Here is my plan

I have a 2002 toyota tundra right now and i want to buy a nissan 240sx and get a engine swap/some body works done to make it look nice.

Problem: this costs a lot of money and i need a car to drive EVERYDAY. and something that will be VERY reliable like my truck.

My Solution: I plan on saving some money, and slowly working on the car by myself/with friends. basically save some cash, buy a S14 and let it sit in my garage until i save for the next upgrade.

Reasoning: I want to learn everything i can about my car so that i know how to fix something that goes wrong and not have to trust some bozo to do it for me.

Plan: 1) Buy S14
2) Take out Engine/Tranny (dunno how ima do this yet but its in my plan)
3) Engine Time ( I am not settling for anything other than RB26DETT)
4) Start body work (front end conversion, tail light conversion) ( either R33 or R34)
5) Start with Interior (get it lookin NICE)
6) Brakes
7) Wheels/Rims
8) Paint

I realize this sounds like a lot of work but im up to it , when im done i want this to be looking like a show car. This is going to be a Show/Race Car (not entirely daily driver.....but i wanna show my baby off) also there will be loans in this im not just ganna go work and get 20 Grand + so some steps will take longer than others i was thinking taking a loan out for the Car/Engine completeing these (while paying off the loan) and then working and saving for the conversion/rims/wheels/brakes/ misc. parts. I can pick up an s14 for about 5-6 grand and a RB26DETT Clip for about the same price. i plan on buying the car/engine and selling the KA engine that the car came with as well as all other internals and EVENTUALLY my truck to help pay off the loan if not entirely, then faster.

What I Need From You:

Simple ... i am new to this so i need some insight on whether this is a good idea or not... i also need the names of some shops with good rep with clips/motor sets in the california/west coast area (i have a trailer and am willing to drive to pick up an engine) also i will need some people who ahve done this kind of thing before just to get some info about how to go about doing somthing like this. I plan to make DETAILED write ups for this forum so people know what they're getting into and how to go about getting what they're looking for with a FULL EXTENSIVE write up at the end including pictures so you guys can see what i've done. mind you i have very little experience with car/car parts but im doing this to further learn and get experience. One last thing i need from you guys ... SUPPORT i can't do this with people flaming my thread and telling me what an idiot i am and i don't think this forum is like that but i know some people in general can be dicks.

Thanks for reading this also i just wanted to Thank you guys for any help you may give me.

Criticism is expected and is helpful. But only when you have proof to back up your statement so if you want to criticize me .... fine... plz do .... just back up your statement with facts.

EDIT * Feel Free to talk to me on AIM ( Danbeesays ) or PM me with ideas *

search, and search and search! I've seen countless ppl say the same thing, and never even buy a S14, let alone a motor swap. You will find an ABUNDANCE of info on this site, and if you TRULY run into a prob, i'm sure we can solve the problem. Whatever you "think" you will be into this swap...add 5-10k onto the final price. Honestly your best bet is going to be to buy someones project car already swapped, and customize it to your liking. I found a steal on my RB25 S14...they are out there. I bought mine for 7500, and now have close to 3k in mods since purchase, and I haven't even touched suspension or paint/body. I think the motor is finally where I want it etx. Do a search, open a word pad, copy anything you think is relevant or helpful, and organize it. The get a "project plan" and stick to it...dont skimp out on things to "get r done" just do it right the first time

Um, You along with 30 other idiots out there are just plain stupid.

first of all.

Rb26dett = 4wd engine. Good luck converting your "Soon" to be s14 into 4wd.

second of all, You seem like one of those hot heads from the honda group that just watched the fast and the furious or tokyo crap drift or w/e the fu ck its called, and all you want to do is stupid ass shit.

hahahahaha you sir are an idiot. I don't think Dan's plan will ever happen, but this is the most retarded post ever.

Oh, and Dan, don't make your car hideous by doing the front and rear R33/34 conversion. Oh, and taking out a loan on a car project is really stupid, especially if your age is correct at 18. That is if you even end up getting an s chassis...

