how would I have a reference point if it was at TDC? All that is needed to be done is to remove VC, upper chain cover, distributor, and guides. I dont see how those have anything to do with timing. If it isn't necessary to be set at TDC when removing a distributor then I have no idea.. does anyone else have any idea why?:WTF:

Ok just tear it apart then. The idea of having it all at TDC makes it easier to put back together. If you have to turn something while it's apart. You can go ahead and tear it apart instead of taking 5sec to set it at TDC just don't come crying when it don't start cuz you have some off and miss aligned.

i didnt mean to tick you off.. im just looking for a solid answer to my question so that I can better understand what goes on during this process. Ill assume it has something to do with the distributor tho.

Anyway, i set to TDC then performed surgery removing both guids. Both guids had some decent wear. The chain had slack. It took some force to push the tensioner in a millimeter or two and it didnt pop back out. I know it operates on oil pressure so i guess this is normal? Do i just need to WD-40 it till it takes little effort to move back and forth or what? anyone?

Oh you didn't piss me off. I'm just saying it make everything easier in the long run.
Anyway the tensioner is gonna be tight and yeah it does work from oil PSI. If you think it's to tight WD-40 ain't gonna hurt it.
