So I recently purchased a 95 240sx with a ka24de motor. That was leaking oil from few places like the head gasket, front oil seal and oil filter bracket gashet. It wasn’t bad until I noticed a big oil puddle under the car after I got out of classes. So I decided to replace all the gaskets all at once. After I got the engine put back together. I started her up and she ran for 5 seconds, bogging down and died:mad:. I did it couple more times same thing, but If I held down the gas pedal 3k rpm runs unit I take my foot off the pedal. I also noticed that I was running only two cylinders (3,4) by touching the exhaust header
Here are the things I have tested, checked and replaced
1. I have checked the all my fuel injectors by watching them spray and clicking sound form each injector
2. New pre-gapped spark plugs
3. New spark plug wires
4. New distributor cap
5. I rechecked my engines lower and upper timing
6. Rechecked distributor timing
7. Tested the compression at 130,140,135,130
I also found a guy that had the same problem in a different forum. The problem was a bad distributor. How would I check if it’s going out?
Also my spark plugs are black and wet with gas.
I don’t know if this would help, but my rpm gauges jump’s between 3k to 4k rpms
One more thing my obd2 scanner is not able to put up codes or turn on. So I would have to test it with a voltmeter.
Thank you for looking at my long @ss post. Sorry about that

If your scanner cant get codes, your scanner or the ecu is fucked up
Touching the manifold is not a legit way to tell if the cylinders are active, but ill take your word for it
If they are wet with gas, there is no spark. Im not totally familiar with the OBD2 ka's, so i cant tell you what steps to take, but if it does have a cap and rotor, you need to check those. simple metal parts spinning to conduct electricity. look at them, and if they look shitty, replace

The cap is brand new and I also looked at the rotor. It does not have any corrosion inside and out

Dude there is no way its running on 2 cylinders. Car would not start. From what you said it sounds like you got a bad fuel pressure reg. or something to do with fuel delivery. Also I'm not sure, but I think odb scanner will not work. I know with the z you gotta use consult

Please explain why it's not able to run on 2 cylinders

My car has a similar problem but it idles rough until about 4k rms then when it starts boosting it pulls hard on all four.

Any ideas?
Ive seen on couples forums that had the same problem you have. It was mostly likely you have a vacuum leak or you idle is off. But you should not take my word for it and is your car a turbo ka

wrong a car will run on 2 cylinders..specially a 4 cylinder..but it will run like hell..check ur plugs, make sure u didnt crack any of um when u put um in, a tiny hair line crack is all it takes..specially if you just dropped um down in the holes..let me know, far as no communication, check you fuses, and also try connecting with a scantool that has a nissan 2 adapter, like a solus pro, the connector is located in the driver kick panel in the fuse box

Does your vehicle have the code reporter in the passenger side kick panel? My 95 does, and does the blinking lights to say which code it is. Or is that the difference between OBD I and II?

thats obd1, ob2 dont use blinking lights, but even in my 96 i have a nissan 2 connector and a obd2 connector, you have to use the nissan 2 adapter for detailed ACCURATE information..it does vary from the data from the obd2 connecter

Update everyone, So I found out what was causing my motor to run on two cylinders. It was two faulty injectors. So I replaced my faulty injector with new ones to find out I have a another problem. Now the car runs on all four cylinders, but it still bogs down and dies

Warning never check your your injectors by watching them spray or clicking sound. Just get your self a nice voltmeter to check the ohms resistances. It would save you some time

not that im aware of, you would have to go to a mechanic shop, nissan 2 adapter is the adapter used with snap on scanners, also try running it without the MAF, and throttle position sensor unplugged 1 at a time, see if it stops bogging down
Well I took the car to a local nissan dealership. They could not figure out what was wrong with it. It had something to do with the parts are not oem and there was alot of power spikes on alot of components. I will check those two out when I get back home for winter break.

Sounds like a bad ECM (ECU). If the plugs are not corroded and the injectors are new/functioning but no fuel is being given out to those cylinders, then there is no injector pulse coming from the ECM.

Test out the plugs and see if they are getting pulse, from the ECM, by hooking up a two-pin light connector and crank the car a couple times. If the bulb flashes then the ECM is sending out a pulse. If its a solid light or no light is present, then check your wires for continuity or high resistance or swap out your ECM with a known good one and your problem will be solved.
