Hey there, I'm new here.

I own a 1980 Porsche 924 Turbo and I am planning on swapping in a KA24DE and installing a turbo. (You know, for more performance than this crappy Porsche engine :D)

I'm just wondering if there's any glaring reasons you guys see this might not work. It seems like it'll fit really well, I'd just have to get my hands on an adapter for this transmission.

I'd also appreciate any tips you guys might be able to give me.

Thanks,
Joe

LOL for better reliability with a truck motor?
Did you seriously just say the KA was a truck motor? You Fail....

OP, I say go for it. It's something different and very original.

and yes the KA was originally designed for the nissan truck..
Very doubtful. The KA started as a 2.0L in Japan, which eventually took the place of the Z series engine. The Z series engine were used in the Skyline, Bluebird, Stanza, 200SX, and numerous trucks. The KA debuted in the US as a KA24E and was first used in the 89' 240sx.

-The 88-89' D21 had the Z24 and the VG30 as its engine choices.

-The 88 Pathfinder had the Z24i and VG30i. In 89' the Pathfinder dropped the Z24i and used the VG30i only. The Pathfinder offered the KA24E in 1990 along with the VG30E.

- 88' Nissan/Datsun van used the Z24i exclusively
- 89' Maxima had the VG30E
- 89' Sentra had the GA16i
- 89' Stanza had the CA20E
- 89' 300Z's had the VG30 and VG30T
- 89' 240sx had the KA24E

The KA24E was produced from July 1988 to January 1996. Also, the KA24 featured in the trucks had a different cam profile, lower compression and a different intake manifold.

The KA may have been designed for a Nissan truck, but it was used in the 240sx before it was offered in any Nissan truck.

well the SOHC was used in a the pathfinder and the hardbody truck thats why everyone says its a "truck engine" cause of its good torque, but the 240sx shared that engine in 89 it wasn't just the 240sx that had the privilage to be introduced to this engine...

Nissan Axxess
and,
Nissan Pintara or also known as the Ford Corsair, which is interesting cause i didnt know nissan did a merge model with ford...

The KA's were used in the pathfinder and hardbody trucks, but it was in an S chassis before any truck had the KA24E.

As far as the Nissan Axxess goes:

The second generation of the Prairie was introduced September 1988, and it was renamed the Nissan Axxess when sold in North America. The vehicle sold for six years (1990–95) in Canada, and in 1990 only in the United States.
So, no. The Axxess did have the KA engine, but it wasn't until 1990.

The Pintara(R31) use the CA20 engine in its first gen. Second (89-92) gen did have the KA but from what I gather this was a Japan/New Zeland car only. It never made it to the US. Also, I cannot find what specific years the CA20 and KA24E were offered, but even if this car did have the KA in 89 it's still not a truck and it was never sold in the US.
The Ford Corsair offered the CA20 and KA24E as well, but it was an Australia only car.

All in all, the Pintara may have had the KA24 in 89' along with the 240sx, but the Pintara is still a car, it is not a truck and it wasn't even sold in the states. Just because an engine has good torque does not make it a "truck engine".

1.8L huh? That's the first I've ever heard of that one. I'll have to look into that. I also remember reading awhile back that the KA20DE was DOHC but only had 3 valves per cylinder like the SOHC KA.

i didnt mention that the KA was in a truck or pathfinder before the 240..

I know the KA was introduced in trucks in 1990 i was just sharing that it wasnt only in the 240 and north america or not it still was in another car in 89..

but whatever i dont wanna ruin this kids thread lol..

A while back I really searched for the cam specs for the KA18DE, wondering if the cams may be more aggressive, like the believe the SR16's vs the SR20's. I couldn't find the info though.

Please excuse my threadjack.

knockbacksrule, I gotcha. I just annoys me when people stick the "A KA is a truck engine" thing.

bmoses, KA15, 16, 18 and 20! Wtf?, I've never heard about those before. Very interesting.

I hate to keep spamming this guys thread, lol, but I was just thinking. The KA20DE was obviously a DOHC 2.0L engine, but that would mean the DOHC was used in Japan before the SOHC was ever made? If that was the case, did Nissan manufacture a completely different head (The KA24E head) specifically for the KA24?

Here's another link to a radiator company. It specifies a KA16DE about 10 engines down from the top.
