hey
my names Brain, im new to the forum and looking to get a 240 :)

im 19 and in LA CA i've been looking around for a new car, currently driving an 86 Thunderbird, and at first i was thinking of going with a accord or a Acura Legend but not really into FWD and i've always wanted a nice 240sx hatchback

what i want to know tho is what kind of things to watch out for when shopping around for on what kind of things am i most likely to see maintenance wise what kind of mileage can you realistically get out of them what would be the best year to look for and lastly the difrences between the s13 and s14

thanks Brian

Learn how to drive a 5-speed then buy a 240 with a 5-speed. You'll regret it if you buy an auto. It's not hard to learn at all. Heck, if I still lived in Southern Cali, I would teach you how to drive it.

Dude, your average hatchback is 20 or more yrs old... What maintenance issues AREN'T there may be a more easy answer lol. Besides having an RWD car, what are you looking to do?

@ RikRong: thanks for the offer but if i have a stick i want it to be just a toy this is guna be my DD and yea stick isnt that hard i used to ride quads so shifting threw gears and all that isn't that foreign for me just never had the chance to sit behind the wheel of a stick

@ Mikester: i was thinking more twards like them being pron to blown head gaskets and things of that nature lol and yea a 20 plus car isnt guna be perfect i should know with my 86

is there a certain year of the s13's that is better?

Riding a quad with gears is not the same thing, and not having a 5-speed 240sx defeats the whole purpose of having one.
If you want a DD best to go with an S14 because they're easy to maintain, more space to actually fit people in there, and they can look sexy. Just my opinion.

I will agree a 14 would potentially be cheaper on initial maintenance and parts will be easier to find, however autos are just fine. Bring a friend that can drive stick, learn on their car or have them show you on your 240.

My car started auto, it doesn't defeat any purpose. Was nice after sitting in traffic and clutching a few hundred times a day... Car still handles and pulls the exact same way. You think a GTR owner thinks his auto defeats the purpose? ;)
