i have a 90 240sx with sr20det. when im driving it it doesnt wanna go into 1st easily sometimes unless i push it harder. but if i do push it harder it will grind then go into gear. i noticed that if i hold the clutch in and put it in 2nd then to 1st it will go in gear just fine. I was also told by the guy that did all the mods that if i install a short shifter it would help out. Does anybody know what it could be? if so let me know it would be greatly appreciated

Here's a secret. If your car doesn't want to slot in to gear, leave the car in neutral, let the clutch out, kick it back in, and push it in to gear. Sometimes shit isn't aligned right. Spinning the input shaft usually fixes the problem.

He's saying that sometimes not everything in the tranny is aligned and releasing the clutch will give it the time to line everything up..

If it happens often then something isn't right however. Could be a sign of clutch wear, or you could need a clutch alignment. Maybe your linkages are messed up in some way shape or form. There are plenty of independent variables that could cause this problem Do some researching and see if there is anything online of people having the same issue and see what they did. Start there and branch out.

ok i was driving it today and for some reason it just started going into 1st smoothly??? but im sure the problem will come back soon. could it be the tranny fluid? where is the fill hole on these trannys anyways? also what kind of fluid should i put in?

i dont think its the synchro cuz its going into gear fine now. Could it be the fluid needing to be changed? can i just drain it and pour it through the shifter hole? or do i have to pour it in some other hole on the tranny?

hmm i just got my tranny fluid changed out to royal purple 75w-140 and just like that the problem is gone and has been for almost a week after i changed the fluid to RP. So to whoever says that RP is no good, im not sure what yall are doing wrong. Idk about RP motor oil but i would definitely recommend RP 75w-140 for your 240 tranny.
