Here is my first attempt at night shots... and you can see where my REAL problem is with photography here haha. Phil, if you EVER get on AIM again I would really like to chat about photography. I really need to talk to SOMEONE about it haha.

If I could have gotten some better shots on the roof into that shop I would have. My camera (and I) are really bad at taking shots in a dark place focused on a brighter area. Hopefully soon I'll learn about all of this and learn to get better shots. I tried really hard to get some good stuff. I'm still working on the "photographer's eye" too haha. I always think something will turn out way cooler than it does.

Go back to that fountain, Set the shutter speed to about 1/25th and let the tripod do the rest. You can also use a bean bag as a camera holder if you have like a ledge you can set your camera on and other things that will hold your camera, A bean bag works really well to cradle the camera so it doesn't fall.

And that town looks almost identical to Freehold New Jersey, Where my ex lives..

It's a pretty cool town. The shots I got were of the very small downtown, which is one of the main reasons why I like it here.

I'll either figure out why this tripod is so weird or get a new one and take it out with me. I try to use stuff to brace myself or set my camera, but the biggest problem is doing that and seeing through the view finder. And my camera has a really hard time auto focusing on things at night. It will focus, then un-focus, focus, then un-focus, etc... I'm probably doing something wrong, but it drove me crazy hahaha. I'll set my ISO lower, too, next time. thanks for the hints so far guys!

And in manual mode, if I want to do longer exposure shots, should I do a higher or lower aperture?

Wow, ISO 100? I keep forgetting to change mine... it's been at 1600 since I got it haha. What effect does ISO have on the picture?

So taking pictures at the drift event with a really really high shutter speed I will need a high ISO?

Higher ISO is generally used for better lighting at night. You just have to balance out exposure with ISO settings. Biggest thing you can do is read some manuals and whatnot; they tend to offer some insight as to what does what.

No,

Ok here's a simple easy "Guide"

If its sunny outside or there's alot of bright lighting, then use a low iso 100, and use a fast shutter speed, Unless you want some panning shots, then use shutter priority and use a shutter speed around 1/200
If it's dark out and you need to take a photo of something that's like in a shadow or something, Use a super high iso and a long shutter speed.

Well, I had my ISO at either 400 or 800 throughout the day. I'll remember the lower ISO for the next event, which is actually in about a month. And then another 2 weeks after that haha. So hopefully by the time the last event before my school starts I will be good enough to get some amazing pictures. The soonest event will allow me to get into the same places I got and get the same epic shots as today. :heyhey

That is the link to the picture thread. There are only 162 shots I kept, but I did take around 1500 haha. I was surprised I only killed about 1.25 batteries. :thumbsup Check it out and tell me what I can do better! I'll hit you up sometime soon Phil. And why the hell aren't you ever on AIM? You gave me your screen name to IM you, and you are never on to IM. :happyfing
