The Autobahn? Peh.
Try the Stelvio Pass.
The Autobahn system isn't what most Americans think it is (after all, it is just an interstate system). And while it is kinda cool to drive as fast as you want, the danger in driving above the advisory limit is pretty nasty. Plus, who wants to drive in a country where you're so regulated on modifying your car? Not to mention licensing rankings/systems.....eck!!!

Than again, on the other side of this argument/reasoning...leaves logic to just say "screw my Miata/240sx, and buy a M3." :D

Oh the fun of rebuilding/maintaining a clean car....
thank you! autobahn is overhyped to death!!!

guys honestly i dont know whats so special about a m3? ok i wouldnt mind an e92 m3 but only the one from ericsson!! (im a 240 fanboy :p ) just dont understand the hype about m3.

oh i have a question to you. ever had the chance to experience kei office coilovers? or do you know anything about them besides that they are discontinued and its hard to get them rebuild??

M3 = RAW driving experience... :D Not sure on the Kei Office's Jakob. I have no experience with them unfortunately, nor have I heard anything. Alan... Any input on them?

Unless its a E30 M3, there is no raw driving experience. :D

Jakob, the M3 is just cool in several ways. There is no other German (or European coupe for that matter) coupe/sedan from the mid/late-90s that made 240rwhp from a I-6, had good (but not great) build quality, and thanks to BMW's motorsports heritage, the M3 body is a classic. Not to mention their price now (sub 10k) makes them much more enticing.
The E46 M3 was more luxury, but still sweet. And the IRTB on the S52 made the car even hotter. However, anyone who says the SMG is worth it should be shot. I hate that system with a passion. It kills the driving experience...and is nowhere near as good as it could have been. Plus, paddle shifters in the E46 just didn't feel right to me. The power delivery and torque was very smooth and felt very "right" for the car.
That being said, I'd take a E36 M3 sedan if the price was right (and I didn't have any other "extra" cars), however, I could easily buy a E36 328i and make it faster than a stock M3 for what I would pay for a clean low-mileage M3.

As for Kei Office....I don't know much about them. The only thing I do know, is that they're "ok." Not Taiwanese crap, and not cheapo junk. However, as I've said before, go Koni/GC w/ custom mounting brackets (from veilside180sx on nissanroadracing.com forums, or Zilvia). It'll cost you over $1k, but its a PROVEN system, unlike many of these coilover setups.
Don't buy the name brand, buy for quality (of the shocks).

Koni, Bilstein, Ohlins, Penske.
All others are either using shocks from one of these 4, or they're using junk. Simple as that.

Just got back from driving an E46 M3 a few minutes ago that a co-worker just bought. Acceleration is stupid fast for an all stock car. if I had the money I would buy one right now, but alas do not. :( Good point on the coils Alan... I figured you would have the right input and be a little more knowledgable than I on that subject. Also on another note, have the bank info for APR, just have to transfer him half the money sometime soon...

P.S. - Sport mode on the E46 M3 is AWESOME!

shit i want an e46 or e92 m3 haha just wanted to know what the hype is all about. we have an e46 but not m3 and that car is FUN to drive but lacks of power :D (316i :p )

i got the kei offices fo 300 :D its a steal so i went for it! as for koni i dont get it, we get koni shocks all over here and people DO NOT like em... but then again i do not know what german (people who live in germany, not euro tuners) understand when they talk about performance.

what about aragosta ? dg-5 is supposed to be one kickass coilover, lots of people on zilvia who ARE having actual seattime and LOTS of it really like them. i thought about going with the aragosta comfort model in some years because its more a street car than anything :)

Germans don't like Koni b/c all Koni shocks have to be sent back to America to be revalved/rebuilt...which is LAME. Plus, Germans have Bilstein. How needs Koni when you have properly valved Bilsteins? :D

shit i really do not know what makes a good shock i guess haha.... but hey kei office as my first set is a good start i guess i could do worst lol

hey what about aragosta? i thought they were top notch coilovers too?

Here's some literature that could help you out a little bit Jakob that was available back when Sport Compact Car was still published... Should help with a basic understanding of what works and what doesn't. Then you can build on your knowledge from there. Enjoy!

