Hello my name is John I'm new to the forums. I recently bought a 91 240 for 1900. The guy I bought it from had replaced the engine with one from a 95 version and also added a few bolt on such as short ram and headers. He also installed a short throw and did a battery relocation. Heres the thing I took the test drive and it ran fine other that I could feel it needed a tune up. The guy also told me he has never had any problems out of it. So I was like I'll take it. Well, it ran well for a about two weeks and then trouble. I discovered that the car had a short some where in it plus the alternater was bad. Also it developed a slight timing problem. And I can't figure if the car was worth the work I got to do to it. Just thought I'd ask and see what you guys thought.

well, for me its a good deal. i payed $2700 for an 89 that needed work, SOHC that runs funny, and all the problems on a car that you could ever imagine. but i still love the thing to death.

The body is in good condition so is the interior. The guy before me replaced a quarter panal. Had a few people listen to it they think it could just be a vac. problem or just my distributer cap. I really don't know myself. Only thing i'm sure of is that there is a short somewhere and when it idles it wants to die out or just does. Also it runs a little prime. So thats why I think it's the timing. The guy did tell me before i bought it the fuel injectors my be bad. Didn't really look into it.

well blue book for one is like 1550, BUT he put a newer engine in and some other goodies. i would say it is a good deal, i still woulda heckled him down to 1700

but those all sound like simple fixes. might cost a little somethin but its all stuff you can do

yeah heck of a good deal if the body is straight and it has a few small problems, which isn't a bad thing!

it lets you tear into the car a little and get your hands dirty, which makes you appreciate the car all the more. I don't trust a man who can't do a little bit of wrenching who's in the tuning scene :)

worth it. paid 2k for mine a year ago with good clutch, intake, and umm gasp BONDOd doors. Sounds like a vac leak to me check the short rams hoses. clean you MAF get a lil diode light for checking the injectors to see if there firing good. and a tune up cap, rotor, NGK plugs, and wires, set base timing if that dont fix it then you gots to really get dirty. good luck and have fun.

if the idle strange and it is about to die at times, it could be an O2 sensor. I know that doesn't fix the timing issue. but I had a hardbody with a KA24.. it would idle and shake and almost die then the RPMs would raise back and flucuate then idle and almost die again.. new O2 sensor fixed it.

yea man i think its an alright deal, i mean anyone else would've offered more just to know they have a 240 they can project. deals like that go so fast and its not like a 16 year old car is always gonna be 100% working. my 95 seems all good but theres still other shit that needs to be done, it just takes lots of time and money.
