 guys I'm new to the 240 game so i appreciate your help. So im in the process of buying my friends 89 240sx fast back. The car has the ka24e with 140k on it. The question is should i get an Sr20de non turbo swapped for $700 or should i just get a ka24de? I don't have the cash to do the sr20det + gas prices are killer right now. I'm planing of having this car as my DD, but of course I want to have some fun ;). What are the best options for me? Any sort of information helps guys Thx:feedback:

THE Dilemma

Okay let me get into more details, Right now i currently have a 1991 240sx Auto My family has had this car since 93', but it is salvaged tittle. I was planning on getting the 5 speed conversion since the auto one is slipping for about $1200. My friend is selling me his 1989 single cam (5speed) clean tittle for 1500 the only thing wrong with it is the spark plugs so he says and its a $250 job. I found an sr20de online which the guy said he will sell and install in my car for 700 and i thought to my self dang thats a steal so that's y i'm considering that swap.

I'm getting $650 from insurance money from UPS since they backed into me ( 91 240sx) in 6days. Also my friend is willing to pay me 1100 for my 91 240sx and i truly doubt i can get more for it because it has so many problems. And I have $1000 saved + $500 coming in from taxes. So in total if i sell my 240 i will have $3250 to spend in a new car.

So these Are my options:

Option 1
So I was planning on getting my friends 89' SE 240sx ka24e for 1500 and doing the sr20de swap for 700 and bomb i have a new 240 with a sr, but i keep reading on the forms that it wouldn't be worth it at all. The sr20de has less torque and hp compare to the ka, And Im trying to gain power not lose it. If i do this I will have spend $2200 and have $1050 left over for who knows what.

Option 2

I Get my friends 89' 240 for 1500 and swap my ka24de from my current 91 240sx which my dad just got swapped in for $1300 2 years ago. This was my original option, but if i do it this way I kind lose $1000 since i Don't get to sell it. So I would be paying $1500 for the car and $600 in labor to take of both engines and just instal ka24de. So I would be spending 2100 and only have $50 left over and ka24e and a 1991 240sx le salvage shell left over.

Option 3
I buy my friends 240 for $1500 and get a fresh ka24de from Purchase Your Engine From 123Engine.com for $1300 and idk how much for labor lets say ($650) and idk if they would need a new hardness because it will be going SOCH to DOCH. If i take this route I will be spending $3450 for a 89 240sx with a freshly new ka24de with 0 miles and 3 year warranty but i will be spending all my money + and additional $200.

Option 4
Is just buying my friends 1989 240sx with a ka24e for 1500 fixing its problem for $250 and have $1550 left, ive been looking at what i can do so i can get more hp like building it up but idk if its worth it in-case i do try to resale it. I actually don't mind going turbo on it, ive been looking on the forms what exactly i need to do to have a reliable DD turbo car and how much would it run me or even an all motor engine. ive been looking for guides, but theirs so much info here i can really decide what to do.

Option 5
Just keep my 91 240sx fastback and switch it to 5 speed and fix all the other problems with it, with the rest of the money which was my original plan but the car is salvage tittle the only thing it does have is the ka24de.

I know this was Long and im sorry for that, but this is my situation and i appreciate all the help and input I can get guys Ty for your time!!

I don't want to go turbo just for the fact that cops will be pulling me over right and left. I dont mind spending the money on the sr, but i just never heard of one non turbo, and ive been reading that they aren't as powerful as the ka24de.

I forgot to mention that i also have a 91 fast back ka24de auto tho, i was planing on swapping that engine for the other one. but if i do that im out of 1500 because i was just planning on selling the car for 1500. Im looking at some of the ka24e builds, but im not sure if its worth it (for resale value) since the DE is more desirable.

