Ok well here it is i am 16 living in auburn washington. Got 2 more years of high school plan on buying some sort of 180sx/240sx hatchback by the end of summer. should have bout 3,000 ruf est. Want to know ware the best plase would be to get it at? I have no place to work on it really. Wanna do most the work myself as much as i can. If i have to i will take it to a shop but that is last thing if i can not go anywere els i will take it there. I plan on saving for a RB20DET or a SR20DET not sure what one yet. Anyone know what engine would be beter over all? Not just speed but also getting part for it stuff like that to. But iv ben looking around on every thing there is trying to find out what i wanna do. For now tell i get the money keep the stock engine in. But i wanna put a few things on just to get the hp up a lil for small racing stuff like that so what stuff should i do to it?

For sure im going to do to the car is:

1. Flush every oil out and put new oil in.
2. Take out the back set .
3. Role cage.
4. Racing tires/brakes.
5. Racing seats.
6. Someone said something about the trunk? if ther is i might like to do it too.
7. Timing in the engine how ever you do that.(NOT SUR HOW)
8. Body kit that is real and not one that will mess the car up. im not a *** punk kid just to let you konw.
9. Was thinking about some kind of dash too light waight.

ya i know this will take alot of time and $ but i got nuthing but time dont do anything in any of my classes but auto shop that is it lol. and as for the money like i said end of summer i should have bout 3,000 for a summer job then i wanna find one for when school is going to work after school too. but please any help with all of this will be grate. i am 100% into geting this car and doing everything to it. thanks,

See you'll get much more responses in this thread...

As for the Engine I would go w/ either an SR or an LS, cause the RB is much harder to get parts for then the SR & LS

What kind of racing are we talking? Auto-X? Road Course?

thanks man. and i like to drag the most but this wont be a track car its going to be for everything every day driver, finding a long rode just to race down, and then racing around the city. i have be reading around it looks just like the Ka dose alot for just puting a few small thing into it so i ben thinking bout just keeping the stock engine in if i can make it fast enuf :)

but any help will be good thanks

well you should prolly rock the KA for a while and get some suspension under it, maybe a set of wheels or something instead of focusing on a motor swap right off the bat.

just the parts alone on a under shoot estimate, i figured it to be about 3200 and then you want a swap, thats another 3000 depending on what you go with and then you have to buy the car. so with everything you are looking at around 9k to meet your desires.

Slow down a little and take it one step at a time. Get a good running 240, and take things one thing at a time. exhaust, wheels, suspension etc etc...if it runs fine then dont get into a budget frinzy motor swap because it will hurt you in the long run. trust me i know

i like to drag alot but also race the **** tuners that dont know shit from shit around the city too. just bout any time we can set up a race you know. ill also take it up to the track a few times too

Get to know your KA in and out and spend time looking at things before taking things apart.

1. Flush every oil out and put new oil in. (Yes do it)
2. Take out the back set . (why?)
3. Roll Cage (in the early stages of building up your car its unnecessary)
4. Racing tires/brakes. (just go with decent sticky tires and good pads, no need to spend tons of money on pads when starting out)
5. Racing seats. (just get 1 bucket seat and leave the passenger seat alone)
6. Someone said something about the trunk? if ther is i might like to do it too. (unsure what you mean)
7. Timing in the engine how ever you do that.(Tons of write ups to advance timing but not really necessary)
8. Body kit that is real and not one that will mess the car up. im not a *** punk kid just to let you konw.
(body kits are okay. But unless its going to be a show car, you're gonna mess up a body kit anway. Might as well get a good copy so you won't feel bad spending more than $1000 smashing it up)
9. Was thinking about some kind of dash too light weight. (just stay with the oem dash theres no reason to mod that)

Other than that just spend time tuning your driving skills at the track. You can find a lot of parts for sale here, zilvia, nico marketplace forums. Despite zilvia being a bit strict on their posting and etc, they do have a lot of parts for sale. And seeing how you're 16 with a lot of time on your hands, just roll in a stock s13 for a while and get a job until you can afford money to start this giant money pit. G'luck either way and welcome to the forums.

So I see you want Drag Racing?

Well first things to do.

