It's been a while since I update this thread. It's been a little hectic as I am currently closing on a single-family home and still want to do more to this toy.

I had someone check my A/C, figured out it was not enough freon and filled it along with dye. Blows cold now. When I got home, I decided to pop open my hood and saw the dye all over the high-pressure line that connects the compressor to the condensor. Will be looking for one. Hopefully someone has one that they're getting rid of? :crossfing

Also noticed that even with it fixed, the fans aren't up to snuff to cool everything when the A/C is on so I picked up a few things to hopefully help. Although, i'm on the fence to decide which one to go with (either Altima Fans or Taurus Fans), I'll probably upgrade to a quest alternator.

Altima Fans from the junkyard
Image

It was an easy find, plus someone already did the removal work for me.... I might end up going back for the Taurus fan as I saw one when I went for these.

Other things on order:
Koyo SR20DET N-Flo aluminum radiator
Hayden Automotive 3654 dual fan 2-speed Adjustable Thermostatic Fan Controller
Image

Ended up choosing this one as it can control both high and low speed for both fans. Might not need this if I end up going the Taurus fan route though.

Mishimoto 62°C Thermostat

Will put them on when I decided which fan route to go, and if I go the Taurus route, have to pick up the quest alternator sooner than later....

Recently, the car idles like if it has a vacuum leak somewhere (idles at 1300 w/o a/c, and upwards to 1900rpm when on) or my IACV went bad (sometimes it doesn't feel like it bumps the idle when I turn on/off the AC). I'll have to go looking at my hoses and hopefully that is the case. Will have to do it later.

Will update when I do more work. :icon_rolleyes:

Small update:
Friday, my Koyorad was waiting for me.
Image

Image

I was going to wait until I have more time to install it, but this happens yesterday.
Image

It started leaking again. Since I was pretty busy, I couldn't fix it that day, but I could at least start getting the Altima fan shroud ready.

I know there's a lot of write-ups on installing it, but I didn't like how some were done. So, this is how I ended up doing it for mine.

Fist thing I did was to try to line up both sides of the upper mount to the radiator. Needless to say, the holes didn't exactly line up.
Image

I ended up enlarging them a little so both sides could be bolted down without removing them.

Next, I grabbed a hole saw and made a cut for the lower outlet.
Image

Since I went with aligning with the upper mounts, the lower mounts needed to be cut. Fortunately, they rested perfectly on the lower radiator mounts.
Image

Here's how it looks after the cutting.
Image

When I had test fitted it into the chassis, I had to trim slightly on both sides to fit. Unfortunately, the power steering hose was somewhat in the way. I ended up bending the hard line a little for it to clear.

Next, was the wiring. I didn't get the controller that I mentioned previously yet, so I ended up following this:
Image

The existing fan controller would power the green wire going to the fans and would turn on at the temperature that is currently selected. When the A/C turns on/off, it'll power the blue wire going to the fans. Either or that is turned on, it'll power the fans at low speed. When it hits the desired temperature (currently 160°F), and the A/C is turned on, it'll spin at the high speed (sorry, didn't take pics of the fan wiring when I completed it).

After wiring the fans up, I installed the radiator and fans into the chassis. Here's how it looks now.

Took it out for a quick spin and my temps didn't go past 82°C (per my PowerFC). Will see how it works in rush-hour traffic with the A/C on tomorrow.

well done!
Keep us updates

I love your bay- the sr lol

Ka-t ftw
Thanks guys! I do like how it came out and I didn't really need to cut too much off.

Just my luck. Not even two days since installing the fans, the right fan motor went bad.:fonix:
I'll have to suck it up and pick up another fan motor. But in the meantime, I disconnected that fan and will run with one fan until I get the replacement motor. I just hope that one doesn't fail too.

Thanks man. I haven't been able to do much with this, but I'm still not done.

I was in japan for 3 weeks last month and picked up some things while I was there.

A shot from the hotel room

Went to three different UpGarage locations while I was there. It was awesome just being able to go. Too bad I don't have a clear pic of any of the stores. Just this blurry one. :icon_rolleyes:
Image

Picked up these - Rays Spada-Wide 18x8J +45
Image

But didn't realize that the airline I was catching back refused to accept them as check-in baggage. :fonix:
Right now they're at my in-laws waiting for me to go back and send it when I can get on base again, or if someone can help me send them home.

Also picked up R33 rear calipers and rotors (rotors not pictured)
Image

The pads that came with them had a lot of life on them so I'll probably use them for the time being.
Image

I also picked up 5-lug hubs when I got back
Front ABS Version

Rears

Looking for some z32 e-brake hardware and other misc stuff, but it'll be on hold until I get a hand on 5-lug rims or get the rims I bought, back home, I won't be able to put them on.

I'll update again when I actually get to work on this.

