Ok, here is the situation. I was walking in a junkyard helping my brother with geting a wiring harness for his OBD0-OBDI "mini-me" swap (Honda people....). Sp anyways, he told me he found a SR20DET in a Sentra or something. I want to pick up this motor and I know where someone is selling a S13 hatch (from what I understand) shell. What I want to know is if this SR20 will bolt up to the KA transmission or would it be better to shell out a couple grand for the front clip or motor set. I also heard/read of a kit that you can buy that allows you to mount a 300ZX transmission to a SR20 and if that will work with this too.

so.....

we do realize that this sentra probably has a USDM sr20de in it right? I would highly doubt that is has a FWD sr20det from a jdm sentra(bluebird). The idea of converting this motor into a RWD motor and swapping it into a s13 shell that you dont even have yet should be quickly forgotten. Even if this was a JDM FWD SR20 motors, it would still not be worth the headache to convert it to RWD. It would also cost just as much to buy a s13/s14 SR20 motorset.

The KA transmission will work on a SR motor if you swap the KA bellhousing for the SR unit. Also, There is a adapter plate that allows the z32 vg30 transmission to be used on the sr20/KA24/RB20 engines.

if you can get it cheap, sell it for profit.

or get a rwd n/a sr, and put the fwd inernals in it.

Ok, then can someone tell me the difference between a JDM Bluebird SR and the S13 red top? How about the number that is on the block (if I can find it)? I had a buddy that is familiar with SR20's look at it and he said it looked just like one.

Well ill state the obvious first.

The bluebird sr20det is a AWD engine which has a transverse or horizontal position in the engine bay. The S13 RWD version is a longitudinal layout in the engine bay. The USDM version of the SR series motor was the only FWD design.

Next, The RWD SR20DET has DFI or Direct Fire Ignition. There is NO distributor.

ok so after some typing and re-reading your question i came to this simple conclusion:

Is there a TURBO on the motor??

I think your still missing the fact that there is a SIMILAR version of the japanese SR20DET that was produced here in america.

The SR20DE which in looks is similar to the japanese version came in several USDM Nissan and Infiniti cars.

Some examples are the Nissan Sentra, 200SX , NX2000 and the Infiniti G20. If your seeing something in common its all of the "20" in the names. Nissan and other foreign car companies use displacement to name their vehicles.

only way its worth a save is if you have stumbled across a gtir engine that some stupid fuck let go to the junkyard when he wrecked the car. otherwise dont bother, you can buy bluebird front cuts all day long for less than $1500.

Yea, the turbo is there. It is set in horizontally, so I guess that makes it the AWD or FWD SR20. Let me ask, is there a difference in the valve cover? This one has the standard red valve cover. I'll try to get pictures of it next time I see it.

if it is indeed a turbo motor, then im sure with some rigging and finding of the right parts you can make it work....or just resell it to some sentra guys and put that money towards a RWD setup...
ditto. if it is indeed a sr20det motor then i would pick it up if the price is right. Then resell it for a RWD motorset.

I mean i would personally build the KA because the SR is overrated but... :):) hahah opinions, asshole, you know.

What do you mean "opinions, asshole"?...... But anyways, yea I thought about buying it and just selling it to some Sentra owner or something. Think anyone will buy it over EBay? Or maybe I can find a 200SX or Sentra shell to drop it in and sell the car for like 3 grand or something. But thanks for the advise and I think I am going to get it and sell it, depending on how much he lets it go for.

Sorry for a late response, been busy. So I thought about this SR and I'm thinking about not to get it. I use to know someone with a 200SX until he sold it. Maybe I can do some fab work and drop it into a Honda... I kid of ocurse.

one completley obvious way to tell if thats a JDM FWD sr, the intercooler is top mounted, not a side-mount like the RWD SR