It doesn't seem worth it dude

I'm assuming you have the $700 for the sr and you would just get $1500 from the 91. Why not just auto -> manual swap the 91 and sell the 89? You can prolly pull off 1000-1500 for the 89 maybe more. We need more details. If I were you I'd just sell one and save the 2200 and do other things with the 240 like keep it running. Or buy an old corolla or something that gets good mpg and go all out on the 240 as money comes

Ok one thing I'm going to tell you right now is to STOP BEFORE you make any purchases/transactions.
Yeah I haven't done anything yet, I have so much in my head that I don't know that's y I posted and hopefully I can get some advice and wisdom I don't want to make a dumb investment ( even tho you never get back what u put in a car lol)

Curious questions

1. Why would the cops pull you over if you turbo your ka?
2. A turbo KA is no different then having a turbo SR...

I would turbo the KA and never look back... You will love the torque and powerband it has...

I wasn't really thinking on turbocharging the Ka until i started reading up on it. Around here Cops look for 240 with swaps so thats y i wasnt really down with the sr20det plus i heard u get 10miles a gallon. I gave my mom my 2007 avalanche to my mom because the gas was ridiculous, I want some speed with decent gas millage. I don'T want to be supporting the oil companies lol

so you think turbo the ka24e is my best option??

dude ka-t gets about 27mpg with a good tune and your not slamming the gas petal down. sell the 91 get the 89 and turbo it, you can make it look stock even if a cop wants to see under the hood.

Not even sure where to start on this...

First off, RWD SR20DEs make the same power as the KADE, but have less torque. So, this gives you a situation. Do you stick with a KADE that is more torquey and will whip a SR off the line, or do you go with the SR because it has a better rev range? IMO, it's not worth swapping a NA SR, you gain little over a KADE.

10 MPG? You need to find better sources. I had a pretty decently modified SR20DET, and the only time it ever saw MPG that low was on my Saturday evening cruise/race sessions. The reason those guys get crappy MPG is because of their right foot.

Having a turbo car won't get you pulled over. Driving like a jackass, with your hat cocked sideways, while driving a turbo car, this will get you pulled over. Keep everything on the low, and you'll be okay. Don't give the cops a reason to pull you over, and they won't. Plumb the BOV back into the intake, and run a quiet exhaust and no one would be the wiser.

So in your opinion whats my best choice. Im just saying that a sr20det getsabout 10mpg because my friend is boost happy and fills up $60 every 3 days.I have the money to do all my options but witch one is the best one??

If i where to go turbo on the single cam what exACTLY would i need to to. I see the forms with these guys just getting mods but if i want to go turbo i want it to be reliable and not just blow up on me 1yr later. Thx for the advice tho i appreciate it. I have till next Thursday to make my dices ion

The sr20det does not get 10mpg. I drove mine to summer IA last year with a s15 t28 on 13lbs and got 35 mpg. I used less than a tank of gas for the whole trip.
Are you serious, dude im wasting a quarter tank every time I drive im my stock ka24de right now, the manic said it just might be because my transmission is slipping.

Ok few things

-Why the hell are you spending 1200 on a 5 speed conversion? is that parts and labor? Learn to do it yourself it is easy on an s13.
-Your friends 89 that only needs sparkplugs and its a $250 job? Are you drunk? Sparkplugs are like 20-$30 and all you need is a spark plug socket, extension, ratchet and a torque wrench if you wanna do it right. That seems shady too. I would go buy spark plugs, go change your friends sparkplugs and see what the hell is really going on.
-What website do you see that the guy will install a sr for $700? How do you know if its not a trashed motor? Just post the link itll be quicker than explaining it to me
-are you sure that 123 engine website is reputable? They also have sohc ka's for 1195

Go from there

Okay 1200 for parts and labor from a guy on Craigslist, shops where charging me a lot more! and for the engine it was also from Craigslist, I went to pick up a fresh uncracked dash for $100 and door panels both for $30 and he was telling me if i want the swap since hes going RB and RHD. I heard of that site some where on these forms and i like the whole idea of a 3yr warranty. Yeah i saw that the DE is only $100 more so i would just rather get that one. All in all I wasnt sure if i should fix my car since it does have a salvage tittle. I don't know exactly whats wrong with the other car just the spark-plugs, and i think they have to retread them.
