Jdm-online - Zilvia.net Forums | Nissan 240SX (Silvia) and Z (Fairlady) Car Forum

Well isn't this just fine and dandy... i was starting to trust this website since ive read plenty of good assumptions about them since i remember someone here say "If its sponsored by our forum, its legit"... well turns out, they aren't... and now theres proof...

But i have 2 ways to swing this sword...

After reading that post, i really wanted to just sign up to zilvia, log in, and just tell Sileighty_85 "Well then where the fuck DO you order engines from then????" because seriously, shit!! EVERY engine website has crappy service. probably because you CANT EVER have a 100% chance to order a 100% legit motor that came from a fucking JUNKYARD no matter who sells it...

So far, almost every engine site imaginable ive researched has had crappy and seemingly exploitative service... YES i agree they shouldn't be a douche and cut your wiring harness... but WE shouldn't be a dousche and keep on asking these companies for an entire rebuild-worth of new parts on THEIR dime because "ohh yadda yadda was worn out" on a motor you knowingly bought as salvage... which is probably the reason these companies cut all contact from your asses as soon as you get the motor knowing that you'l bitch about something...

That being said... you can never trust anything second hand... Be thankful that there are companies making it even POSSIBLE for us to consider buying and owning these engines, and that they can't really be at complete fault for shit breaking, being already broken... and act the way they do because of the customer as time and experience is establised... buying used is only a gamble in hopes that a low price will yield mediocre to good-enough parts for the function/build.. Otherwise, go back in time and pay $20,000.00 for a Brand new RB26 fresh off the mill, guaranteed to work and a 5 year 50,000 mile warantee....

heh. shouldn't have mentioned that forum if there wasn't a point.

but my beef isn't with forum vs forum... its customers in the U.S. Vs junkyard motorset vendors.

Aren't you Gaijin? being deployed or sent on orders in active duty automatically makes you foreign to every place on earth you'l live but one... lol

That's where the LOL came from, we are all Gaijin but not on the forum it is ours.
I was just sharing and who know maybe someone on here is in Japan and doesn't know of the forum so it may help.
You are right tho we are Gaijin everywhere we go.
You ever try any of the vendors in Canadia? I had a buddy back when who got his motors from there....not sure who.
What about carpart.com, they not engine specific just online library of junk yards and I have used them a few times for smaller stuff and the yards listed were all extremely helpful.

yeah agreed its always a risk buying from one of them. but thats why most people suggest visiting a local shop if you can to check it out before you buy it. personally i had a great experiance with jdm-online and even after i recieved the engine had good customer service.

Yeah. Most tuner shops can order you a motor, but in all honesty- they're getting them from the same places you do.
Bottom line- rebuild/refresh whatever motor you buy.

The upper coolant neck was cracked....never brought it up as a claim with them since i knew it could be fixed easy...only problem i had with the engine, and it even came with an aftermarket short-shifter/stage 2 clutch...
Why would someone be pumped if their motor came with aftermarket parts? Sounds like drift tax to me.

I know of some local shops that hand pick their motors and rarely see bad sets. My buddy picked his SR up from a local shop that hand picked it and it was clean down to the jdm shift knob. I went through some canadian assholes that made me get the law involved. In the end it all worked out, but I wish I would've spent the little extra up front like he did. Hassle free is the way to be.

/facepalm.

Yeah, don't read the good reviews either, because every company we deal with has spotless records. /sigh.

Take it for what you want, in the end it's always the better choice to have a local shop help you find one, as they will deal with an importer on a business level when parts aren't as advertised. Powers you don't have.

I've said it in many threads, any idiot that just drops in a motor off a shipping pallet and expects perfection gets what he deserves

Hand picked how? Like going into a junkyard here (I'm sure there are a few companies that work directly with exclusive Japanese importers, but many just buy from bulk salvage yards) , finding what appears to be the least abused motor that's sitting in a crashed drift car, and then starting it and running it to make sure it's good? I can assure you people aren't pulling their perfectly good running motors out of their perfectly good running cars and shipping them back to the States. As a matter of fact, most cars that get wrecked, from what I've seen, get their motor pulled and swapped into another chassis. What does that mean Stateside? You're getting the leftovers, the bottom of the barrel motors. I'm sorry, but this is a sad reality. It's a total crap shoot, and you are buying a used motor, so you can't blame the company.

I've said it a million times. Before you ever swap to a JDM motor, you need to atleast do a compression test/leakdown, at a minimum. I would always recommend a stock rebuild. The motor is out of the car, might as well fix it.

That means time, money, parts, and then being responsible for when the newb blows it up later. Much simpler to just ship the motor and be done.

wow,I know rhdjapan does ,but youd think most other companies would just rebuild them before they sent them to you as well, and save the trouble.
Have you personally seen a rep from them in a salvage yard, picking through motors? Even if they do that, how can they tell it's running, if it's just sitting there by itself or in a clip? I am sure you can get some companies to rebuild, but like Boostin said, it adds a bit of liability.

By the way Boostin, I didn't forget about you. Just been caught up.

They do come like that from japan and they get a great price for it which makes up for the shipping. Then they charge you as a regular motor like if its a low millage motor.Put all this company's are a cross your finger type of thing.Even if you actually hook up a connection to import this motors there is no way to guarantee you will get a fine working motor.
Not saying that all motor coming from japan are crap. But you will never know until its in your garage.
Like then man said always rebuild or cross your fingers.lol.