MAINT.
Flush and Change ALL Your fluids.
Engine Oil (I like to use Mobil 1 5w40 Turbo Diesel, w/ a HTHS rating of 3.9 it protects the engine under high Stress/RPM much better then most Reg. oils | Dont forget the Filter, I'd use a Mobil 1 also M!-208 is the P#)
Coolant
Brake Fluid
Clutch Fluid
Trans Fluid (Either AMS GL4 MTF or Redline GL4 Trans Fluid: Probably the best you can get for your tranny.)
Power Steering Fluid (Uses Dexron ATF)
Diff Fluid

Next would be check your Brakes. No sense go fast if you can't stop...
Make sure they grab fine. Make sure they dont make any abnormal noise. if the lining is low. Replace it. Preferably a Performance Pad. Portfield R4-S's are a very nice High-Performance Street/Semi-Track pad. New Rotors are pretty cheap, check R1 Concepts. Make sure all the slide pins are lubed and good. Lack of lube can cause your brakes to lock up prematurely. Braided Lines are fairly cheap at 90+ for a set of Front & Rear.

Next would be pay attention to suspension. 99% Chance your still rocking the factory Bushings. there worn and 9/10 there torn and have way more free play then it should. ES Bushings are fairly cheap

ES Master Includes:
Front & Rear LCA Bushings
Tension Rod Bushings
Front & Rear Sway Bar Bushings
and Tie-Rod end boots (I usually just buy new Tie-Rod ends)

I would also get:
ES Steering Rack Bushings
ES Rear Subframe Bushings
ES Rear Diff Bushings
Moog Front & Rear Sway Bar Endlinks

Now alot of ppl are probably gonna say, you dont need all this shit its just wasting money and your cars gonna be slow. but again, Why go fast if you can't even control the damn thing? Plus when your making upwards of 350, 400+ whp. What makes you think the stock worn/torn bushings are gonna hold? $10 says if you clutch kick right now you get a tad of wheel hop from worn bushings.

Along w/ the bushings, Struts and Spring would be a good Idear. MR Springs are Fairly cheap and KYB AGX Struts aren't too expensive either. While doing the Sprign and Struts I reccomend getting new Top mounts and Dust boots (They include the bump stops, it's part of the boot).

Before making power, one must put all the power he has now, to the ground. At minimum I would suggest General Exclaim UHP's. Not alot of ppl use them but for what you pay they are some pretty awesome tires. Next step up thats not much more expensive are Sumitomo HTR Z III's. Then if you got the moeny Continental DW's. Not alot ppl use those too but they grip very very close to Z1 Star Specs and XS's but have a longer tread life. You can also get alittle quicker by using Smaller (as in diameter not width) to reduce the rolling surface thus simulating a lower Final Drive in the Diff. i.e. Stock tire hieght = 24.6 - 24.9" IIRC. Assuming your running the stock wheels a 205/50/15 would be ~23" tall which inturn would = ~7.2% Gear Reduction. thats about a 4.376 gear in the rear end IIRC.

Not that you can put all the power down. Prep your self for making power. Now would be a good time to look into the Drivetrain. cheapest Clutch & flywheel I know of thats still quality is Z1 Performance. they make a 14lbs flywheel and a Carbon Kevlar clutch that I believe can hold upto ~280whp. Which at this time your still making close to stock. I'd lose the 2pc. D/S and get a Steel 1pc. Those can be had for ~$300 excluding shipping. Brand new Clutch Master & Slave cylinders can be had as a combo for ~$50 IIRC. Braided Clutch line is also fairly cheap at $20.

Now that everything is beef'd up, your ALMOST ready for more power. Now would be a good time for some weight reduction. Wouldn't step in to Carbon or FRP yet. But gutting the trunk and removing the rear seat can remove quite abit of weight. The rear seat is too damn small for anyone to fit any ways. I'd remove it and have a Audio shop cut some carpet and cover it. something like this. ( http://www.240sxforums.com/forums/1332713-post2.html ). Other thing you can do is Remove the rear speakers and amps and just run a good Front Component set. that total should = another 10lbs.

This is just a rough sketch. There's so much more you can do but thats what I would do. For me going fast isnt a bright Idear if your not in control. Thats my number 1 thing is being in control.

wow thanks man thos are some nice sight. lot more money than i was thinking :( looks like i might have to look at some used stuff to. dont really like the idea of some used guys parts tho but we will see how it terns out. i really hope i get this job lol

I don't give a fuck about the no flamming rule.

no one should be giving any advice or help to someone whos is going to be "racing around the city...". Shit heads like this make all of us look bad with their fast and the furious bullshit. Don't help ppl that are planning on street racing, I think that should be official forum policy.

....i call BS. Try it and we'll see what happens to your license after a couple weeks. No cop in their right mind would let street racing knowingly happen.
