I am wondering if this has ever happened to anyone, and if so how did you fix it. I went to shift into reverse like I have done a thousand times before, but the shift lock won't dissable. I pressed the break gently fressed the thumb button on side of manual shifter but it won't shift out of park???? I hear it trying, I even took the cover off to see if the cable was moving, looks like its trying but it won't get out of park. How irritating is that when your late to work. Needles to say I don't want to go to my mechanic if its something simple I can fix myself. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Wheres shift lock fuse?

I see many fuses for A.C. ignition radio lights etc etc but no shift lock fuse. Seems like the release button isn't engaging all the way, ya know the button you depress with your thumb when shifting into reverse. Any thoughts?

I think your on to something with the brake sensor, thats what the guy at my local auto parts store suggested, but dam if I can't locate or see any sensor. Although I do hear a click but that could be anything. The fact that everything else works for example over drive, the little lamp that lights up the shift box etc is all still working, I am very confused. I feal I will have to turn to my mechanic yet again for something I should be able to fix myself.

Learning to fix cars is like learning how to read women. You only learn how they work with practice and experimentation. Though, I still can't figure out women. Anyway, the sensor should be located above the brake pedal so that when you depress the pedal the button on the switch is released telling the computer that its ok to let the driver shift out of park.

Most cars are put together nearly the same way and the only way to learn cars is to make mistakes.

Ok, personal experience also that there is sometimes a sensor that fails on the brake pedal itself. I don't even own a 240, I'm just doing research for my future project and helping out when I think I have something useful to add. Didn't realise that there was a common problem related to this.
