Hey everyone.

Well before you bite my head off i did to some searching, but didnt come up with much.

A little backround. Im trying to find a new home for the yamaha built 3.0L DOHC v6 engine. These engines were put in the Taurus SHOs from 89-95. Built by yamaha for ford, these little 3.0s are very strong (bottom end is forged, takes 500hp without a problem). I know its hard to believe but they are quick cars (run high 14s, low 15s). The 5-speed paired up to the 220hp high revving yamaha is alot of fun. They are a unique car. The major problem i have is its extremly hard to build a drag car out of it (suspension wise, they can really be built). The engine has the potential, no doubt about it, its just everything around it (FORD). the entire drivetrain has to be built (halfshafts, quaife ATB, etc, etc), even then, anything over 300lb-ft torque shreds the teeth off third gear. Holeshot they have nothing, even on heavily modified SHOs 2.0xx is an extremly good 60' time.
Well, what im getting at is i need to find a RWD platform to mate up to the SHO engine, see what the yamaha will really do. I looked into the rx-7 but im more of a nissan man (93 sentra, a few mods). I have the chance to get a 90 240sx for very little.

First question; is the engine compt. large enough to support a standard-sized v6? I did hear that someone put a 350 in? Obviously the MMs and tranny Mounts and exhaust would have to be fabbed, but thats the least of my concerns (right now) ;)
the SHO engine weighs about 450 lb dry, with all accesories. Would this through off the weight distribution ratio? How heavy is the SOHC 2.4?
Does anyone have pics of the engine bay?
Okay, has anyone ever swapped a t-5 ford trans? I would love any info about this. Thats what i would use, with some fabbing it will bolt up to a SHO engine.
Hows is the stock rear end? Can it handle 250+ hp?

What would a 90 240sx run stock in the 1/4m?
what is the weight?
How do they handle, stock?

thanks in advance!

btw-here is a SHO engine:

To answer some of your original questions:
My 89 weights somewhere around 2750 with an AT.
An MT KA24E prolly runs around 16.5 in the 1/4.. AT might be up to 17.0.

If you need more info I ordered a shop manual the other day. I can get you specs from that. PM me.

There is one major problem! the yamaha engine is front wheel drive would not work in a 240 maybe put it in a ford probe, focus, ford escort. my friend has a mazda eunos engine in his escort.
lmao... don't talk... please...

Areis has a a small block in his S14..

It should fit.. A friend of mine just completed his VG swap.. he droped a N/A 300ZX V6 in his S13... there are alot of things you will have to think about fabbing or having fabed.. not only the obvious mounts exaust, but you will pretty much have to completely rewire the engine, and hella more shit...

The 240sx is by no means a drag car... The rear end will hold 250+ hp easily... but its not a drag racing suspension, and you would want to invest in a LSD since you 90' didnt come with one.

My buddy's KA powered 92 fastback ran a low 15sec. 1/4 and runs mid 15's reguarly..

The 240sx handles very well stock, its an awesome platform for pretty much anything...

FYI
its 10:00am in the morning and i went to bed at 9:00am after a long night of drinking.. excuse any of my mistakes...

what do you mean dont talk please?I didnt say it woundnt fit, he wants to put a front wheel drive engine in a rear wheel drive car. So if you think that is goin to happen then you dont need to talk. He wanted to know what car to put that engine into. I wouldn,t even mess with a fwd car anyway unless it was a srt-4anyway.

not to mention that SHO motor seems to be mounted transversely, whereas you will have to do it longitudinally in a 240.

Why bother? I know it's "cool" to have something different, but theres a lot easier, less expensive, more reliable, and just as fast, ways to get the 240 downt the 1/4. Namely RB25DET / RB26DET

obviously the SHO engine would have to be mounted longitudinally for RWD.

Yoda dude,
All the cars you mentioned are to small or have FWD. I want a RWD setup.

Well Id like to see low 13s eventually on an N/A 3.2L block. This is just planning right now. I donno. w'ell see if i can get the 240sx and work from there. Obviously its going to be a pain, but may be possible. Know of any other possiblities if the 240 doesnt work out?

Wuss,
Yeah i know, I know. Its just i already have a built 3.2L SHO motor sitting in my basement, and i dont really NEED it done fast. Just a project to work on over the winter. Also, the SHO engine is very reliable. They rarly suffer from serious mechanical failure. I have 200K+ on my winter beater SHO and she still runs the 1/4m in 15.2@93mph. They can take (and Love) high rpms. A stock motor makes power upwards of 7K. and thats all motor :supercool
what would the rb25de crank out? 1/4m?

thanks for all the information

RB25DET's are able to put out close to, if not more then 500 hp on stock internals, although I wouldn't feel comfortable pushing those kind of numbers on a daily driver.

Even at approximately 400ish crank hp, that would be enough to theoretically get past the 1/4 somewhere in the 12's. And the RB25det block and drivetrain are proven rocksteady.

Good luck if you decide to go ahead with the project.

lol, just because its a FWD motor doesn't mean it can't be mounted as a RWD motor, the hardest part would be makeing or having made a conversion plate so you can put a RWD tranny on it...

Please don't talk to someone more knowledgeable then you like they are stupid... especially when you are wrong...

thanks for the support chris.

Wuss, Yes the 2.5L would most likly be an easier swap (MUCH easier). That doesnt really matter tho. Im not comparing motors. Im going to put the yamaha in something, whether it be the 240 or what. i do not need to hear about which swap is *easier*. A friend of mine has everything ill ever need when it comes to welding. This swap is not going to be expensive. Try to keep it simple (yah right) and take my time. I will keep you guys updated!

I need some engine bay pics!

tell me what angles you want the pics at and everythin and i'll take them... I have 2 cars... a 1990 with the SOHC in it and a 1993 with no motor in it... so i can take pretty much any pic you want...

drop a 88-93 mustang 5.0 drivetrain in it. Stroker, heads, cam + Single turbo = 1000+ horsepower. Ford 9 inch rear end, 32 point roll cage. 6 second et's.
