what exactly does it mean to sleeve/instal sleeves in an engine ? I read somewhere about how the sr can be streanthened with sleeves, but I really don't kno what these are. Sorry if this is a noob question, but I couldnt find anything through searching.

www.howthingswork.com click engines (no joke)

Basically strengthening cylinder walls by installing 'sleeves'...its not a bolt on modification, its something a machine shop would have to do, and only necessary if your building your motor, and plan on running 400+hp...make sure your machine shop has a SR20DET Tourqe Plate ;)

read that for some more information.

depends.
sleeving an engine allows for a stronger cylinder wall.
are you planning to make insane hp with that engine?
if you are it might be worth looking into but for most ppl the stock sr will do fine.

is it accualy worth the money to sleeve an sr ?
Stock block/cylinder walls will only hold a certain amount.

When you start to produce 'real' amounts of HP, you block will let go, so you have to take protective measures...ie. Sleeving block.

Can u make 500hp on stock block? Yes. How long will it last? Depends on tuning, setup, and still then, you cant really be sure.

would it be worth it just to sleeve a stock sr?
just to make it even more bullet proof

DO they have wet sleeves for SR's? I know most are dry sleeves (Darton) where, basically it is just a sleeve, the wet sleeves allow for coolant to run between the sleeve and the actually cylinder wall. I know they run these on diesels, seem to be very efficient since Diesels produce so much heat.