Been slowly working on some issues that come up, found some 750cc top-feed high-impedance fuel injectors. Waiting for them to come in. While I am waiting for them, I dug up my top-feed fuel rail that I had bought a while ago.
Image

Since the mounting points don't line up, I decided to fab a adapter plate/mount so I don't need to pick up another rail.
Image

Still need to finish it up though.
Image

After putting it aside, I then decided to clean/paint the rear calipers that I had picked up. Seals looked pretty new and the brake fluid that came out of them were pretty clear, so I didn't rebuild them.
Image

Image

Image

Image

I decided to do the quest alternator on the SR.
I picked up a rebuilt 125A quest alternator on eBay.
Image

Since the upper bracket doesn't line up, I ended up picking up the kit that is being offered on zilvia. Yes, looking at it, you probably could have pieced it together yourself, but someone already did the job, I might as well use it.
Image

When doing the swap, instead of removing the rear bushing, I decided to drill it out the same size as the front hole.
Image

Here's pics of it installed. Used my underdrive pulley that I took of the SR alternator and it fit right up.
Image

Image

The new alternator is larger than the SR one that my oil relocation hoses were rubbing against it.
Image

I ended up getting a clear hose and ziptied it to the hose where it was rubbing.
Image

Next thing I did was to get a bright light in the cabin. Picked up a Raybrig LED light when I went to the Autobacs in Japan. Pic of it installed. It is fricken bright.
Image

Image

Image

I had to fix one of the radiator fans as one went bad. Since I didn't have the pigtails for it, I decided to get some 4-pin 12AWG connectors that I can use so I don't need to solder in the future.
Image

Just my luck, after replacing the broken one, I burned the existing working one due to the power steering hose prevent it from spinning. I ended up picking up a new radiator fan assembly and will be putting both of them in later this week.
Image

Ordered some other rear z32 brake parts (new e-brake shoes, hardware) and will put them in when they come in.

By the mean time, a pic of the car washed
Image

Will finish these up this weekend.

Since I can't bring those wheels that I bought in Japan in Jan (wife had my inlaws sell it :( ), A friend of mine was nice enough to hand me some rims knowing that I had a 5-lug conversion waiting to go in when I get a set of rims to use.

Even brought it back with him from a recent trip back home in cali.

Image

They're the 19s off a G35, I think they might be too big for my taste. But since it was given to me, I might try to get them on and see if I like them.

I got my 750cc injectors in. O-ring is missing on one, as I broke it trying to fit it in the rail :fonix:
Image

I decided to not use them until I upgrade the turbo. A set of 550cc ones are on the way since my tune is currently with 550cc injectors.

Other things that came in waiting to be installed: (pics to come)
Circuit Sports Z32 Rear Rotors
z32 e-brake hardware
R33 e-brake lines
Lug nuts for the rims (can't use the existing ones)

Things on the way:
OEM S14 zenki lip
Bosch EV14 550cc Top-feed Injectors
Mishimoto Thermostat (will put it in when I flush the rad later)

I wanted to be able to wash my windshield without having to carry a spray bottle :icon_rolleyes:
So I got a new washer pump, and fixed the existing bottle (leaked right after I took a turn; plastic epoxy glue cracked) using flexseal. That thing actually worked like on tv. Good thing it's black, as my spraying skills are lacking to say the least....
Image

Image

When I go to try it out, the nozzles are clogged and shoot like at the bottom of the windshield. Looks like I need to clean it out, or buy new nozzles.:gaah:
More to come, hopefully this weekend.

Funny that I mentioned that I ordered some 550cc injectors. They came in today.
Image

Image

These are the Bosch EV14 550cc top-feeds. Came with Top hat adapters and Power adapters. Although, I can't use those adapters as it is the wrong one. I'll use the other adapters that came with my 750cc's.

The o-rings on the top hats were too big. So I changed them for a different set that fits.

Drag Blue Spine Drive Lug Nut Kit

So I left work early today (will be working the next two weeks straight; no days off starting monday), and removed the center caps from the g35 rims (to trade). While I was doing that, I thought to swap one of the hubs to the 5-lug hobs to see how it'll look.

Took out the hub, and this happens :eek:mg:
Image

Image

I quickly decided to put it back nicely (didn't want to break it right now), and do the other side instead.

Tire on
Image

And on the ground (yes tire needs more air). I also, didn't raise/lower the height yet. Looking like I might need to get a lower profile tire (currently 225/40/19 on the fronts; looking at 35 series)

Thank you sir!

I'm trying to get it done on a Sunday so everyone is off.
No set date yet.
Sweet. Let me know. I'm off on 6 & 13 May.

BTW, thinking I should change my thread title. I'm pretty much started a while ago now lol. Maybe something like "Monkichi57's S14 Fun DD Build"?

Done ;)

I have to get me that quest alt....and lol at the stuck bearing race on the front wheel. Same exact thing happened to me. Took about an hour on each side to heat it up with a HomeDepot-spec torch and a flat head screwdriver and a hammer :gaah:

annnnd i belive i used the exact same lube. Looks like M1 synthetic? I used it at first, then i switched it out for some other high-temp lube (some pepboys brand...forgot the exact one) that would hold up better. M1 synthetic tends to break down pretty fast.

Wait until you do the rears (if you havent done so already). Those are a PITA. But once you get the 4 bolts that hold the hub to the axle off, pull the entire assembly (hub+Axle housing+brake shield + LCA) out and press out the hub. Trust me. Me and my buddies spent 3 fucking hours trying to hammer the hub out of the axle housing and we werent even close. Even the press had a hard time lmao.

You gotta do the quest alternator. Got the 125amp version. It runs A LOT smoother now. Didn't help I am using a small battery... lol

Just make sure you get a 4-rib belt. Didn't pay too much attention to that and had installed the 5-ribbed that I had previously. Squealed like a MOFO. lol Just use the back 4 ribs on the alternator and the front 4 on the water pump/crank pulley, and you're good to go.

I did the front hubs just to see how those g35 rims look. Was skeptical on the size of, but after installing one, I think I'll keep them. Need larger rotors to fill the gap :icon_rolleyes:

As for the rears, It looks like a PITA, but i'm waiting until I have a full day to work on them. Want to put the z32 e-brakes too. From what I was reading, it helps a lot with a gear/hub puller. Hopefully soon.
