so I own an 89 240sx with the single cam. I just finished rebuilding the motor and have almost everything worked out. the only thing i have left is my car is not firing on the number 1 cylinder. she has spark fuel and good compression so im at a loss what the problem could be. i have new plugs and wires the injectors were all tested so i dont know what it could be. thanks for someone to shed some light on my problem. i have owned this car for a year and a half and havent even got to drive her yet, would like to soon. thanks again.

huckrg ya its got a new cap and rotor with no scorch marks so that couldnt be it. ka24e i will have to see if i can get the equipment to check codes but as of now it wont drive to the parts store anything else i can do?

Fail ^^^ J/k man, lol. You absolutely do not need any "tools" to check codes on a 89-90 S chassis. A Philips head screw drivers (or 10mm socket with 6" or longer extension) and a small regular screw driver is all you need.

This will get you started.

i know you said fuel is ok but where did you check that? coming straight from the fuel lines? or did you check to see the injector was going just fine? If you can check the injector. I've seen cases where timing played a part in an issue like this. Very rare and unlikely, but check it.. just in case. I've seen it happen on a wrx that came into my shop, where 3 of the 4 cylinders were firing correctly but one of them wouldn't. Ended up being that the timing belt slipped a notch, and for some reason threw off only one cylinder. Could've been because a number of other variables had been degrading that cylinder, and the slight deviation in timing was the straw that broke the camel's back.. But i'd start off with the injector.

I'm not trying to beat a dead horse, but are you sure the #1 injector is firing in the car? I know you had them tested, but you could have an electrical issue causing that injector to not fire. Does the #1 plug look like its covered in fuel after cranking/running?

I assume compression is good in that cylinder as well?

Could stuck open be a possibility? I had an injector hang open on my SOHC once. Ran on 3 and rich as fuck. (black
smoke pouring out the tail pipe)

You could also do the ole swap the injector see if the problem follows. If you go switch the 1 and 3 for example, and the #3 cylinder starts acting up, its defiantly that injector. If the problem does not follow, its something mechanical (ie. compression) or electrical.

ya i may do that. just rented a compression tester and tested each cylinder it gave me very strange low numbers like 0, 45,45,0 so i tested it on my truck which i know has good compression and got the same numbers so i think the tester is broken. I have to wait to till this weekend to pick up my tester so i guess we will see after that. thanks for the help guys i will let you know what i can figure out.

Let me guess...... you rented the tester at O'Reillys? I've used a rental tester before and got the same results, lol. You know you can always do the old school compression test. Stick your thumb over the spark plug hole and have someone crank it, seriously. If you thumb blows off (off the hole, not...off) you have enough compression to initiate combustion.

You sir are correct. I cant stand O'riellys but it was my only option. yes i did the old school thumb over the hole method and yes there is enough to initiate combustion in my opinion. i will switch injectors over when i get a chance and see what my results are. If its not the injector I don't Know what it could be.

ok so i switched injectors around and i am now firing on number 1 so when i had these injectors checked they must have lied to me lol. anyway i will update when my new injector gets here and let you helpful guys now how she runs. just to be sure these injectors are 260cc right. I cant seem to find the accurate answer 260cc or 270cc.
