Hey, im new to the forum and was wondering if anybody could share there advice with me?

here's a little about myself: im 17 and ever since i could remember i was into cars, more specifically Japanese and euro cars. I love them, the way they look, the way they sound and i love seeing what people can do with them. So this summer i want to be productive...no fucking around or doing stupid shit instead i plan on getting a job and getting enough money to buy a 240sx, i want to work on it day and night till my hands hurt, make it resemble who i am and show others what i can do. i have some mechanical knowledge and plan on doing everything i can to achieve this goal, even if it means working my ass off and dropping alot of money into it. In the end of all this i plan on learning how to drift and having a fresh ride.

A big question i have though is, can you have a daily driver and drift at the same time? im sure you can but is it wise?

P.S. i want mine to look similar to one like this

First off what's up with the name? Next it's never wise to race drift whatever with your daily driver. It can be done but isn't wise. What if you blow you motor hit the wall damage anything? How are you going to make it to work while you wait for parts and fix your car? Next you look at cars and it makes a great idea but you'll soon find yourself changing your mind and going all sorts of ways with your build. I can't tell you how many times mine has changed over the years.

Haha this is the name i use on xbox live idk why i picked it for the forums, on online games i just thought it was always funny if someone got killed by some guy named buttcleavage, so i stuck with it. Thanks for commenting, and i will follow your advice. I have a 2001 5spd toyota tacoma that i will use as my daily driver.

also i wanted to know if there is anything i need to look for when buying a 240sxs? ive been told that i should always check for rust on the bottom because these cars are prone to it.

first off your way over your head

second your car will never ever look like that unless you plan on getting a job that will make you 12k in a couple months

3rd your question is dumb and you need to think alittle harder before asking anything else

4th once mom and dad cut you off and stop supporting you like a child you will really find out what building a car is

alright well you dont even know me, im not a bullshitter...if i say im going to do somthing then im going to do it.

im getting a job: there's no down side to that
Im buying a car: there's no down side to that
im going to be putting my money in said car: nothin wrong with that

so how am i way over my head...?

and i know my car will never look like that, i wish i could build a car as clean as that one, i just meant i liked the look and wanted something a little similar.

sorry my question wasn't smart enough for you...

and lastly of course i cant depend on my dad forever (my mom has passed) when i turn 18 i have to focus on college and my future...this is just something i always wanted to do and i want something new in my life

if youre trying to get into drifting, be prepare to spend an endless amount of money. Drifting is NOT CHEAP!!! Parts, tires, event fees, unexpected failures or crashes, towing in event of a crash, safety equipment (eg. helmet; not necessary but eventually a seat, harness, and harness bar if youre going this route), and etc all add up to thousands upon thousands of dollars. If you want to drift, you need to be committed; if not, you're setting yourself up for failure.

'if you're serious or toying the idea, look into this following link to help you gather some info on what parts are needed to start drifting; it's very basic and straightforward and leaves all the unnecessary b/s out of it. These guys know what they are talking about and have run numerous events for the last 10 years in NJ:

ALL THOSE NEW TO DRIFTING OR RELATIVELY NEW, CAR GUIDELINES!

and to answer your question, yes you can track it and daily drive it if you want to. EVERYONE who started out in grassroots drifting has done so, if not, they are either lying to you or have ALOT of money for a truck and trailor. But as everyone knows, you always have a chance of crashing!!!! If you are not ready to face or anticipate a crash, then I suggest you not to even start drifting at all. You need to accept the possibility of crashing in drifting, otherwise you will be in for a really really really big sh*tty surprise. But besides that and money, it's a freakin' blast!!!!

Good luck to ya!! and hope this helps!

That's a good place to start, it looks like basic model with no sunroof, so you don't have to worry about the drains keeping the boxed quarters wet and rusting. Say, do you have any more pics of that first 240 that's on your Mobile Uploads / facebook? That's got real decent look, and I could use some inspiration myself!

Guys calm down he just has the "NeW 240 fEVEr"

You want/buy a 240 and you want to buy every goddamn part for it. Listen, here's a good idea of how things might work out for you.

You get a job, make minimum wage and work your ass off all summer. Assuming you have no bills and shit, you might have 1-2 grand by August. I'm being generous with this number. Shit is a lot harder than you think.

Also, what rush are you in? The best advice I can give you is to

Save your money; as soon as you get paid give the money to your parents (if you can trust them with your money ie they're not crakheads etc)

Don't ask why, just do these things until you're fever passes over.
you will understand as you mature.

Do not race your car, EVER. you don't have money to fix shit.

Save up and buy your own car. That's one way of showing your parents you are responsible and it will look good and you will feel much more proud of your car.

And also don't buy useless shit with your hard earned money. Just gas and maintenance shit. Even if you think you are getting a steal of a deal don't listen to anyone. Keep your money safe. I saved up almost 2500 and I did some dumb shit so learn from my mistake.

I looked all over for more pictures of that 240, i cant find anything. I saw this car on the street once i think the owner lives in Avon, CT. Its a sick ride

Thanks for looking! I have a hatch --> '93 and it seems now that I've had it a few years, I'm wishing I had a coupe, until I see one like that, that's some sick flushness, too. Anyhoo, I track day mine, but it's only twice a year at least these last two years. BTW, I'm married and have our own place in the country with 40 acres, so gotta a steep mortgage, but, I still find ways to save and make my car better, yet it's not my daily driver, so if it's down for awhile it's ok as it sits in a shed along with about 3 other projects. It's hard when you're starting out, but once you get the car, you don't have to go drifting right away. I recommend using it as your daily and slowly add to the car as you can afford it, yet while saving a few bucks and reading and learning all you can about your car and drifting in the mean time. Sorry to hear about your Mom.
