for 4 people
3)Rust on Strut towers and frame rail very comon (snow and Rain areas)
.... TRYIN to think of some but DAM I love this CAR!!!
:p

OK so someone correct me if they think i am wrong or wanna add any to these! Also i wanted to say that me and my pal built his celica he spent 5000$ on his car and no where was it as fast a 240sx with 5000$ spent on it!
Its just not the same car! FWD and RWD are completely different! Depends on alot of things actually its ur pick! If u wanna go with looks but dont really care abt performance id say celica cause its cheaper! but if u like mods id DEFinetly say 240sx i mean u can do anything to it :D 2JZ swap COME ON!!!! :D hahahah U can prob do all the same mods to a 240sx u can to a Celica a for suspension and all but NOt engine! Depends on ur preference actually! They are just not the same cars!

Hope i could help ya a bit
Phil

All Trac Celica is sick, id get one over a 240 just for the rareness factor.

WHOA watch out he drives a RWD car?!??!?!? Get out of the way, he'll crash it second he leaves the driveway.....:rotflmao
Chill out dude, RWD is safer, I think even more safe then FWD (understeer is scary). If it was so unsafe then car manufactures wouldnt even use RWD.

Whats with these crappy threads lately? Whats next, 240 v godzilla?

Some celicas have 4 wheel disc brakes ;) GT and GTS do for sure

5th gen celica's are fugly, the front is straight but the rear end looks terrible, the tailights look like mutated 4th gens(my dad had one). If anything I would get a 6th gen(my gf has one), they are dead sexy. Plus you can always do a GT4 conversion on it. That is if you didn't want a 240.
