I had Redline in my first tranny and switching over to Royal Purple with the second. Under normal operating temperatures they seem to perform the same. The Royal Purple definitely feels alot more sketchy when the engine is warming up to the OT. After it is at OT Redline felt a little smoother, but nothing drastic. Like stated above, more double clutches DEFINITELY with RP, ecspecially in reverse.

Moral of the story: Redline > Royal Purple IMO

I noticed using RP when the tranny is cold its super notchy. But its gets smoother if I drive for like an hour or more.
But even then its still crappy. And yes, duballstar you defiantly have to have your double clutching/rev matching down when using RP. Its basically like driving an un-synchronized transmission.

i put rp in my tranny and havent had any probs. when i put in my j30 rear diff i used a regular brand gear oil and it slipped.(meaning only one wheel spun) i drained it and put rp in it and now both spin.(like a proper lsd)

This isn't the first time I've heard good things about Amsoil. Good article. I think I will definitely check it out next time I change my gear oil. It's especially noteworthy about the RP, which I currently run. I wonder if the same or similar is true for their engine oil... Yikes!

I've been running their engine oil for about 5 years and have yet to have a problem. Plus its purple so you can't beat it. They just raised the price of the engine oil to $8.50 around where I live. I used to be able to get quarts for about $6.00 :crazyrant

I think I will still stay away from RP in general, if they have trouble with gear oil viscosity, I don't want to take that chance with the engine oil, I will just have to order Amsoil.
