I know they are a "cheap" tire, but I can get almost-cost pricing on them.. which would be really nice. It is the MA-Z1's that I am considering. I have read tons of reviews, most of them giving them a great review.. even modified mag's said they were an excellent tire for the price. Im just looking to see if any members have had any personal experience with them. As far as use it will be for daily driving(both in city and highway), "spirited" driving, and hopefully a couple of auto-x's

Also, should I go with a 225 or 235 or a 9 inch wide rim? I like the look of a tiny bit of stretch, but at the same time I do want as much grip as possible.

Thanks guys.

edit: modified mag article

sure does.

I want to hear the good and the bad lol, which model were they?

The only bad thing I can find is the "chunking" that occurs if you accelerate realy hard out of turns... chunks literally come out of the tire lol.

Considering the price, I am tempted to run them as a test mule.. but at the same time I am thinking I should save up for the v12 evo's.. I can get a decent price on them too, not even close the maxxis's though haha. But they seem like a really good tire.

For my rims+v12 evo's I was quoted ~$2000 said and done (mounted/balanced/all hardware). That is pretty decent.

I have the V12's up front. There pretty decent I would say.

As for the Z1's chunking that should only be when spinning. If your not spinning it shouldn't be getting hot enough to chunk.

Thats what I was thinking, which I would hope the subie wouldnt spin? lol. fuck I hate picking tires. So much harder then picking rims.

lol really? I have never checked any out in person and it is hard to tell from the pics.

Rim specs are Rota G force 18x9 +35 in gunmetal

245's are Square on a 9. 235 slight stretch and 255 slightly meaty. Also depends on the Manf.
Federals usually Look/Run a size bigger then printed.

Yes IDK if taking a pic of mine would do it any justice but they look real pussy lmao.

Also what sidewall size and what price can you get those @?
Try looking in to the Continental DW's.

235/40/r18's were $200. Not the greatest price, it is hard to get really good deals on wheels/tires up here because companys get hit so hard with shipping and duty fee's.

I know he is giving me around $20 bucks off a tire, which I should be able to get a little more off still.

Got a Zip Code I can try? Or whatever it is it's called over there lol. (Pardon my ignorance :p)
Because here I've found those for ~ $135 a piece for the V12's

Also the General Exclaim UHP's are another Budget Tire that ranks pretty high.

holy shit.. thats ridiculous. baha we use Postal Codes, and yah you can use T9V 1K6.

I am not sure if the place I am getting them from (Urban Expressions Wheels, you can check them out on facebook) carries General, I will give them a call tomorrow and ask. My local shop where I work on my car carries Maxxis tires, thats why I can get such a good deal on them..

Just a comparrison of prices, the same rims that I am looking to buy off wheeldude.com are $900, but my friend just ordered a set of wheels&tires off that site and got dinged withi $800 for duty/shipping. Urban Expressions is charging me $1150 for the rims, which is more then wheeldude, but I dont have to pay the shipping.

So annoying

yah its good.. till I pay 150-200 for duty lol. thanks though! Just wondeing, who is that pricing through? I will use that to try and get a better price

Discussion starter · #17 ·
yup. always duty on anything you buy that you bring into Canada.
As weird as it sounds, sometimes you get really fucked and have to pay duty twice and there is literally nothing you can do about it..you can try filling out a million files to try and get your money back, but they make it soo hard that you end up giving up.

so I sent him an email regarding his prices compared to tirecrafts prices and this was his response.

Hey Ty,

Give me day to see what I can do about pricing. With Tirerack, it is hard for any Canadian retailer to beat Tireracks pricing, but I will try to come as close as possible. I appreciate the fact that you would rather go with a local retailer and I will definitely take that into consideration.

Have a great night and expect an email from me later tomorrow.

Thank you!
Gary Wong
Sounds pretty promising

In my response I pulled the "Ill give you a great review on the Western Subaru Club forums" lol. That forum is pretty much based out of the same city/surrounding area as that shop. That may also help.

He was a really helpful guy. The owner has a pretty baller onevia and the shop is known for sponsoring local drifters.