Handling and Cornering Improvment Guide - Tech - Sport Compact Car Magazine
Suspension Tuning Negative Camber - Sport Compact Car Magazine
Suspension Tech - Sport Compact Car Magazine
Suspension Geometry - Sport Compact Car Magazine
Dampers Guide - Sport Compact Car Magazine
Monotube Dampers - Sport Compact Car Magazine

Iirc, Aragosta uses Koni shocks. I know KW does on their Variant 2 and 3 coilovers. Not sure about anyone else.

awesome thanks for the links man!
soo i installed my coils and i had this horrible noise... after trying to cheat myself and ask experts for their meaning and what not, just to cover the most obvious i finally realized that i bought a set of blown kei office coilovers

BUT and here is the good part :)
i took em apart and i found out that they have treaded cases where you can insert and secure the shock!!! that means ill just have to buy a great high quality shock insert (öhlins, koni, bilstein, penske) and im good to go with kickass coilovers :)

ill do a shitton of research on that and build my own custom coilovers now, fuck the kei office dampers they are blown anyways :D

actually im kinda happy

feel free to join with inputs guys :D ill post some updates once i get started

oh dont mind my pm raen... i found it out haha i removed the spring and the fuckin piston fell inside the shock lol they are super fucking blown!!

Wow, indeed. I'm glad you figured it out. I read your PM late last night and couldn't process what you were telling me thanks to a LONG afternoon/evening at work. Brain dead + lack of food = bad. Good luck on putting new (better) shocks (Bilstein :D) in your coilovers. If you can, post some pics and I'll see if I can help.

In other news, not related to suspension...
I did something smart, but dumb the other night. Rob of Roadster specialist Tetsuya Garage I posted a GB on RS Refine gauge/hvac rings. They come with polycarbonate lenses for an "individual gauge" look. Could I have spent this money on NB shock mounts or coilover sleeves....yeah. BUT I was too blind to pass these up. Hopefully they'll be shipped in the next 2 months as the batch will not be made/shipped until we get 20 buyers.

well it was hard to explain for me haha but i made a video:
YouTube - suspension noise s14

which is pretty obvious whats wrong with it haha! blown seals and hitting the bump stops all the time

i took the coilovers apart and ill post pics of the the soaked shafts and bumpstops lol

and im waiting on my gland nut tool so i can get the shocks out from the treaded bodies.

Yikes... That noise when you first went over the railroad tracks sounded horrible! Glad you figured out what it was however.

Alan, I don't blame you... Those are nice. Just not my style though...

yup thats what i thought haha... well time for some bilstein goodness, i might even get some swift springs.

whats your opinion about them raen?

also i would like to have SMOOTH damper operations, means i want a fucking comfortable ride!!! i know its not a rolls royce haha but i dont want that, i want smooth coilover operation when i go over shitty streets and great performance on the track! penske looks awesome! but i havent seen damper inserts for coilovers from penske, nor did i saw them from öhlins.... but i guess ill stick to bilstein :)

A hammer? Haha... That dent looks like it impacted something pretty harshly.

ya but what pisses me of is that the housings are TOTALLY FINE! its like they put in the blown shocks just to fuck with me...
whatever bilstein b8 sprint insert here i come

Jakob, I think you got a set of coilovers that somebody dropped.
Also, Bilstein revalves are pretty cheap (in the US at least) so go that route. (can you tell I'm bias?)

Calton, they are sweet, but you know me, I'm trying to refine a cheap little Japanese sports car...you're trying to unleash one. hahaha

ok screw it... im going with koni 8610-1437 these are the proper inserts for the kei office housings and i found them for 400 per set, which is ok with me. ill do the fronts for now when my november check comes in. and in spring ill change the rears too i know that is some sort of halfassing it but i need some other stuff first and the rears arent blown and work decent.
btw the second shock still had the lettering on it, kei office uses tokico shocks. i found that interesting somehow.

oh and im very unhappy with my energy suspension bushings, not sure if its because of the shitty dampers i have now but my car is like a go kart. it handles exceptionally well but it does NOT dampen anything haha! ill try the powerflex bushings, i found out about them on a bimmer forum and they are supposed to be like the stockers but still are firm without the NVH i have right now...

or i even swap to stock. i took a ride in my buddies s14 which has 20 thousand fucking miles on it and his car handles as well as mine but without the NVH