RB26DETT is not a 4WD engine, only the trans and diff is AWD There have been quite a few people that have done the 26 swap, some even keeping the TT set up. Thats like saying the Chevy small block is a 4wd engine because it was in 4wd trucks.

And yes, taking a loan out on a project car of this magnitude isnt very smart. What happens if you catch a snag or worse yet first time you drive it, you pop the motor and your left paying for a broken car that you will probably need to take out another loan to fix.

If your going to take out a loan on all this, why not just wait, save up a decent amount for a down payment or what have you and find a motorex legal R33 GTR. Then the motor swap is done, body conversion is done (and alot less tacky looking) Youll have a really cool car with half the work...and just maybe a little more money.

This is exactly what every other person who has gotten into the 240 scene in the last 2 years has said.
My opinion:
1) S13 is easier to come by and more worth it unless you find an s14a.
2) Taking out the engine before you even have another one is stupid, especially when you just said you need a DD.
3) RB26DETT isn't worth the money it costs. RB25DET is about $2000 less and can make just as much power or more with the right stuff.
4) S14.5 is hideous and if you are 18 you can't afford an R34 conversion.
5) Waisting money on a custom interior is stupid unless its a show car that you can make money from.
6) Brakes and suspension should be FIRST before engine.
7) Wheels are expensive and, again, you are 18.
8) After all this ^ you won't have a dime left to eat with much less get a decent paint job which means that this has the potential to be a good project gone bad with a zip-tied body kit, broken RB swap, and $50 paint job.

Find an s13 with a complete running SR swap and get happy. Its cheaper, won't take as much time, and might actually happen.

there should be a rule where you have to enter a vin# of an actual S chassis b4 you can leave the begginners section.

you should get a car first then realize how hard it is going to rape your ass for cash before it does anything cool

me? crackhead?

if the internet was a living room there would be multiple burning hot pockets flying at your face. and if you've ever tried to eat a hot pocket, mere seconds after it came out of the micro wave, and dripped some on your hand.. not only is your mouth going through atomic fission, you might as well cut your hand off since there is no way to remove hot, bbq lava safely from your hand

theres an invention referred to as a napkin...you could substitute it with paper towels, TP, or tissues. Also using newspaper may work. Normal people also know better then to tear into something that is fresh from heating. Thats like touching a stove top, right after its turned off and assuming since the cooking is done the surface is cool. :dancingna

and I think he was calling the OP a crackhead

Any Skyline conversion's going to look like ass. If you were smart, you would stick with the Tundra and save up for college. Or sell the Tundra and get a cheap/good condition 240 and save the rest for college

You sound like me when I first got into the S-chassis scene. These guys could have been nicer about it, but they are right. There is no reason to get an RB26 if you're going to build the engine anyway. SR20DET, KA24DE, RB25, CA18, LSX, 1JZ.... the list of more sensible choices goes on, and you can build any of those motors to have more power than an RB26DETT. The only difference will be that you'll have a crowd of JDM fanbois around your car if you get the 26, and I don't think that's what you're after.

I wanted an RB26DETT swap, and now that I've done the research, I'm building my KA and trying to hit 600whp. When I hit that goal, I won't be anywhere near the cost of the RB26 swap alone. I understand that is part of the mystique, but in the end that's all you're going to get out of it.

As to the conversions, the R33 and the S15 front conversions are easy enough, but I wouldn't do anything else. It's just too much money for too little return. Personally, I think any sort of skyline exterior conversion is for poseurs.

hot lava sucks period. cool down time is not fast enough if youre on the go which is why they make hot (lava) pockets.

^^^ hes right, we are a bunch of dicks. but the point gets across. someone should bust out a skyline with a ka-t. that would be sick.. kinda..

Wow...thats same fucking dream there. If you cant afford something, taking a loan out is not gonna be the fucking answer for it. Save the money and do it without you throwing money away at a fucking interest rate. Take this from somebody who just went thru this crap. I financed my car shit with credit cards. Roughly $22k later on an engine and suspension build...I sold my S14 for $13.5k and paid off my cards/closed the accounts.
