As you guys know I'm getting ready for my rb20 swap and I'm pumped. I've wrenched on cars since I was like 5 years old and this is the first big project I have done in the import world. I have built numerous small blocks for my friends camaros, but never and Import. The rb20 gives me enough power to make my 240 run well, and still provide decent fuel econemy. I'm going to be driving this car 50+ miles one way to college in the next few years. I'm cuirous, how do you guys like your rb20? What are some things that you would suggest that I do to make it more fun?

i just finished my swap last week and i absolutely love it so far. best mod i've done to my car yet. as far as making it more fun start out with intake, full 3 inch exhaust, fmic, just those little things. i personally dont plan to push my stock turbo past maybe 11-12 psi but thats just me. i too am using mine for daily driving so a lot of miles a day and so i want to keep it reliable. i'll probably run stock turbo for a while, this thing is already extremely fast as it is and i dont really see much point in pushing it too far on stock turbo. i'm just gonna get exhaust, intercooler, and intake as i stated and possibly crank the boost up a bit. other than that maybe get an safc to tune a bit if you'd like but its not really 100% necessary.

oh, almost forgot. i would recommend tracking down an lsd. i cant wait to get one in my car, the open isnt all bad but i can imagine having lsd will make this car so much more fun to drive as well as more competitive when i take it to the strip.

only other advice i can really offer is to do all the little things that you can while the motor is outside the car such as rear main seal (can be had from the same tophatperformance.com that i showed you earlier), thermostat (300zx twin-turbo), and a clutch of course.

oh and pearl240...your post is completely ignorant and doesnt belong on these forums, let alone in this thread. im sorry if driftx and i decided to be a little different and get a motor that actually requires a little skill to install rather than joining in with all the jdm-fanboy douche-bags and going sr20. (no offense to sr20 owners in general, but even you guys know there are a lot of guys among your crowd that are morons...i'm sorry its just how it is)

a stock rb20 is one of the funnest cars ive ever driven, and the 28mpg highway milage thing is good as well.

for the money you would spend to put that 20 aka (turd) in your car you could drop a nice ls1 in there and scream....i have a sr, and i would put a damn b-series in my car before a 20..sr or ls... if your gonna drop a rb.. at least do a 25 or 26

RB20 are very good motors. This is why I'll be doing another fully rebuilt RB20 maybe this winter or next year!

+1

Mine is having a bit of trouble being that the guy before obviosly took a lot of shortcuts and wrecked the car prior to me buying it, so i'm fixing all the little stuff on it. I've yet to drive it more then 20+ feet at a time.... :(

but other then that, i'm freakin' ready to get this thing movin' and kick some sr ass. (some.not all)

Ok pearl, find me a complete ls1 swap for 1800. Ok thank you, goodbye.

Thanks for the replys guys, everyone seems to have liked it for an all around motor. Decent mileage, decent power, still uses the smaller tranny, so less weight. It's going to be a blast.

I plan to do a full writeup, or as much so as I can, but the swap isn't going to happen until the fall. I don't want to start now, run out of cash and do it half-assed. I want to do it right the first time. Also, in the fall I have access to my high school automotive room and have a ton of cool stuff like a rail hoist, tranny jacks etc.

you're a dumbass pearl. the RB20 makes comparable power to the SR for less money. Looks like you spent to much on the SR.

drove a stock RB20 coupe last week when I was building a cage for a RB20 S14. I loved it. I'd be content to buy one, freshen it up, slap it in and never modify it. Beautiful motor IMO.

and see thats the truth, they are terrible fun and as long as you mantain them never let you down.
ive a friend who's logged 40kmi (more like 50kmi, now) on his rb20 s14 swap, the car is flawless starts EVERY time and is a blast to drive...certianly not the fastest thing but it is too much fun to just drive around and attack curves in.

My wore out sohc had maybe 75 hp left in it. So I think 200 will be enough haha.

I sold my wheels for 600 bucks and 4 teardrop wheels with new tires and 2 steel wheels.

Car Price: 600 Bucks
Cost to get it running: 100 bucks
Cost of exhaust: 170 bucks
Sold Wheels: -600 bucks
New tires and added sleeper appeal: 100 bucks

So I have 60 bucks in the whole running car. I wouldn't say that's a bad deal at all for a sold chassis that runs.

New pic's of the car.

I personally love my 20. I've had two motors now and the only reason the first one blew was due to a fault of my own. The first motor never failed and this one hasn't either. I will tell you though if you can add a Z32 maf it makes a difference in the power band. The stock MAF is already in the upper range of it's use with minor mods. Once I installed the Z32 MAF it made the car fell a lot better...

my car made nearly 400whp on a stock bottom end with shite compression with about 17psi of boost...was tons of fun.
