in the resivoir:
- bubbles
- vanishing coolant
- oil mixed in with the coolant

In the radiator
- missing coolant
- When cap is removed and car is run, bubbles form constantly.

in the oil:
- Milky texture (oil will look like coffee with cream)
- White/mocha residue on rad cap

in addition:

- white smoke on startup
- power loss

Since youve overheated before, tread very carefully. If it happens too often, or if you dont catch it in time, you can blow the HG or warp the head. Start with the cheapest to fix, and work your way up

Rad Cap--->Thermostat--->Radiator Hoses--->Radiator (see if it holds pressure)--->Water Pump--> Headgasket.

i went through a LOT of troubleshooting with my old SC300, so this is an area that i have experience in. Not by choice :(

As for coolant, you do know they sell bottles of pre-mixed 50/50 right? Pour and go.
:iagree: ive used that stuff for a long time, with no ill effects. i always keep a bottle in the car.

I had 50/50 mix in my teggy then the fan quit working and a lot of water boiled off. I figure its probably about 70/30 now. Don't let that happen to your 240 please.

Haha. I sat in stopped traffic for 2 hours this weekend, never got over 200. :)
I wouldn't have over heated if it wasn't 105 and i have a working radiator fan. But its all fixed now.

50/50 is best because it has the additives to prevent the corossion that running straight water will eventually cause. plus it lowers the freezing point of your coolant

If the car is cold then the fan shouldn't come on. It should only come on when the motor is slightly above normal operating temperature.
