Hey guys. There is oil covering one of my spark plugs. I took the valve cover off and the gasket appears to be fine. On some of my "valve lifters" i believe they are called they do not all look the same. I have taken some pics. One set of the valve lifters is filled with oil i guess because they are so sunken down.

So you if you guys could give me info on why the valve lifters look like that and what I need to do about them and why you think there is oil in my 3rd cylinder(from left to right in the picture) it would be much appreciated. And yes I am aware of the cams pressing down on the valve lifter but it seems like one of them is too far down...

Thanks.

In the Cylinder since you said the seal "Looked" good i'm gonna go with the Rings. Not really, a Cyl, leakage test would be best for determining where it's coming from.

Ok first question is.... Is the oil on the top of the spark plug in the wire side or the electrode side of the plug?? If its on the top side the only way oil could even get in there is via the valve cover seal or a cracked valve cover, If its soaking the bottom of the spark plug (the end that is screwed into the head then you got engine issues for sure) or your spark plug was so loose that oil is blowing up past the threads which would most likely be a piston issue.. and it should be running like nine kinds of ass right now as well

take pics of the rubber gasket that surrounds the sparkplug holes..

oil was covering the electrode side of the spark plug. It still feels strong to me though. It just misfires because of the oil covered plug.

I will take a pic of the gasket covering the plug holes just so you guys can tell me if its good or not. To me it looks good, but then again it is the first gasket i have inspected.

alright guys i think the oil in spark plug hole was caused by the gasket. Now,
when i check my spark my spark plug in cylinder 1(the plugs are all 4 days old NGK Platinum) it was really black and stuff from running rich. When i take the spark plug wire out while the engine is running the engine does not change it idles the same. I switched spark plug wires and that is not the problem. Switched spark plugs that is not the problem. In my first cylinder is where the problem lies I do not know what it is. Here is step by step on what is happening.

1. Spark plug in cylinder 1 is black because of running rich.
2. Take plug wire out while car is running and no change in idle or running condition.
3. Change plug wires and they are fine.

4. I put a good plug in from one of the other cylinders.
5. I pull the plug wire off while engine is running and there is still no change in idle or running condition and the new plug is coroded with black stuff just after about 3 minutes of running in that cylinder hole.

I do not know what the problem is. Not the wire, not the plug.

And spark plug is dry no oil as well.
