Hey everyone. Just got my new 89 240SX and its fully loaded.

Do any of you know just how ABS affects drifting? I've heard some debates from a 350Z forum (350z has ABS) and most have said that it doesn't make too much of a difference, but it does kick in too soon to brake drift correctly, but other than that it is fine.

Does anyone here have any expirence or more information on this? I do also already know that it can be disconnected, so any other info is great. ;)

Thanks.

ABS is not much of a factor in drifting. It doesn't affect your E-Brake at all and most breaking drifts are mostly initiated by weight shift, not by locking up the wheels.

In fact if you're not used to driving without ABS it can be really dangerouse causing you to lock up your front wheels and careening off the road.

i would disable it myself

do you live in an area that gets snow and ice? is this a track car or a dd? are you only doing drifting?

if its a dd and u live in at area that gets snow i would lean towards keeping it unless u have lots of experience driving cars without abs in the snow if your planing to do road racing or auto x even i would suggest removing it. personally I despise abs on the track or in any sort of motor sport but it can be a real life saver in slippery conditions. but i would still disable it for drifting all you need it to do is be in a feint then ur abs kick when u try to flick it back and get on the brakes which leads to you crashing

go check under your hood and see.... i think all SEs came with ABS (excluding verts, which never had ABS), not sure though...
not true. it was a factory option. the ABS and LSD came as options, and were a package together, IIRC.

i dont see why anyone would want ABS at all. it wont help you stop any faster unless you're a tard. but that's just my opinion. i've had one ABS equipped vehicle. my first one. i'll never have another as long as i'm driving. im totally convinced that ABS will not make you stop any faster at all.

its a aluminum box in the righthand corner close to the fire wall.. and ur break lines go into it.. its kinda hard to miss.
Yup...follow your brake lines, if they just go into your brake master cylinder from your calipers, then you don't have abs. You can disable abs by pulling the fuse according to somethign I read on Maxima.org (I say this since I never tried doing it, nor do I know if there's one in a 240). Oh well.

there also might be an electrical connector on the actual ABS control unit. that's how my dad's old s-10 was when we disconnected it's ABS system.
