This will begin the story of Kallen, my redhead.

(Or she will be once I paint her.)

2 years ago, I purchased her body for $500. Thus began my project to bring her to life.

But not a single crack or tear in the dash!

A few months later, I picked up her heart for $450. A nice 5spd transmission and a KA24DE.

End Chapter 1

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last week, thanks to a friend who allowed me use of his tools and shop, I was able to tear her heart apart. Seems like my gamble wasn't a bad one. It was in pretty good shape.

Prepped for tear down!

Head off and looking good so far.

Time for the bottom end. Some scuffing on the cylinder walls, pistons, and bearings.

240SX Engine - Imgur

More pics tomorrow of the bearings and cylinder walls if I can pull the block out of the plastic container.

For now, the goal is an overhaul on the engine to make her reliable for DD.

Machine Work:

"Hone Cylinders.
ARP Head and Main Studs if your going for Mid Power Goals
- Head and Block should be Decked/Resurfaced
- Mains should be Line Bored/Hone if your gonna use ARP Studs."
(as suggested by Scoot)

Also a valve job.

Parts:

Timing chain kit
OSK 13028-53F02 KA24DE DOHC Timing Chain Kit 1991-1998 Nissan 240SX

Head and main stufs
ARP 10533 Custom KA24DE Hardended 12 pt Engine Main Studs Set
ARP 202-4304 Engine Head Studs Kit Nissan KA24DE

Gasket kit
Nissan Genuine OEM Complete Engine Gasket Kit (Set) S13 KA24DE

Bearings
Clevite CB-1589P Rod Bearing Set Nissan KA24DE

or

ACL 4B2746 Duraglide Rod Bearing Set Nissan KA24E/KA24DE
ACL 5M2747 Duraglide Main Bearing Set Nissan KA24DE

I'm still undecided what to do about pistons. Looking at CP Pistons SC7299 Nissan KA24DE w/Turbo 89.0mm/9:1. Suggestions welcome.

what kind of paint are you gonna use? please no duplicolor or macco
I honestly don't know yet. I spent quite a bit of time looking for what colors but ultimately I haven't found exactly what I wanted. My mom works for a star coach company and both the painters and upholsterers are very talented so, most likely, I will take pictures of the colors I want and have them help me decide what kind to use. I need to ask BoostinIX as well. His paint seems to be very well done and looks good.

Any suggestions yourself?

go dupont all day!!! if you need help deciding on what you should do i can help. their are tons of paint brands and kinds of paint you can do.. if you want show quality go with glasurit all day. but daily driver i would go dupont with 7900 s clear and dupont "chroma base" base. and if you plan to drift it i would do centari single stage which it cheap and doesnt look to bad at all

You have a better chance on zilvia. For some things it's best just to buy new or have rebuilt such as an oil pump or alternator.

It really is just better just to get new internals, for peace of mind.

Trust me, just get the stuff that costs a little more and is new.

Yeah I guess I stated that wrong. I'm looking for people selling new/unused parts. Like one guy is offering the ARP studs brand new for $85. I'm not putting anything used into the engine that didn't come in it already. The crank and rods are staying. But new pistons for sure.

At first I thought it would be more expensive to bore but prices look the same so I have been considering it.
I fully support this idea and look forward to hearing when it's been done!!

Also, any plans on a turbo down the road? ;) even a daily driver has to be some kind of fun!

And yes Collegekid, this forum needs more s14.5!! Boost and I can't be the only ones!!

Personally, I think this forum needs more S13.5

Get out of my thread with your nonsense! lol

Right now it's going to depend on what size pistons I find for the right price. If I end up having to order them from online, then I will have it bored to an 89.5mm. Later on, I will build an engine on the side. It will most likely be an SR20DET. I may or may not put a low boost setup on the KA24DE at some point. It will likely depend on how long the SR takes to put together. If it takes too long, then I will boost this KA. I have also considered a N/A built KA but I can't really justify how expensive it is to get around 250rwhp out of it.

Here's some red for you Feriation.
