hey guys thanks for checking this thread out, i got a 89 coupe shell and 100% want to put an SR in it a guy is selling his SR20DET to me for 1600 but theres a few problems i need to fix he told me the oil bolt connection to the turbo has a leak, and a bearing in the block needs to be replaced, hks turbo needs to be rebuilt, or recondition, im still doing my research and studying how an SR work what is on the SR and how to mount it to the car but im not sure how much these stuff would cost me to fix because if its close to enough around 2k i can just go buy one off somewhere. If anyone could help me and tell me what is the oil bolt connection to the turbo has a leak do ? is that the turbo line that needs to be replace? and how much is it to replace bearings on the block ? i searched but i wasnt sure which part is the bearing. and rebuilding a turbo i need to buy a kit right ? i search somewhere and i read about buying a kit or something , i am so thankful to anyone who can help me out here! thank a lot!! and have a great evening! :thumbsup


ps. haha just wondering, do you guys think its worth buying this SR20DET with 40k mile on and has the problem i listed for $1600?

1) The oil feed going to the turbo has several places it could be leaking, but the most common place is the copper o-ring that goes on the banjo bolt. Its about a $0.50 part and you can find it most anywhere brand new. The hard part is replacing it, as the banjo on the turbo is nearly impossible to reach without taking the entire turbo off.

2) Any bearings in the block require disassembly and reassembly of the entire engine. If you're replacing one bearing, you have to replace them all. So you're looking at new crank bearings and new rod bearings which may or may not require machine work, but either way will add several hundred dollars to the whole process.

3) Turbos that need rebuilding should be sent to ATP turbo or Precision Turbo to get rebuilt. This isn't really something you should do at home.

CONCLUSION: Don't buy the engine from him. Save yourself a ton of grief and take your car to a reputable shop and either buy a complete front clip and just swap everything over, or have them do it for you.
